What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Grid Masters is being released on early access to support development and get feedback from the community. We have the base of what we believe is an amazing game that with some work can see a larger cast of characters and a bigger variety of game modes to keep players coming back for more.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Depending on player feedback, we expect to be in early access for 1 to 2 years while we add new characters, stages, game modes, and features.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“For the full game we are hoping for the following, however community feedback and interest will effect what makes it into the final version.
  • An endless mode
  • 12 characters
  • Match making
  • Leader boards
  • Game modifiers
  • Additional game modes inspired by the community
  • Skins
  • Information pages about each character
  • Competitive ranking system

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“We are launching into early access with local and online multiplayer death matches. Online matches can be found through a server list. We have an arcade mode where you can fight your way to a special final match. This can be played solo or coop. We also have a practice mode which shows damage values so you can find and master the best combos for each combatant.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“While in early access we will be selling the game for 30% off of it's final price. We don't think our players should pay for parts of the game that aren't done yet. As we add more content throughout the early access the price may increase, but you can rest assured that the final price will stay the same.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Since each combatant is unique, we want to hear from the community about which abilities they like and which they find to be less than fun. We also hope to collect data on how the characters are being used to balance them appropriately and improve our AI. We've also seen the steam community post lots of videos showing off all sorts of bugs from other games and we hope see some posted of bugs from our game. All of these things will have us build a fun and balanced competitive fighter.”

Version 0.4.1.0 Released

Update on the online games list: After looking into our current system, we realize we have a lot of work to get things working smoothly. Changes will require fixes to the game code, so the online game list will be unavailable until a future game update. We hope to have this fixed by the next update but are unsure if it will be fixed in time. We will describe our progress if not. Thank you all for your patience.

For the Steam Winter Sales, we're announcing the release of Grid Masters 0.4.1.0 and celebrating by making the game 50% off!

We've gotten a lot of great feedback over the last month and some of the fixes in this update address some of the problems we've been hearing about. Keep the feedback coming!

Now onto the patch notes:
  • Updated combat HUD
  • Health bars have a backing for more contrast
  • Health bar colors match player colors from the character select screen
  • Cool down animations look better
  • Visual indicator added for when a cool down finishes
  • Character faces, names, and player number added to health bar
  • Animating selector arrow for menus
  • Added backing box to pause menu in game
  • Fixed final match image in arcade victory screen to show all characters

About This Game

Fight for victory in a 1v1 or 2v2 grid-based deathmatch in Grid Masters. Represent your favorite faction as one of five characters (with more to come), each with their own unique abilities. Toss massive bombs, rocket punch, or send explosive robot minions to take your enemies down!

Grid Masters takes place on the planet Orikos, where vast alliances, held together by bonds of convenience rather than loyalty, constantly struggle for power and influence. Nations work anonymously to sabotage both friends and enemies, while giant company blocs, called Megacorps, hover around these nations like scavengers, controlling commerce and wielding enormous power under the leadership of a mysterious council, the Directorate.

The animosity among the different nations and the Megacorps is at its strongest on the Grid. Every year, the great powers of the Orikos send their finest warrior to compete in order to prove their power. The winner’s host gains influence and notoriety, while the victor is awarded fame and fortune. The losers pay briefly with their lives before the Respawners throw them back into the fray. Who will be this year’s champion?

Grid Masters is influenced by Megaman Battle Network and Super Smash Brothers.
