What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“While HammerHelm is in a very playable state, it is not "finished" and contains placeholder assets. During early access, I plan to add many new features, replace some of the placeholder art, add character customization and build a lot more quests and content. While the core mechanics and gameplay are in place, the game needs more content (mostly quests) especially at the mid to high levels of the game. Also, while there are tons of things I want to add to the game, I'd like to get feedback from the community regarding what you like about the game and where you'd like to see it go from here!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Six months to a year.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of HammerHelm will have far more quests and more buildings for your town. It will also include lots more features, such as a player house, full character customization, and travel, just to name a few. Your feedback will also greatly influence the direction HammerHelm takes. The new features and quests will be added over time while HammerHelm is in Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version of the game is in a playable Alpha state. The core systems are in but not all of the content is available yet. Players can build a town, adventure with their character, interact with townspeople, go on quests, craft and upgrade their equipment, and battle monsters. There is currently a lot to do in the game!”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will increase when HammerHelm leaves early access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I plan on being very active on the forums and taking community feedback to help shape the future of the game. Getting feedback on the kinds of quests and events that you would like to see, new buildings, additional features, etc.”

Big Update Progress

I'm working on the Big Update that I've mentioned a few times and I wanted to show you all some progress.

The new female Dwarves are in the game and there is a new system for choosing Dwarves to join your town and choosing which Dwarf gets assigned which jobs.
Each Dwarf will have traits that determine how good s/he is at certain jobs and activities. Lazy Dwarves work slow, strong Dwarves can carry more resources, meticulous Dwarves will craft better items, and sleepy Dwarves might take a nap while on the job!

Every time you place a home, you'll be presented with three Dwarves and you can choose two of them to join your town.

These features are just a small part of the Big Update, which will include more buildings, more jobs, a totally redesigned town economy (including allowing you to get resources like gold and ore from the town) and a ton more. I'm hoping to write a comprehensive announcement about the Big Update soon. My plan is for the Big Update to bring HammerHelm out of Alpha and into Beta.

Thank you again everyone for supporting HammerHelm!

Oh and the new male Dwarf is almost done too! (don't worry, he will have eyes - and of course, different beards to choose from! :P)

Alpha Build 0.8.12

Alpha Build 0.8.12 includes a bunch of optimizations to the buildings, walls, and towers to help increase performance, especially for larger towns. Visually you shouldn't notice any difference in the structures. The update also has some fixes for lighting related to the stone entrance.

About This Game

The Dwarves of the HammerHelm Clan dream of living above ground, under the sun and clouds. As their Champion, it is up to you to help them establish their home and guide them towards prosperity. But this new land is filled with danger and your town will face many challenges.

Something dangerous is stirring in the storehouse, keeping the workers from delivering their resources. The sewers you built last week to help the town remain clean - goblins have moved in and are using it as a base of operations. The farms have become poisoned and won't yield crops. And the Tavernkeeper has heard rumors of a Necromancer building his tower nearby, plotting to attack the town.

The more your town grows, the more your adventure grows!

  • Build a town from over 20 different structures including houses, armorsmiths, breweries, taverns, carpenters, wells, and more!
  • Attract townspeople to help collect resources, build structures, and work in the shops.
  • Craft weapons, armor, and more at the shops you create.
  • Explore your town and enter every building you place.
  • Manage your town's resources to ensure the citizens are happy, healthy, and safe.
