About This Game

The First Templar follows the story of two main characters – a French Templar, and his companion, a noble lady who has been proclaimed a heretic. Taking control over these two unlikely allies, the player must uncover the mysteries behind the Templar Order, play a role in a grand conspiracy, and discover the secret of the Holy Grail. The heroes face powerful opponents at every turn, including Sacracen, King Philip the IV of France and the Inquisition.

The First Templar features both single player and co-op modes. When playing solo, the player can switch between the two characters, leaving the control of the second hero to the game’s AI. At any moment a second player can join in and take control of the AI-controlled hero.

The First Templar we land at the time of the Knights Templar and search for the Holy Grail. Too bad: In technical terms, the action game is a journey into the past.
Our main character is thus Celian never traveled alone but is accompanied either by Roland and Marie, who are covered by the AI. By pressing a button but we can also slip into the skin. Really needed that is almost never falls apart, Celian must be revived once in battle.

The focus of the game action is the melee against numerous Saracen knight and various animals. For their elimination we receive experience points that we can spend in a rather daunting skill tree against new or improved attacks, more life energy or fervor that we need to convey especially strong attacks.

Especially numerous or diverse attack combinations are not going particularly stubborn left-clicking against most opponents quite sufficient. Against something stronger opponents, or even the sparsely seeded bosses, however, we must use our times shield, dodge or break their defense with a charged shock. That's it then but even with the tactical component. Finishing moves are usually triggered automatically, but occasionally we need to hammer in the course of a quick time events to a specific key.
However Largest crux of the matter are the wooden and untimely animations. Are these in the fighting still just as bearable, gestures and running animations are far below current standards.

The fighting are loosened again by dropping courses and creep deposits. At least that was the plan, the developer probably because in the end you can safely ignore both. Traps rarely align as much damage than that you could not just run through and through most stealth passages it is just as well by beating, which also still earns bonus XP.
In each level there's next to the main target also three bonus missions. Should these fail, however, you can not just load the previously allocated memory status and try again, because The First Templar exclusive offers an automatic checkpoint system.

The First Templar draws you in with delightful visuals and rhythmic combat, but technical foibles can lessen your fun.
I recommend it only for genre fans!

Rather surprising amount of depth in this game. While I probably wouldn't buy this at full price, getting it on sale or in a bundle is a sure thing.

The graphics are pleasant - not perfect but for the most part I was happy looking around at what the game had to offer. It played a lot like a non-complex Witcher (2). Gameplay was responsive with button combos to swing your sword this way or that or kick or whatever, and there are RPG elements to unlock more combos/abilities/perks. Honestly I was expecting poor gameplay and that was a surprise for me.

The story is better than many of the reviews are stating, but it's not told in a very effective way. Cheesy lines delivered by soft-spoken NPCs in which you see little. But it's there. It's not Shakespeare in that it's easy to miss if your ears aren't open, but it's a bit harder to pick up is all.

Regardless, story is not needed. It's meant to be played not read or watched (in that if it were a movie or a novel it would suck).

The individual cells or environments are unique enough and I rather enjoyed snapping between two characters or having the option to play co-op (not that I have any friends). Many people say there are too many co-op games, but I feel a lot of games just ignore co-op even if it would fit perfectly. At least give those of us who like co-op the option, and those who don't like it lose nothing in the process.

All in all a good experience. A poor man's Witcher 2.

Nice linear experience, it's dated though, but if you like this kind of games (linear rpg-like with hack&slash combat mechanics) then it's totally worth it!

It's a shame that The First Templar doesn't get much credit for it has a quite splendid plot and the fighting mechanisms of two playable characters are solid enough for player to try differnet tactics instead of tapping one mouse button at each strike. There is also some nice, light puzzle solving and sneaking features time to time. Unfortunately I haven't had chance to try co-op with this, but according to what people say it should be even more entertaining.
So, is this game something groundbreaking? No.. but I have surely enjoyed playing it !!

This is a really OK game. Nothing really stood out to me that made this anything other than a very generic hack and slash adventure game. The levels are extremely one-way. The move set you have is very limited...I basically finished the game by only using the main basic attack (left click), there is no other attacks available...

The story is horribly slow paced and dull, characters are no better, they all seem very bland and uninteresting.

This is also a really bad port, you are unable to play in 1080p, you have to set your resolution to something weird...that is just unacceptable in this age of pc gaming. I also experienced some frame rate drops, but this was fixed by using vsync.

The one and only redeeming factor is that you can do local co-op, this is something which is an instant bonus in any game as it adds to the fun factor of being able to sit on the sofa and have a laugh with a buddy while playing a poor game.

Skip this one.

My first impression about this game was like, what the hell those movements.. eww so unrealistic and like that. But while i was playing it, i got used to it, i started loving the story. Sometimes the missions are pretty boring when you need to do almost the same thing as in the other ones. But oh well, the game is awesome i would say, i like to explore and find these crates hehe. 10/10

DO NOT BUY FOR CO-OP.

This game forces you to use facebook for it's friendslist management. On top of no less than 2 other accoutns you must make to play it at all.

In addition to those anoyances/c()ck-blocks for non FB users, the 1920X1080 support was laughable, squeezing the game's movies into a 640X480 box with all the text at the bottom staying persistant so ti laps one over the other making subtitles pointless garbled gibberish.

Wasted mine and my firend's money, dont waste yours.

For the sale price of $2.99 (85% off) it's worth it. Don't expect AAA level gaming but you can definitely do worse at this price. It reminds me of Assassin's Creed (without the scaling of buildings) but with its quirks. The graphics are console quality think PS3 but cleaner because of Antialiasing. Also, I normally like to use a keyboard and mouse but prefer using an XBOX 360 controller in this game which helped with my character's movement during combat scenes. If you purchase the game, you'll quickly see why I prefer the controller to the keyboard and mouse. Also, I think its cool that you can play with a friend in split-screen. One person uses the Keyboard and Mouse and the other the XBOX 360 controller. Apparently there is also an online mode but honestly I haven't tried it yet.

Fun co-op game. Got it on sale for 3 dollars. I don't know if I would have paid 20.

Combat is fun once you get the hold of it. Nice longish story for only a 4gb game.

The First Templar is an action RPG set in a medieval times, where you take on a role of a crusader wandering in search of Holy Grail. The beginning of the story might sound dull but overall plot is well written and quite enjoyable.
The game mechanics is quite simple yet entertaining. The game is not that hard even on the highest difficulty setting. It is also quite long, there are over 20 levels total, each worth about 30 to 45 mins of gametime.
It should be noted that the game features a co-op mode fully implemented into the story. All the achievements are also obtainable in this mode and the game is much more fun when playing it with a friend, though you might experience some network lag from time to time.
The largest flaw of the game is its outdated graphics, it seems sub-par even for the time of its release.
All in all this a great game for co-op, I definitely recommend it. Playing it solo might be much less enjoyable.

What you do in this game:
1. Run foward
2. Fight (repeatedly smash your attack button)
3. Run foward
4. Fight the same type of enemies again.
5. See cut-scene
6. Rinse and repeat

Graphics are nice, other than that the game is pure utter ♥♥♥♥. It is really simple and straight foward. Combat is button smashing, story is trying to be fun B class but is not even that. There are no puzzles unless you call "use 2 levers to open door" a puzzle. Only thing you do in this game is run foward and fight, no alternative roads or ways to play.

This game looks five years older, and is obsolete both technically and gameplay-wise.
However, its theme and cooperative modes are enjoyable.

So sad I've wasted my money on this crappy game.

Ok, first, you need to create an account. Then you play the solo campaign, and you realize it's a total crap. So, you want to try the multi, right ? And guess what ? You need to create another account ! Awful, but doable, right ?

Problem : once you've done it, you can't even create a multi game, you need to link your account to Facebook first, and then play only with your Facebook friends !

Whoever thought about this system need to either stop taking drugs, or stop making video games.

Worst game ever. I could have bought a sandwich with the money, and I'd be more satisfied with my life.

This game is far below the industy standard, even for an indie it's quite bad.

The movement is clunky, the character doesn't do a full rotation when moving it only has four sections where the character just jumps too and it's really off-putting, adding onto that there is no jumping so it kind of takes away the freedom of free movement and it feels like playing laggy ball simulator 2014.

The gameplay was mediocre, the cutscenes were using the same base animations over and over and it sometimes cut the diologue short in which case when you miss like 10 seconds of the dialogue you missed the clumped together story.

The story feels last minute, very little depth but they made sure to over complicate it with big names and 5000 random characters they want you to remember but never introduced to any of them.

Just a bad game, i wouldn't recommend buying no matter the price.

DON'T BUY THIS GAME IF YOU WANT TO PLAY CO-OP

I bought this game to play co-up with my friend.

But the first thing that hit me is, that you can't play on Steam, but have to login on Kalypso's server, which p!sses me off - because I chose Steam, so that I don't have to login, in all kind of other places, when I want to play.

So already here, Kalypso fails.

I then find out I need a facebook profile, which I hate with all my heart, to be able to play with my friend.

And because of this, I will never by another game from Kalypso.

I do wish that Steam wouldn’t allowed games that don't want to be play on there system.
