Why Early Access?

“Architect Empire has lofty goals, and needs tons of feedback from the community in order to fine tune and direct the development of the game. That feedback will be used (as it was in our previous game, Zavix Tower), to improve the game on a daily bases. I want to create a rapid feedback loop with the community (as we did with Zavix Tower), with rapid updates (often every day or 2) and really take this game to the next level. I also need money to fund the development, as such all the money that is brought in during Early Access will go directly back into the game. No matter how much, or how little comes in 100% of it will go back into the game .”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I expect the game to be in Early Access for 5-6 Months. But I am open to adjusting that based on feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“All of the game systems will be more complex than their simplistic states of the current game version.

Right now I am just starting with Rome, but I would like to have many more like the 3 Kingdoms period in China, Ancient Egypt, and more! All off this heavily depends on funding though. I will also be adding a campaign to the game. Currently the game only has the custom game option available, but the campaign(s) is a very high priority for me and will be added in during Early Access.

I am also open to adding multiplayer if the community wants it and the funding makes it possible.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is playable, but as of now all of the systems of the game are in their infancy, as such none of them are considered finished and all of them will be changing and becoming more complex over time.

I have most the Roman culture currently in place, and the custom game option available. The game has most of its key features in place in rough versions, but need more TLC and polish via community feedback. There is a trade system, a war/diplomacy system, tech trees, weather system, a building decay system, and an event system currently in the game, but more systems will be added over time.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“It is very likely that the price of this game will increase over time. We want to start out at a low price, due to the game not being complete and thus reward early adopters for their time and faith in us. But as the game becomes closer to feature complete I expect the price to increase.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community is the #1 reason I want to be in Early Access. In the past with Zavix Tower the community was an extremely positive force that allowed me to develop a much better game. The feedback and accountability that I expect to receive from the community is integral to making this game great :)

I tend to try to have a rapid feedback loop with the community (especially in Early Access), often times responding within a couple of hours (if I am sitting at my desk it can be even faster), and almost always within a day. I answer questions and read every single bit of feedback, from there I compile a priority list of things to fix, refine, or add to the game. I also typically update the game 2+ times per week during the Early Access period so that the community can then give more feedback.”

Update 1.32b: Last Month stats, and bug fixes

Hey Everyone,

This is mostly a bug fix patch, with the addition of showing "last month" stats as well. Im working to get the water system and level 6 in on Friday, but we shall see how that goes.

Patch Notes:

- Added "Last Month" stats to the stat sheet.
- Added portraits for 2x2 temples.
- Fixed a bug that did not allow you to build temples of Venus or Minerva (the 2x2 temples).
- Fixed a bug that could make builders not build...
- Fixed part of a bug that caused briges to be slightly out of alignment (there is another one somewhere).

Update 1.32: Bridges, and Muggings

Hey Everyone,

The Main bits today are Bridges, and the Mugging event. Bridges are pretty straight forward with the exception of you cant build 2 bridges right next to each other, and they can only go a maximum of 5 water spaces (also bridges may not line up 100% perfectly with each segment, I will try to get this worked out next week). Muggings happen when your people are unhappy (individual people not the average), and can not happen before the 20th day. Muggings also have a cooldown, so you wont just go from rich to bankrupt in no time. To see which areas of your city are unhappy I also added a happiness overlay.

The bridge will allow you to build on 2 sides of a river much more effectively, and the mugging event will finally give you a hard reason to keep your happiness up. Both additions should have a substantial effect on gameplay :)

Patch Notes:

- New Building: Bridge, The bridge will allow for faster travel over water. Bridges cost 25 per segment. People can still travel through water, but bridges make it much more feasible to build on both sides of a river.
- New Overlay: Happiness Overlay. The happiness overlay will give you an at a glance view of the average happiness of each home. Keep in mind that just because the average is good, does not mean their are not individual issues...
- Muggings of your tax collectors can now happen when your people are unhappy. This effect is lessened by Constables. The mugging severity scales with your city, and can not take place in the first 20 days.
- minor text changes in various places.
- Added a building collapse animation.
- Granary now shows how full it is by how many windows are filled.
- Fixed a bug where if you removed your builders before you built any houses, they would not retake their jobs and nothing could be built.
- New immigrants will no longer take jobs until they have a home. This fixes a bug that could make your people work infinitely without resting.

Next up:

I am currently working on the rest of the water and health system. I hope to have them done by Friday next week along with level 6.

About This Game

Empire Architect is an ancient city-building real time strategy game, with elements from grand strategies sprinkled in for good measure. The Campaign is set in the historical Roman empire, and Custom game levels are procedurally generated. You have limited control over your subjects therefore your main focus is to build your city, manage resources, appease the gods, educate you people, keep your people happy, and deal with events as the happen all while your rivals try their best to take you out! Defend yourself and fight back with all you might!

Features:

  • Take control of an ancient culture (So far only Rome, but I would love to add more if possible).
  • Have your people gather resources and produce ever more complex goods with them.
  • Appease the gods through the religion system, or feel their wrath if you ignore them.
  • Educate your people in order to take on better jobs.
  • Entertain the masses through the entertainment system or risk them causing trouble in your city.
  • Open Trade routes and trade both domestically and abroad.
  • Research upgrades in the tech trees.
  • Battle the very elements themselves in our custom Weather System.
  • Build on Procedurally Generated custom maps.
  • Do battle in the Historical Campaign (currently 5 of around 15 levels are in the game).
