The Long Awaited 'Survival Update’!

The Survival Update, as its name suggests, is not DLC, but an update to the game itself.

Mac Compatibility
Up until the update to the Steam SDK in July, the way Big Picture worked meant we were unable to offer a Mac version, but that's all changed now.
Sorry to keep all the Mac owners waiting, but it's finally here.

Price Change
Back in 1995 is currently $7.99 as part of the Degica Sale this week,
but once this is finished, we'll be changing the price to $9.99.

English Voices
Voices have been added to the in-game cut scenes.

Additional Hard Mode + Overall Rebalancing
Ichijo-san reviewed and changed the fixed animation frames for the player character and hit detection, which is why this is no longer just an added mode, but an update to the entire game.
This is why that while system data is backwards compatible, save data is not. So even those of you who finished the game in a previous version will be playing from the beginning again.

New location, enemies and puzzles
This update contains a new location: "The Factory". There are some new puzzles and some existing stages also have additional locations. However, there are no achievements.

Updated Controller Support
Added compatibility for a lot more controllers and changed the game to handle full controller support too. Hopefully, this will also fix many of the controller-related issues some of you were experiencing.

Other Items
Improved various elements including camera work, effects, the scenario etc.

Hope you all enjoy the update!

About This Game

A throwback to the survival horror and mystery games of the original PlayStation, Back in 1995 faithfully re-creates everything from this all-but-forgotten era of games.

Be transported to a world both concrete and indistinct, where you must uncover the mystery surrounding the disappearance of your daughter, the catastrophe that shook the city, and why you’ve decided to finally return.

Back in 1995 was created as a labour of love by indie developer Takaaki Ichijo as a means to replicate the unique feeling he had from his first gaming experiences: the PlayStation and the Sega Saturn.

Features:

  • Get lost in the nostalgic world of retro 3D graphics, including low res models, texture warping, CRT emulation, and fixed CCTV style camera angles.
  • Relive the mystery game genre with an old-school user interface and tank controls.
  • Explore a sparse cityscape in the year 1995, littered with clues about the past.
  • Interact with a cast of damaged characters whose intentions you can never truly know.
  • Uncover the mystery of yourself, your daughter, and what happened to the city.

* D-pad recommended
* A 720p or greater screen resolution is required
* Approximate playtime is 2-3 hours
