What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The game is still being polished, and as part of the early VR software wave, is subject to mechanics and gameplay changes based on player feedback and comfort.

I also intend to continue development after release, building new content as well as adding on to existing content.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“As long as it takes to solve performance issues, commit bug fixes, and gather enough feedback to polish the game for comfort and ease of use.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of the game will be (hopefully) free of any major bugs, performance problems, or overall discomfort due to game mechanics. I also plan to add in Steam Achievements once the game itself is in a well-received state, as well as many additional voice-over elements once I can afford to properly pay the voice actors for their quality work.

The final version of this game will be the first part and proof of concept for a entire library of VR Tales, to be sold as a pack or as compatible individual titles. The final idea is to have a storybook, similar to the Brothers Grimm or Aesop tales, of VR experiences aimed at capturing the spirit of those tales in a modern medium.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current state of this game is near-finished, with the major parts in place and only bugs, performance, and comfort as the main priorities.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will be priced the same throughout it's life time (apart from sales and discounts), whether as a standalone or part of pack of similarly priced games.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The community's feedback will be invaluable and instrumental in ensuring the game and it's future companion titles are playable, enjoyable, and valued as recommendable experiences. Critical, constructive feedback is absolutely necessary, not only for my own title, but for every VR title at this early juncture in VR gaming.”

Graphics Update, Performance Improvements, Nav Mesh fixes.

Hello all you people. Apologies for the long silence, had some things take priority over everything else.

Today's update is a small or big one, depending on what you place importance on in gaming:

-After quite a few comments and reviews stating dissatisfaction with the resolution and visual design of the game, I've made efforts to improve on both. It's still a work in progress, but I've made pretty substantial improvements to ground textures, rock textures, and the overall look of the environment. Things should now look far more natural and realistic, hopefully improving on immersion.

-Fiddling with the occlusion, I've managed to increase performance, which should improve jittering for some systems.

-Fixed a nav mesh issue that was causing pathing issues on the Huntsman level for NPCs.

Please leave feedback if there are any issues, in the Steam forum preferably.

About This Game

Redswood VR is a virtual retelling of the Red Riding Hood story. In this tale, you play as both Red and then the Huntsman, each separately tasked with making their way through a dying and unrecognizable forest from their pasts to the inevitable conclusion at Granny's house.

As Red, you recount the past and discover new things in the forest, while rekindling your love for tree climbing and refreshing your skills with your old trusty slingshot. Granny's house awaits, as does the forest.

As the Huntsman, you must uncover the mystery of what happened to Red, and why she hasn't returned. Hired for a job, you soon discover this gig is far more personal than you realized. You must use your skills as a huntsman and former woodsman to traverse the forest, avoiding or plowing through danger, and finding out what happened to the missing girl.

Play as both, play the story, or play around in living, breathing forest. Walk, run, jump, climb, shoot, throw, swim, and swing.

Key features

-Various forms of world locomotion, including teleporting, arm swinging to walk, climbing rocks and trees, and grapple hooking around like your favorite wallcrawler. Choice in movement designed to maximize flexibility and provide comfortable options for all players.
-A deeper look into the characters of Red and the Huntsman, exploring their thoughts and motivations beyond the context of the fable.
-A forest playground from both character's past, completely open to exploration and traversal.
