What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Xenomarine is already a game with high replayability due to its infinite, randomly-generated levels, 80 alien species and hundreds of weapons, armor and other equipment. But through Early Access, the game will see continuous further improvements and much more content that will make it the rich, complex and demanding game I know it can be.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“This is a long term project and I expect to keep adding new features and content until this is the best game it can possibly be. However I currently expect to release Version 1.0 during 2018.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The main difference between the Full Version and Early Access will be more in-game content: new weapons, armor, and items with unique abilities; many new alien species; and new map features, missions and other game features. Although the Early Access already features an infinite number of levels, as development progresses there will be ever-greater variety in the later levels. (NB because of these limitations in content, the current Early Access may start to feel a little repetitive after around level 15; by contrast the full game should sustain interest and variety for as far as you are willing to go!)”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Xenomarine has been in development since early 2015 and is largely stable and very much a playable game. As mentioned the Early Access version features infinite levels, 80 alien species and hundreds of weapons, armor and items with unique abilities. Xenomarine is available for PC, Mac and Linux and is designed to suit keyboard-only, mouse-only and mixed controller preferences.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“There will be no significant price difference, however the final game price may be a little higher than in Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Xenomarine’s development has been very much influenced by the roguelike community, particularly on Reddit. There has also been regular community engagement on Twitter . I’m always on the look out for feedback to help shape development of the game, and would value your comments on Twitter, the development blog or the Xenomarine subreddit.”

About This Game

XENOMARINE is a dark, atmospheric, sci-fi/horror themed roguelike in which you play a space marine exploring an alien-infested space station. Starting out with little more than a crowbar, you will fight to survive against over 80 increasingly powerful alien species, as you progress as far as you can through infinite randomly generated levels.

With no starting classes, develop your character into the ultimate fighting machine by means of in-game choices: create a unique build each time you play by finding and choosing between a large and distinctive range of unique usable items and individually upgradable weapons and armor. And although the focus in Xenomarine is on items rather than skills, there are also 70 skill levels to be learned you gain experience from combat and from randomly generated missions.

WARNING: This game is unforgivingly hard: expect to die soon and often when first starting out! Also, in the default 'roguelike' game mode, death is permanent - meaning you will have to start again from level 1. But don’t worry: each playthrough will be different because so many parts of the game are randomly generated (in a way that’s carefully fine-tuned for balance).

PLEASE NOTE that due to the limited content in the current Early Access version, the game may start to feel a little repetitive, especially after level 15 or so. There will be much more content as development proceeds, making each playthrough more and more unique.
