Why Early Access?

“We have chosen to release into Early Access as we wish to involve the community in the continuing development process of the game. We hope that the community will provide useful feedback on how to improve many aspects of the game ranging from the balancing of the various in game items, to suggesting new content.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Megaton: Total Destruction will be in Early Access for approximately 3-4 months from the initial release date. During this time, more content and performance improvements will be added to the game to meet your needs as the players, and our vision as the developers.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“In the full version of Megaton: Total Destruction, the players will have access to 8 unique projectile types to choose from. These will be split into 4 standard projectiles, and 4 pick-up based projectiles and will be unlocked via money the player earns by completing levels.

The game will feature additional levels on release to the ones currently in the game, featuring new locations, building styles, and layouts.

We are also looking forward to building a community to hear about features that they envision being a part of this game. We have several features we would like to include on release as well, such as a build-a-bomb workshop where players can go as wild as they like with their explosive creations and share them over the Steam Workshop.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

Please be aware that this game is in early access as it is an unfinished game. That means that there are bound to be several bugs and performance issues. We recommend before buying trying the free demo of our alpha build.

In this version of the game, we have implemented 6 of the 8 initial projectiles which will be featured in the game, the final 2 are currently being updated to ensure that they work correctly before being released.

The game features a single level, and a tutorial for players to experience, but we are actively working to create more levels on a regular basis. The first of which, will be added to the game for release.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“On release of the full game, we plan to increase the price of the game, to full reflect the amount of content and features which will be added. The price will not change during its time in Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan on involving the community through a number of ways including
  • Actively listening to feedback for the level and projectile balancing.
  • Including in the community in events to suggest new projectile and level designs

What's next? Development Roadmap

Hi everyone,

I am Jamie and I'm the Gameplay Designer and Developer at TotalDistraction, meaning that I am responsible for the gameplay mechanics within the game.

Overview
To continue the development of the game, we are going to address many of the areas which some of you may feel are lacking in the current version of the game including; the map pool, sound design, UI elements, and some of the artwork in-game. While most of the gameplay mechanics we want to include in the final version of the game are present, we welcome comments and critism to help make the game the best version possible.

Map Pool
Throughout the game's lifetime in Early Access, we are going to continue adding new levels to the game. In total we plan to have 15 levels spread across 5 distinct regions around the world ranging from the bustling cities of Northern America and Asia, to the quiet small villages in the tropics and the Middle East.

There are plans to add level selection to the progression of the game so that the player must unlock regions with the cash that they have earned by destroying as much as they can!

We are finally planning to hold map design competitions to include the community to allow for players to have their map featured in the final game.

Sound Design
All of the in-game sounds are subject to change at the point in development. As there are some sounds missing from objects and environments, these will be added in once they have been created to help create immersion and emphasise the destruction on-screen.

UI and 3D Artwork
As we are an Early Access game, much of the artwork is likely to be updated througout development. Much of the menu UI will most likely change as more levels, and projectiles are added to the game, and gameplay UI will continue to evolve based on feedback from our players.

New levels may also feature various stages of artwork development, depending on the release state of the level. We plan to include feedback right from the start of the levels, so the artwork in these levels will be basic to begin with, but they will be quickly replaced by improved artwork once testing has been completed.

We are looking forward to recieving feedback on the current and future versions of the game and we hope that you will stick with us throughout the development process!

Early Access Initial Release

Hello everyone,

Our initial version is now available in Early Access! We have a level and seven of the eight projectile types available to play with.

Known issues include:
  • The anti-gravity projectile is not unlockable - it still needs work before we are happy with it;
  • Some UI inconsistencies - mainly in the tutorial;
  • The mouse sensitivity by default is very high - this can be adjusted in the settings.

We will be releasing updates regularly to introduce new features and content. In the near future, we are planning to have:
  • Another, larger level called Hudson City;
  • The anti-gravity projectile working as we want and included in the game;
  • General bug fixes.

About This Game

Megaton: Total Destruction is a fast and explosive Artillery game where you have to demolish abandoned cities around the world! Earn money from each demolished city to unlock and use varying bombs; from standard High Explosive projectiles to exotic Science-Fiction inspired Singularity projectiles to bring down the cities around you. Each level is designed to give the player a unique experience through the visual style and layout of the cities, as well as hiding secrets around them to boost your destructive capabilities!

The games current features include:

  • 8 Distinct Projectile Types (including Nukes and Singularity Projectiles)
  • Projectile Progression System
  • Building Fracturing
  • Aftershock mode allows you to vaporise the last remains of the city
