Why Early Access?

“Avalon is being developed by a very small team and so far most of it has been a one man job. The game is being designed with expandability in mind. I want to take ideas and visions others have to add into this game so I am very open to comments and suggestions. Gathering feedback from passionate players will help me understand what is working and what is not, what needs improvement and to make sure the game is as enjoyable as it can be. Also in the end I too can play the game I always wanted to play!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“A rough estimate will be a period of about 6 to 8 months. If its too short that won't give me the time to add all the cool ideas and things into the game that others suggest. Any longer and I would be afraid players might loose patience and/or interest with a long dragged out EA.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“More polished, balanced and include more content and many other cool things that I am confident players will mention. Content such as more starships, resources, items, factions, facilities, unique locations, props, creatures, etc are easy to add since the game is being designed with expandability in mind. Also Steam achievements are something that I am looking to add in. In the end I envision the game to be larger and simply better. Check out my planned feature list.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Game is currently entering beta. All features listed in the description are in place and working.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Full version of the game will be priced higher since it will be a bigger game and there will be much more added content.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Rest assured I plan on being very active with the community. I am not one to release an EA title only to abandon it. Remember, I also want to play this game! So I will be posting updates and announcements regarding the development process, making notes of feedback and suggestions as I go along. I will also post updates on my website like new screenshots, developer videos and let's plays showing new features and game play.”

Avalon v0.1.5.0 (prehistoric) has warped in!



Hello space travellers! I'm happy to say this big update has finally arrived! Many things here i've been wanting to get in the game for sometime now. Here is a list of the details...

- Added new item, Maint. Supplies which is required to repair ship systems and can also be sold.

- Maint. Supplies can now be purchased at Spaceports within stations.

- Science data can now be bought or sold at science labs.

- Added shuttle shields as an item that can be purchased or sold at manufacturers. These shields can absorb one atmosphere lighting bolt each. This allows shuttles the ability to go down into extreme atmospheres much easier.

- Added a new station type called Service Docks. These provided limited service to ships passing through a sector. Food/Water, Fuel, Supplies and Maint. Supplies can be bought and sold at these stations.



- Added a new prehistoric planet type. Dinosaurs may sometimes be found here!

- Added new creature types and enhanced some others.

- Added Star Clusters as a spectacle that can sometimes be discovered in sectors for exploration tokens

- Added new prop for planets rock mesas which can appear on volcanic or prehistoric worlds.



- Added snow caves on ice planets.

- Added new limited station type, a shipyard which allows ship repairs and upgrades.


- Added several new gui sound effects

- Added new gui panel at top which shows light indicators of damaged ship systems, ship condition and other messages.

- Message dialogs are now displayed under the new gui panel at top.

_ Right clicking on button buy or sell buttons now has rapid effect to buy or sell large sums.

- Scan screen for stations have changed and now will only show short description.

- Improved graphics on some planetary locations such as huts, lighthouses, and others.

- Natives may sometimes appear in huts on prehistoric worlds

- Alien non combat ships graphic improvements and now more scaled.



- Manufacturing Complex will now show up when built on a planet

- Fixed a bug on academy and crew management screen when number of high officers where listed as pilots

- Red creature tokens that kill exploration team no longer shows up when digging. Instead actual creatures may enter the area since digging disturbs the environment.

- Improved graphics on some screens.

- Enhanced station interior graphics.

- Added background sound clip to casino, bar & grill and church.

- Can now pray for electronic data chips in church and also light a candle.

- Improved graphics in all station shops such as bar & grill, church, academy, science lab and others.

- Added icon sign to all shops in stations.

- Can now press button to roll dice in casino.

- Slightly increased chance of finding electronic data chip in an artifact location.

- Luxury item and artifact tokens now give out much less.

- Value of soil samples and fossils greatly reduced.

- Added gui panels to planetary surface controls.

Ok that is it for now. Next update I have some really cool things i've been wanting to add that I can't wait to see in action. So until then, now entering jump in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, engaged!

Getting closer!

Getting things wrapped up here with v0.1.5 (prehistoric) and I am happy to say I have an approximate eta now. If all goes well it should be posted anytime within the next 4 days. This is now one of the largest updates to Avalon since the game's release. So it required a lot more testing and balancing of things. Oh and even more things have been added, changed, and improved on that list I posted in the last announcement. Well that's it for now, back to the stars and I will be back!

About This Game



Depart your homeworld of Avalon to begin the longest journey ever attempted by mankind to find the end of the universe. What is at the end of the universe and where is the end of the universe? This is where your journey begins. Collect electronic data chips that are scattered about throughout universe to get the location of the end of universe. Journey through space and explore unlimited sectors, stations, and planet surfaces in this sci-fi adventure game. Take command of a large starship, it's shuttles, rovers and even crew! Interact with many ships from large capital ships to small fighter groups, some will help you, others will attack. Dock at stations to talk to other travelers and personnel, visit shipyards, or shops such as manufacturers, science labs, bars, casinos, academies and more. Fly shuttles down into planet atmosphere, land and use rovers to explore planet surfaces and even exit rover to explore on foot! On planets there are many things to find and discover such as resources, artifacts, lifeforms, alien creatures, ruins, facilities, and more. Features a full random creation system where no two games are the same!




CURRENT FEATURES:

• Unlimited randomly generated space sectors, stations and planets to explore

• Numerous space ship types including everything from massive capital ships to small fighter groups



• Interact with ships such as a prison cruiser, which will allow you to hire prisoners to train as crew, price is cheap but watch out they can cause troubles on board such as theft, murder, hijack, etc.
• Hire and train personnel for various positions on board your ship

• Manage roster such as personnel, crew, pilots, leaders, explorers, engineers
• Dock and board space stations to do things such as meet people and aliens, buy or sell items, repair and maintain ship, visit science labs or other shops, and even gamble at a casino to win or lose big!

• Land on planets and explore their surface with shuttles, rovers and crew to find items and resources, search ruins, facilities, battle alien creatures and much, much more!

• Build structures on planets such as refineries, starports, agricultural domes and several other types of facilities for steady income or production

• Destroy asteroids to collect valuable resources

• Multiple ways to win including several minor goals as well as the main goal


Note: This is the current features list. The game is early access and more features are to come! This game is being designed with expandability in mind. As a result there are extra place holders in certain areas throughout the game listed as coming soon.

Planned future features:
These are just some things that I would like to add in upcoming versions as the early access version matures...
• Player ship upgrades such as hull, firepower, laser efficiency, max fuel and energy storage, etc
• Lots more creature types and props on planet surfaces
• More starship types and factions of course
• More space stations and types of shops
• More different types of items and resources
• More planetary facility and location types
