What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Discrepant is delivered in 2 parts. We changed tack recently as we had made great progress on chapter 2, and decided to put chapter 1 and 2 together and release it simply as Part 1. More value for you, the player.

Each will be a full featured game offering many hours of game play. Part 1 is development complete, and by releasing to Early Access, we have the opportunity to refine what we have done and develop Part 2 together with you, the players. Getting valuable feedback about the plot and game play difficulty will help inspire and direct the game. We want this to game to surprise, frustrate, challenge and lure you into it's plot and characters, and captivate you. It is a high calling, and having early feedback is critical to allow us to make the game as good as we want it to be.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently do not expect Early Access to last longer than 6 months. The game is planned to be released in 2 parts. Part 1 has 6 expansive levels of game play, threading a complicated story line. Part 2 will be released within a year of Part 1.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Early Access will give the player the full Part 1, which is made up of 6 connected game levels, and several hours of game play. Every quarter we plan to release the next chapter of the game into Early Access which will allow us to develop the each chapter concept one at time, whilst focusing on polishing and refining the previous chapter. The final game is planned to be 2 Parts, with at least 12 expansive game play areas. Those who buy Early Access will not only get Part 1 at the discounted part but will also get Part 2 for half price!”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Chapter 1 is plot complete, and playable from start to finish with each level already quite refined, and only missing cosmetic enhancements, extra sound effects and level clutter and debris. Some features will be more finalized than others, and we will be taking in player feedback throughout. Discrepant development has been extended due to a lot of extra content we can't bear to leave out.... and is scheduled to enter Early Access now in June 2017.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Early Access pricing will be "significantly" discounted from the Retail version in order to reward early adopting players. Specifics will be announced closer to the Early Access launch date.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“As an Indie game developer, we are a small team, but wish to be highly accessible to the community. We will maintain regular and transparent communication with our Early Access players, and seeking input and feedback through our Official Website and Official Facebook pages. We expect to identify key players who are most proactive, and give them greater influence in the plot over time.”

Massive update scheduled!

Hi all,

Work has not stopped, and in fact more content is being added with a additional levels being added to Chapter 1 to improve game play and story line. Chapter 1 is likely to take 40% longer to complete as a result! A subway system, a complete urban city area, another complete neighborhood to explore, an extensive mutli-floor office building have been added. You can now catch the subway to move between places, and even drive a fully featured car to get around and explore whilst unraveling the plot.

A lot of new dialog has been added between Sebastian, Sue and the Manager, as well as additional side characters.

I think we're having a bit of a creative splurge and unable to reign ourselves in ;-) just yet. Don't worry, still working toward a 2017 release, so it is coming.... promise!

Any interest in beta testings, please apply on our website, at http://www.discrepantgame.com/beta_access.html

All the best!

About This Game

Discrepant is a psychological sci-fi adventure game set in the town of New Haven. Roused by the rumblings of distant explosions and the sounds of a screaming man falling to his death right outside your front door, you awaken as Sebastian, an average man in a decidedly abnormal situation. In order to gain any kind of explanation for what's going on in your small town, you'll have to weave your way through disconcerting situations, uncomfortably dark environments, and deadly peril at every corner. Your wife Sue might be able to help you, but by the way she sounds, she's just as anxious and confused as you are.

Discrepant is a thought provoking first person game set in the genre of movies like Dark City, Donnie Darko and Thirteenth Floor.
