This is the demo to Skullgirls creator Lab Zero's upcoming RPG Indivisible and it has left quite an impression on me.
Not all of it is positive and speaking as a backer I really hope my opinions on the game can go somewhere.
The game does have a similiar feel to Skullgirls with the obvious sound effects and Alex Ahad art style, but is a totally different game overall. I have heard some folk tag this as metroidvania and speaking as a metroidvania enthuiast I cannot agree. I suppose being a seemingly free roaming and beautiful 2D RPG makes it one to that extent, but Indivisible feels different from say Castlevania: Symphony of The Night, Dust: An Elysian Tail and such as far as it's combat is concerned. While I prefer this style I am glad Indivisible is not that. It feels different from any action RPG I have played in my young life. I did not play the games that inspired it so from my mental library that I draw a comparison to is Final Fantasy XII and that is still very diffrent. Thankfully I like Final Fantasy XII and Indivisible is so far shaping up to have those same felings from me. The characters in the flow of combat are a bit odd to get used to at first, but overall work very well. This is the shining star the game has and its very good even if a little refinment I hope the game has during it's developement cycle makes it better. The one thing I do not like and really stands out are the jumping and wall climbing mechanics of Indivisible. Oh hell do I hate it with a passion. The game is still good enough to like the rest of it, but the climbing mechanics are so unlikable and awful to me it gives me a headache. This is the thing I really hope gets ironed out and fixed the most. To me that is the one sin of the game and a bad one. Though the rest of the game is pretty damn good. Like her older sister Skullgirls I really like all the character designs. Everyone looks as different to each other as they play and there really is no one alike. For people looking for "body representation" Indivisible has that in somee lovely designs.
This is just a demo and if you can forgive the terrible wall climbing its a damn good one.

Visually great but the combat feels meaningless... It just encourages button mashing and practically removes any strategy or sense of involvement. Platforming is horrible. I got stuck early in the demo when it requires using the axe to climb. This platforming mechanic has so little tolerance for timing that I couldn't reliably scale the first instance. Since there was no-where else to go the game effectively came to an end.

If the final game is as fun as this prototype, you just HAVE to buy it!

Interesting combat mechanics, that combo off each other very well.
The aesthetics captured me, sound is fine. And all that is just a prototype, with the finished product promising more!

Beautiful. Fluid. Deceptively simple.

Early in the game, contols seem simplistic, random and a bit confusing as it adjusts to the direction you're facing. Wall hopping is easy and fast and momentum carries you exactly where you want to go, until about midway through when you encounter jumps that benefit from a bit more finesse.

As your party grows, and the number of attacks that can be executed by each member grows, and the number/strength of enemies grows the simplicity fades into a bit of chaos. I still don't think I've got blocking completely locked in and target switching is a bit clunky, but the shared meter between blocking and power moves is addictively strategic. It wasn't until my second go at the last boss that I realized in-fight healing was an option.

My first playthrough took 48 min and my second (NG+) took 28 min. There will probably be several more playthroughs because the I feel like I could do better and found the whole experience enjoyable. I played using a PS4 controller.

I'm usually not a fan of these types of games, but this one caught my eye.
And its awesome.
Just this prototype demo is better than a lot of full games that I've played.
Its already funded, but give 'em more money to make it better!

I'll say this, for a demo this was pretty interesting. The style of combat is unique, the exploration was fun, and the models of both the main characters and enemies were both interesting and unique. The only problem i could point out is that this shouldbe played with a controller rather than a keyboard, as there seems to be a small glitch which makes it that in combat, buttons assigned for specific characters would change from the last battle, making it a guessing game for which button controls who. Either way, support the campaign if you can and have fun with the awesome demo.

I have to say, when I first heard of this game and saw it. I was expecting this to be another average RPG. But it's more than what it is actually, the battle system isn't turn based , so you can attack the enemies multiple times before they can try to hit you. And it happens within the area you encounter them, It reminds me of the Mario and Luigi titles a bit. The 4 characters you play as in the demo are unique, I can't wait for what the others planned will be like when playing them. And the 3D backgrounds are looking great too. In fact this all looks good and it's only a prototype demo. I funded this game and the project's reached it's goal, so it should come in 2017, But you can still support this game by trying out this little demo. It's free, so go ahead. Ajna and the others are waiting for you.

In just the prototype phase, this is already a really fun game
By all means, if you can spare something, please fund Indivisible
This is more-or-less make or break for Lab Zero, so if you want more Skullgirls, just help out however you can

This is just a proof of concept, but IT'S SO MUCH FUN! We need to get this game funded, so that we can experience Lab Zero's full vision. Seriously. Do it.

Never played Valkyrie Profile or Super Metroid, have a strong desire to play both after checking out this prototype.
Fun 20-40 minute long proof of concept, consider giving the campaign page a look.

Very interesting art and combat, also has a secret boss if you want to test your twitch face button reflexes, certainly gave me a workout.

I was going to post a lengthy review on the prototype demo alone, but upon visiting the funding page and realizing that there are only 5 days left to fund the game I abandoned the idea immediately and will leave you with simply this: play the demo for yourself, and if you like it, for the sake of future and more importantly for the sake of this game,

FUND THIS PROJECT

Of course it's a bit shaky and a lot if it's design choices need to be tweaked, but who the hell cares anyway? Many crowd-funding games don't come out with these kind of strong prototypes that truly demonstrate the design of their game (*cough cough Red Ash/Mighty No. 9 cough cough*). There's some serious potential here! It's only about 30 min-1 hour for a normal first run, give this demo a shot! And if you have the money, go donate to this game. Seriously, this needs to get funded.

This prototype is simply amazing. I am really happy that now it is on Steam, so that everyone can enjoy it. If you are a RPG, action RPG, fighting or plataform game fan, you will do yourself a favor to download and play this prototype (And help it get funded after that).

This game is being developed by Lab Zaero, the people who made Skull Girls.

The gameplay is inspired in Valkyrie Profile, Super Metroid and Castlevania. In battles, you have 4 characters, each asigned to a button in your controller, if one of your characters has an action available you press the button and he/she attacks. Pressing up or down changes the attack (Damage, area of attack, speed of attack bar recovery, all of them are different for each attack). Each succesful combo builds up you "Iddhi" meter, which can be used for special attacks. When an enemy attacks, you can press the button of the character getting attacked for a block, which lowers damage and build up the Iddhi meter (it costs some Iddhi to defend in the first place though). Pretty simple to play, buth rather complex to master. Some people have problems with the fighting at first, but after you get used to it, the more you play , the better you get at it (At first the boss just whooped my ♥♥♥, now, I can beat him without breaking a sweat). The platform part is similar to Metroid.

The soundtrack is also amazing, I really don't get tired of hearing the game (I am in love with it, and litearlly just have 3 songs for now).

Visually it is amazing, the background are simply breathtaking. The aesthetics and enemy design are inspired in Asian and Middle East folklore and mythology, not only the It is without a doubt a beautiful game. I really like the character designs, you only use 4 fot this prototype, but there are already 21 revealed Incarnations (that is what the game's characters other tha Ajna are called), so expect a lot of flavours to suit your fancy and game style in the final product. Again, heavily influencedby Valkyrie Profile (And that is a good thing! ;) ). Apart from the original Incarnations, the final game will have playable guest characters from Shantae (Shantae), Shovel Knight (Shovel Knight), Skullgirls (Annie), Battle Chasers (Calibretto), Curses 'N Chaos (Lea), Hyper Light Drifter (The Drifter), and Super Time Force Ultra (Zackasaurus), so if you liked those games, one more reason to check the protoype.

I usually wish for something original and different, and this IS IT! It is the most fun I have had in months with a videogame, and just it is just a prototype, I can only imagine what the final product would be like. I love this game and want it to be funded, at the time I am witting this, there are 10 days left in the crowdfunding campaign an Indiegogo, and it is 75% funded (the perks are pretty sweat, and they are getting an upgrade soon), So, giveit a try and help us spread the word! You won't regret it!
