What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access is a great platform for garnering exposure for our game as well as provide us with an avenue to gather feedback from unbiased players and incorporate that feedback into successive builds. Our current team has a group of playtesters, but they are familiar with the game and Early Access would allow us to reach players who have had no prior experience and thus are able to provide more unbiased feedback than someone who had become reasonably familiar with our game. It will also allow us to more properly assess a price for our game, based on perceived quality.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to move out of Early Access in about 4 months, but unforeseen circumstances could prolong this process.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“More content, more difficulties, more polished art and mechanics. This includes various AI difficulty settings ranging from easy to hard, multiple types of game modes (Such as time attack, score x to win, and practice), and possibly bonus game modes if time allows. The AI will be iterated on moving forward, and the whip mechanics refined. As updates roll out to Unreal 4 giving VR support, we plan to implement features as required.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“A feature complete, art-locked build that allows the user to play a full game loop defaulted to “First to 3”, and a single AI difficulty that offers new players a challenge, but returning players a way to raise their skill cap.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The team only feels it fair to allow the user to test our experience at a price we feel is indicative of the content we plan to deliver while in early access. Once the game launches, the price will most likely have a small increase, indicative of the work that has been put in and reflective of the new user experience.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“When major updates are to be rolled out and new features added or changes made, we do plan to inform the community that follows Shadow Circuit, as they have a right to know what their potential investment is going towards.”

A Message from Wetware and Shadow Circuit WIP

Hello!

First and foremost we all want to say that we're super excited to be on Steam Early Access! Being a group of college senior students, we honestly never expected to come to this point; but the opportunity arose and we decided to take it. Please keep in mind that this is a labor of love and for those of you that have played Shadow Circuit we are extremely happy to see any feedback, and bring issues back to the design team. As our first foray into commercial release, there are bound to be missteps, but we are hoping that in time most of these will be addressed and will serve as a learning experience for the future. On behalf of Wetware, thank you all for the support.

----------

The team has been busy at work this past month developing many quality of life updates to Shadow Circuit! There are many things to touch point on, but first we feel it is necessary to address our lack of communication and updates:

Since we've released on Early Access, UE4 has released an update that the team has been interested in implementing; 4.15 offers the Widget Interaction Component, which allows us to more easily integrate a UI into the game. Those of you who have played may have noticed a lack of menu, and it is for this reason. However, along with this engine upgrade (2 versions!!), there were a number of setbacks including FPS loss and a problem with constant collision detection. While we have solved the former, the latter appears to be an issue widespread among developers in UE4 4.15, and has gone on record by Unreal to be addressed in their next update. We are unaware of their roadmap for 4.16, but because of this, until they release a fix Wetware cannot release a functioning build of Shadow Circuit.

With that being said, we hope you understand and bear with us while we resolve this issue. Across the next few patches, the plans for Shadow Circuit include:

  • Updated stage texture - Emissive detailing along the arena
  • Animated Emissive
  • Fixed light bug along capsule spiral lights; now accurately reflects chosen team color
  • Added light fog and dropoff
  • Light animation on game start
  • Baked all exterior/non-interactable lights
  • Changed most geometry to static
  • Work-In-Progress raising FPS from ~45 (initial release) to 90+
  • Creating 'Launch room' complete with game type options at game start
  • Adding 'how to play' splash on back wall of Launch Room
  • Creating simple tutorial stage with dummy AI for practice and familiarity
  • System for swapping team color on goal based on team selection
  • Modifying arena play area size for better AI readability
  • Adding more art to Outer Environment for Quality of Life
  • Updating AI Model/Texture
  • Adding Grab/Miss whip animations
  • Increasing whip grab thresh hold

Here's a glimpse of what all that means (still WIP):

About This Game

Have you ever wanted to compete in an entirely illegal underground sports game operation between three competing companies for the great honor of your tech!? Enter the Shadow Circuit. Doskoi, Hachimau, and Ikaros63 have shareholders in this year’s tournament -- and you are their representative contender. Face off against the amalgamation of the millenia's newest tech, and prove once and for all which company is superior. Utilizing your gravity whips and anti-G suit, compete for victory in a battle of attrition and points in this high-octane sport.

Features:
  • Launch the ball into the other person's goal with your Gravity Whip.
  • Play in Zero-G space, where the only forces that affect the ball are the Gravity Whip and the Gravity Wells
  • Ionize the opponent AI, the opponent's goal, or a Gravity Well for different, helpful effects (will be fully implemented in the near future).
  • Compete against a competent AI that will keep you playing for hours.

What's Next?
As we continue to develop the game, we hope to implement new game modes and further tweak the AI.

About Us:
