What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Core aspects of the game is already implemented and we are now focusing on achieving that delicate game-play balance and adding late game content. This requires player feedback; not just one but many. Early Access is the perfect fit for this.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The honest answer here would be: As long as it takes to achieve that golden game-play balance. A rough ballpark of this duration would be between half a year to a year.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Polish and volume.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Core aspects of the game is already implemented and we are focusing on achieving that delicate game-play balance and adding late game content. At the time of the release, it should have four fully functional levels out of the planned twelve. Subsequent patches will follow to add unique levels and content.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Price will stay fixed during Early Access, but will definitely be priced higher upon full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We've learned over the years that community feedback is much faster and often more accurate when it comes to balancing and bug fixing. We've also learned that community involvement gives birth to many great ideas. We are open to listening to our community at anytime.”

0.2 News and Future

So, I've been working day and night to get 0.2 build released this week (after delays) and as of now, all new features are ready to go. QA results are quite good as well. And I am sitting here with a 0.2 build that has many new features.

Frankly, though, I am not quite happy about the current status of Tavern Tycoon. There are bugs in the game that I haven't been able to hunt down properly mostly because I haven't been able to play the game much lately. It is a strange feeling constantly working on it and testing it, but feeling distant from it. (sigh) 0.2 is a big step up for the game, new rooms, new guests, new mechanics to play the game. And yet, I feel that it doesn't quite live up to what I expected. Hard to put it in words but it just doesn't feel as good as previous iterations of the game.

I've been pushing out patches to keep everyone happy (or I tried XD) and yes, I am proud to have pressed myself to keep up with the flow, often forgetting that Tavern Tycoon is in Early Access. This started twisting things a bit. For example, all patch ETAs are tentative and was just a form a communication between the dev(me :D) and players (you XD) but it sort of became a promise that I had to keep. I know that I drove myself to this so no complaining, but I realized that this is not really helping development. I've come to a deadline with a ready build that I am not happy about T.T

For these reasons, I am postponing the 0.2 patch indefinitely. And by that, I mean I am going to work on it until I am 100% happy about it. I am taking the "it is ready when it is ready" road - don't take this the wrong way - I am just letting everyone know that the patch will be worked on without a deadline. (Obviously we are not talking about months and months of preparation XD, just no ETA announcement) I figured this is better than delaying it by few days every deadline. Same work load, same speed, same development - just no fixed dates to pressure me through the process XD

Let's just try this way for 0.2 and we can decide as a community what's best for patches after 0.2.

I intend on working with the community for translations and I will be opening up another forum just for translations. Please contact me via my email regarding this if you are interested in help me out :D

The first three languages to be translated are French, Spanish and German.

I am also looking for someone who is interested in helping me sort the forum (Moving threads to the right sub section and merging duplicate or related posts). Work involved is not difficult if you have some experience with Steam forum, so I am really looking for someone who loves the game, and also love sorting things XD

Please email me should you wish to get involved.

About This Game

By word, by book, the tales of the brave and mighty are told in reverie. Every warrior is remembered, his stories spreading like a magician’s flame. But, what happens after the story? Where does the hero go after slaying the dragon, rescuing the damsel and freeing the people from an untold terror? No one really knows what happens to the old and retired soldiers. They listen of course, to the very far fetched stories that are passed down from mouth to mouth. Where? In the very taverns that are bustling with legends and the young at heart.

After years of roaming free, slaying evil and merrymaking in halls of drink, everyone takes an arrow to the knee. They have obligations and duties but most of all, the retired life is boring and redundant. They miss the dangers and wish they were young again. What better way to relive the life than to run a tavern? Travellers and adventurers from all kingdoms, far and wide come aspiring for fame and glory. They tell tales of their adventures, transforming cotton tails to horrendous beasts, morphing storms to witchery! All the danger relived in safety because at the end of the day, the warmth still burns in the fireplace.

Your job is to run the tavern - Dragon's Hangover. Some will seek drinks and food while some might seek the warmth of a bed. Manage your tavern and be the host that all adventurers admire. Your journey, as the tavern's keep, begins now.
