15 years ago I could sit for hours at the table with my brother and sister playing this game with pen and paper.

Today I just tried this game and had as much fun as I was having 15 years ago, except this time i was playing it on computer and with strangers. I'm sure many people are familiar with this game, you choose 5 themes (country, animal, celebrity etc), the game randomly gives you a letter then you have to find words starting with this letter for each theme as quickly as possible.

What is really good about it?

- No preset theme, the host choose the 5 theme, so if he's original you don't always have to give the same answers each game.

- Quick gameplay, 10 rounds each round lasting between 1 or 2 mins (50seconds to give your answers, 50seconds to validate the answers) If someone fills all theme he can hit the STOP button and end the round, if everyone is quick enough to validate or unvalidate the answers you don't even have to wait 50 seconds.

- Players choose what is right and wrong, after the round ends you'll see the different answers without knowing who replied what and player validate or unvalidate the answers.

- Many languages, there's room for different languages (russian, italian, spanish, french, german, english etc) So once more players pick this game up there's a good chance you'll be able to play this game in your native language and not getting your butt kicked in english like i am right now.

The game is really addictive, it's simple design really fits and is appealing.

That's a game I really wanted to have. Orly did a giveaway for it and I got a key like that. However, while I was interested a lot in it, I got disappointed for now.

Stop Online is a game where you're trying to find nouns beginning by a given letter for five defined themes. The good part of it is that you can set the language you want to use, though after that, you need to find people speaking it to play. When you completed all, you can stop the game and then...

Here is probably the main problem of Stop Online. Indeed, the validation of all the answers are done by players. And if you're playing with people that don't give a damn about real words but care only for their own scores/rank/achievements, you'll see stuff that shouldn't be validated but is anyway, and your own answers being refused despite being correct.

Thus, the game is prompting you to play only with friends and with a room denying access to those not having a password... and again, even there, you may have a problem. I've played with Samurai Vader as I've asked him to be my partner in order to write a review (and he wrote one too). Suddenly, my watermelon wasn't validated as a fruit, despite myself and himself validating it. Even video games weren't validated when Final Fantasy and Far Cry were. Italy wasn't a country. I mean, I know that the themes are defined by the creator of the room. But we were both validating the answer and yet, we got 0 points. Sometimes, however, all were fine.

So, yeah, Stop Online, even if improving apparently with the language and the chat room during the game, which is better for communication, isn't really to recommend in this state. The concept is great but there should be at least something preventing players that aren't fair to others to validate stuff that isn't right. And perhaps correct that problem of validating. Seeing my answer being denied points when we both validated the answer - as Samurai explained in the thread he opened in the discussion.

With these non-enjoyable discoveries, I suppose that if I tell you that the game is lacking people online, you'll tell me that the game is buidling its community and I accept that. However, I've opened a French room and I got joined by something that didn't know anything about my language. How do you want to play fairly in that case? So yeah, the advise of the devs to play with friends only is making sense.

In this state and because my denied watermelon and our denied names for videogames that I don't accept at all when I know we were both validating and that it's something in the game that is doing that, nope, I can't recommend it in this state. When this problem will be solved, I'll change my review and thumb it up.

This is the old Facts in Five game I played as a kid. Unfortunately, you can only play online and thus you are at the mercy of the player base which is extremely low right now I was alone in the lobby for 20+ minutes.

I got this in a Groupees bundle for 50c and I really hope I get a chance to play and change my review, because I really want to like this game!

0/10 because there is nothing you can do if noone is online.

Stop Online - Battle of Words is a game that you have probably already played at primary school on paper. You have to think as fast as you can of word of given themes and with specified starting letter that's chosen randomly. Depending on originality and corectness of your answers, you get points - and after few turns, the winner is the one with highest amount of points.

What have I told you right now, is something the game itself doesn't tell you. I know it's mentioned in the Steam description, but as many people currently got this game for free (developers are giving away this game a lot to make at least a small active playerbase), many people doesn't know what to do and you'll have to explain it. There isn't any tutorial which is a big con considering there isn't anything complex to explain. Why the developers didn't make a minute long video explaining the gameplay and put it in the game? That would help many newbies for sure.

Anyway, there's one bigger problem - not newbies but the lack of players. From many times I've started the game, there were only one time I got to really play the game with random people who, in the end, weren't even playing seriously. There was a guy who answered "velociraptor" to everything and thought how funny he is. On the other hand, since the correctness of the answers is decided by players themselves, you may get rejected your answers even when they are correct - just because your opponents are salty or just want to win in any way possible.

That leads to me to thinking about the fact this game is worthy only to play within a group of friends who trust each other - but if you get such group of friends (who meet in real life), why don't you just go somewhere and play it on the paper, the good old way? Why would you have to use computers to play this? If this was a free browser game, it might definitely get more attention, but I don't think it's worth paying for Stop Online, with exception of people who can't meet each other in person.

Edit: I've tried it again with Vic=HKC= and we found that the word validation works weirdly in some cases. Even if both players validate some answers as correct, they can be marked as nonvalid somehow, not adding any points to player.

Disclaimer: My copy of Stop Online was obtained for free - I won the game in a giveaway that might have been sponsored by the developer. This fact hasn't changed my opinion about the game (and the review) in any way.

How fast can you type?
How fast can you think?
How many words can you think for seconds? or minutes?
How smart are you?

then Play this game, and challenge yourself to other people.
•think of a word that is capable for the Theme that is written.
•fill all the blank space as fast as you can.
•score the highest.

At the time of this review I have only played for about an hour and had a blast playing with my family!

We all worked together to come up with words that match with the starting letter and fit the topic.

The only thing bad is that a few people in some servers would uncheck everything that is not theirs, causing me/other players get no points for perfectly fine words!

When the lobbies are flowing, this game is fantastic. It's very simple to get a hang of and the devs seem pretty responsive which is always nice!
However, the small playerbase can cause issues with game flow and while the available translations are fantastic and show that work has gone into the game, it does segregate an already tiny population.

You make your own lobby if you want, selecting the language of the lobby, the time you get to type in and the various themes (up to 5) of your room. You can also set a password here if you want a private game, you blasted hermits.
The better themes are usually the broader ones, I made the mistake after playing the game for one match and went and made a room with themes like 'Words for thank you (in any language) because I am completely oblivious to everything logical in the world.

When the game starts a random letter will be raffled and you get to input your answers starting with that letter in each of the theme boxes. You only need to enter one in each box and once you've filled all five you can hit 'stop' to force end the round, potentially netting you more points.
The screen after this allows you to unvalidate/untick any answers that don't match themes.
On the scoreboard you can see how many points you can be awarded for answers at the bottom, if you manage to get the only validated word in a category you get the most, so hitting stop can really help you steal those points ;)

Prepare to have a few games where your brain just decides to fall out the back of your head, it's like being a rabbit in headlights sometimes, all while the peppy music loops in the background. Don't listen to the music though, finding a food that begins with X is srs bidniz, we all know this.

Occasionally you'll get lobbies with great themes such as 'Names for ♥♥♥♥♥' and 'Names for other flappy parts of the body', you usually encounter comedy gold in these lobbies.
While the low player count does slow things down a bit, I've been in full lobbies beforehand too and they seriously just melt your brain.
There's some issues that have been flagged up in the discussions and the devs are aware, so hopefully the population will grow as the game does :)

Fun when you have friends, but be warned - nobody, and I mean nobody, plays this online. The rooms are dead as a doornail.

At the start the game disappoints you by proudlly showing signs of Waiting For Players Sim 2017.

However, once you get some people, it gets wild and fun.
Your mind will go blank, as you will forget stuff about the themes you think you know a lot about.
Gives some little adrenaline when you try to speed type to be the one pressing STOP button.

Yes, the game might not be perfect and could use some improvements, but it still offeres enjoyable experience.

Picked up two copies of this on sale for a buck apiece on the Humble Store. Sounded like good, simple fun. However, the game doesn't have any preset categories, making the players do all the work. The scoring system is beyond my comprehension. You could just as easily play this game with friends in any form of instant messenger or online service with chat functionality. Use to pick random letters for you. You'll probably have *more* fun that way, since you won't get disconnected the second time you play and become unable to connect in all future attempts. Oh, and the lobby will probably be fuller.

Not worth a buck, never mind five; go find a more interesting, *free* game online somewhere.

Um incrível jogo que me faz lembrar da época de escola em que eu brincava de STOP com amigos durante as aulas, as vezes até com os professores.
Dá para criar próprio temas, tem um design simples e limpo.

10/10 chamaria galera pra jogar e dar altas risadas!

Good game, make sure you have a friend to play it with. Otherwise finding an online match can be a bit slow.

I applaud the idea, concept, product etc. In theory, this is a very fun game and I'd love to try it out!

As many other reviewers have pointed out, the game is unplayable without any players. Every time I logged in to try the game out, there is never more than 5 players online. And as each one seems to speak a different language and not a single one of them being known to anyone else, it's impossible to play this game.

I'd estimate the chances of getting your moneys worth for this game, regardless if you paid €5,00 or €0,01 for it, somewhere between zero and non-existant.

Great background tune though.

Stop. Do not buy this game, it's dead. Nobody's online, their page redirects back to this Steam store page. If you burn your money, you can at least watch the fire for a while - it's more fun than buying this dead game.

But you may ask "is this game good"? Well, I don't know, it's dead.
