What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early access is a great way of developing a product while getting constant feedback. Here we are allowed to make radical changes creating a better experience. I believe in constructive criticism and the power of information, and we will be pushing to make a great experience for our players.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We estimated around 4-6 months in Early Access so we can bring the content to the quality level it deserves and have the second level published before we leave Early Access”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The final version will be an episodic game with episodes coming as content updates , so no paid DLCs or anything like that. You are paying for a 6 episode package that will be updated with the episodes as we finish them.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version is in a late alpha build with the fully playable first level. The game mechanics are all in place, but there is still testing to do. Some areas are still fairly empty and there is quite a bit of asset work to be done before it can be considered finished.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan on keeping the pricing constant, there are no plans to increase the price at this point.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Testing and feedback is the most precious thing a developer can get from the community, (well, other than love,) and we take it really seriously. We also want the community to help us decide what themes and environments they want to explore.”

Some complications..

Hi guys!

We had some issues while calculating lighting (which takes ages on my computer anyway) and the engine crashed a lot.
After further investigation an upgrade to Unreal engine 4.17 seems to have sorted the problem!

3 days lost, but we are going forward!

Cheers,
Adam

v0.2.5 update coming and new path for Caelum

Hi guys!

v0.2.5 will be out soon bringing a whole new mechanic for puzzles and a new (hopefully) exciting ending for the first leve.

I have also increased the grab radius on the controller so it's easier to grab stuff.

The Ring Door Puzzle has been tightened up and the lever pops back into place to stop the rotation when you let go.

Collision issues have been fixed where I've found them.

New area with the new mechanic is coming with this update!

As for the future of Caelum:

We are still trying to get a publisher on boart to speed up development by turning it full time. This will immensely increase production speed and hopefully the production value of Caelum!

Originally Caelum was meant to be this story driven exploration experience, but at the minute there is just not enough time to be put into proper lore and story design.

Combat in VR is really fun, and when I added the robot it became clear that we need more of this!

I'm still not set on how I want to do the combat, but exploding potions sond fun to do.

Thanks everyone who supporst us on this journey!

Cheers,
Adam

About This Game

Follow us on Twitter @DigitalRealmsVR and join the conversation!

About the devs:
We are a small team of students/graduates all on the course Games Art and Design at Norwich University of the Arts (UK).

The game was originally a University project that focused on independent development. Even though the original concept was a common baby, the first level and the mechanics had to be produced by me, Adam, as it was my final project.
I graduated from NUA with Caelum's first level, including models and mechanics as the final project. I received Vice-Chancellor's commendation and Caelum has been picked for 'Best of NUA' Exhibition in Norwich(UK).

Ben, my friend from way back, has helped with the initial concept, and now, as his third year University practice joins me in the development of Caelum.

We both have a fair amount of digital art experience behind us and a lot of passion to push us forward! We hope to carry on with quality content that all of you can enjoy!

Please be patient, as this is a part time thing (while it doesn't pay for the rent) for both of us.
