Trading Cards and Future Plans

Trading Cards
Trading Cards have been added! Unfortunately because the game is free-to-play they require a minimum purchase amount. If there was a switch to give all players cards I certainly would press it. Check out more specific details on your 'Badges' page.

Future Plans
Currently I'm working on iOS and Android versions of Emily hopefully to be released in the coming month or so. Still no updates on a potential sequel but it's something I'm definitely considering.

And seriously, thank you all for playing! I am so grateful for the support the steam community has shown me. We're closing in on a million downloads so that's very exciting!

Emily ... you ###### ### stupid ##### I would #### #### you with a pan and a broomstick, #### ... But why after all this year would I keep talking to her? My life is good and hers suck.
Don't be like Emily, she's jerking off old men for heroin now...

This game was suggested to me by a friend. This game reminds me of one of those free online dating games I used to play in middle school. The instructions seem clear enough, but took me two levels to realize that I was supposed to be playing as a boy. Not only that, but you have to type out all the responces you want to send. It was time consuming for something that should not have been. In the end the girl does not like you, and the friendship is ruined. It takes about 30 minutes to get through the whole gmae. A waste of 30 minutes.

i wonder if the programmer knew that girls were going to play this too. if so, 10/10 points i loved it and i loved having two girls fight over me wlw drama heck yeah

no for real tho: i got way too emotional playing this and i kept looking for ways to help Emily and have her be happy...was close to tears at one point bc i was being an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and you just cant be a good friend in this game. seems to me that either the maker wanted to parodize friendzone nice guy syndrome dudes or he believes so stronlgy in the fedora that he didnt even consider the possibilty that girls would play it too

like i said loved the as a bi girl i loved the gayness but im wary of the friendzone hook you just cant seem to escape

GREAT ART and PROGRAMMING tho! absolutely ♥♥♥♥ing loved the nostalgic feel and the writing was so well thought out, really intuitive!

After getting the same outcome at least five times, I decided to write this.

I like a video game that considers your choices, but this game decides everything for you. Whether you want to try and romance her or not, it will end the same way. The game just goes "listen, you love her".
At least it would have been better with more than one ending or giving the player a chance to move on from Emily and get together with Emma. But of course not.

Yes, the concept and story are nice, I'll give it that.
Certainly, I couldn't care enough for Emily, nor I felt like I was in the "shoes" of the protagonist, so I ended up feeling bad for him instead.

The presentation is really nice and all, but... It pretty much lacks in everything.
Emily isn't interesting, and I felt like a creep who tried to hit on someone totally not interested.

there's a great lot of choices, but sadly they do pretty much nothing special.

If you're looking for nostalgia, try it. If you're looking for a good story, pass.

... It's also a really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ idea to ask the player to type on the keyboard to show more and more of the text, it really feels like a chore.

Recommended - with some reservations for those expecting a game, and not a novel.

Rarely does a game come along where I feel the need to actually take the time to write a review - but even rarer still does something as simple as a game have the power to instantly transport me almost 20 years - short of heading to GOG, of course.

If you spent any significant portion of your life in front of a clicking Windows XP box, chatting over AIM, _everything_ about this title will rocket you back to a distant memory in a way that only Q could rival. From the perfectly executed windowsXP login screen, to the dings and doors of AIM, to the buddy icons and song lyrics in profiles and the ability to set your type to an unreadable blue-on-red, to the whirring of fans...

Superb. Simply put - the 'feel' of this is masterfully executed.

The tone and syntax of the writing is so spot on that I found myself actually remembering conversations with my then-girlfriend, now-wife as if it were just yesterday, and not two decades ago. If you didn't 'grow up' with AIM in this context, you won't get it, and I'm truly sorry for your loss. If you did, however, prepare to be astonished at how well Emily Is Away captures what is likely a forgotten, but very important, part of your life.

For the first playthrough, at least.

And here's the reservations: There's not much replayabilty, as much of it is significantly scripted, but honestly, that's to be expected with such an expertly crafted tone to the words. HOWEVER, as it's more of an interactive novel with a story to tell, emotions to evoke, and commentary to make, I cannot fault it for this - it's lasting impact would be vastly damaged if you could alter the outcome in any way.

THAT SAID: This game is free, and it is totally, unequivocably, worth the price of admission, and more. If you can afford it, donations to the author are completely justified.
