What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“European Ship Simulator was our first foray into funding our own simulation title. We made a lot of mistakes along the way with that project; one being that we brought it out of Early Access too soon. Behind the scenes, we’ve been working on World Ship Simulator since January 2015. We will be launching with six boats and expanded upon features that the community had been asking for. Having learnt from our mistakes, we have offered everyone who purchased European Ship Simulator a copy of World Ship Simulator for free and we’re now at the stage in development where we can introduce an Early Access version to the ship simming community. We plan to allow the product’s direction to be driven by the Steam community and player feedback with a new development team.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The game is already extremely playable and we intend to further refine the core gameplay loop and increase the amount of missions, ships and content over the coming months. Our goal is to make World Ship Simulator the go-to ship simming title on PC and Mac. The game will be in Early Access for a minimum of six months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of World Ship Simulator will have implemented many suggestions from the community. The Early Access code is a working skeleton upon which we can refine to build the final game's content.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“World Ship Simulator contains six boats and a career mode which allows the player to complete a number of different jobs that, when successful, result in him/her being promoted in his sea faring career. They will be able to use earned money from completing jobs to repair vessels and purchase new ships.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We are considering a slightly higher price for the full release of World Ship Simulator after all of the features are finalized and implemented.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will be monitoring the Steam forums every day and closely following the comments and suggestions of the community. Followers of our Shoppe Keep page will know that we take our relationship with the community very seriously and invest considerable time answering questions and actioning suggestions wherever possible.”

Beta for Mod Tool and New Update

Hey everyone,

We are in the stages of releasing the Mod tool for World Ship Simulator that will allow players to add their own ships into the game. In order to activate this, you will need to enter into a new beta branch.

- Right click on World Ship Simulator in your library and select properties
- Select the Beta tab
- Use the drop down menu to select the Mod Tool Beta.

The Mod tool exe will download and will now be available in the game files. Along with documentation with a small walkthrough to help players start importing their ships.

Players who are not interested in creating new ships can still download other ships from players from Steam Workshop by activating the mod tool beta.

Included in the new update is a new ship! The Cruiser. Players will also be able to find another 3 new ships already on the Steam Workshop to test out as well. Just subscribe to any ship you want to try in the Workshop and it will be available to purchase in any Ship Store in game.

About This Game

Weigh anchor on the open seas and begin your career in the maritime industry. Start from humble beginnings with a single ship and complete a selection of jobs that earn you experience to take on more demanding opportunities with greater rewards. Use your earned cash to repair your vessel and purchase new ships.

  • Five ships to purchase with more to come during Early Access
  • An open world with no loading screens between ports
  • A career mode that will allow players to complete jobs to earn money and experience
  • Changing weather conditions including storms and fog that affects ocean wave height
  • Manipulate time to make those long treks across the ocean pass much more quickly
  • Crew on board the vessel
  • Leave your ship at port to accept missions

Providing a combination of speed and luxury, this vessel is well worth the price tag. Some of your best moments in this vessel will be cruising the sea without a care in the world.

This vessel can complete a variety of different jobs around the port. Sturdy, reliable and always in demand, you will always have something to do when you’re a captain of the port boat.

The bulk carrier is a massive ship tasked to transport loose cargo such as grains & coal across the world. It may not be the fastest ship on the ocean, but without her, logistical transport between countries will be very difficult.

Ships Coming Soon

The below images are work in progress renders of the hovercraft, fishing boat and tug boat. These will launch with the game in Early Access and will be textured soon.

Why would someone create one game which is garbage if you could make two of them, eh?

Reasons to my immature conclusion:
1. Un-optimized, a decent PC can barely handle it at lowest settings.
2. If you get it for free, that's good, real good, but if not, then don't bother coughing out any dough for this title just yet.
3. Most people might disagree on the claim I'm about to make, but I really think that ESS (European Ship Simulator) was far superior in being a proper ship simulator, it might have felt daft at first, I played it for 2 hours, and came up with the conclusion that it is garbage, but went back for a 2nd try, and almost enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed SS2008/SSE, and considering they well, scrapped a project competely, that did actually have some potential, just to start from scratch and have another go into the darkness and hope for the best is really quite unprofessional, which means that WSS might have the same fate as ESS.

First of all, it has to be said, this game is already a massive improvement on it's infamous predecesor..... that said, you can tell this is in early access stage, ok let's start with the bad....

-The night sky- This has no depth. I honestly think my grandmother could do a better job using MS paint and she can't even use a Nokia 3310!
- Land bird noises out at sea- I know this may sound petty, but really, whenever I have been out at sea (7 ferry journeys this year) I have not seen a single land bird. I understand they migrate twice a year, however, definitely see a lot more Gulls than I see Robins this is for sure
- Water coming through the front of the boat- This just feels unfinished as of yet so not overly concerned, however, realistic boat through water effects would be amazing.
-Very small world- I hope this will be increased in size massively, I am sorry but 3 or 4 ports will not cut it. In a Sim/Arcade game, size will mean everything, a great example is Euro Truck Simulator, dozens of unique towns
Working lighthouses- I dont think Ive seen a single Sim with a working lighthouse
-The lock/unlock function- whereas this may have its uses, I feel that you also need a semi-lock where the throttle will lock after pressing w/s and not have to use the mouse.
-Things I'd love to see implemented- buoys, realistic shore lighting, more boat animations

And now for the good...
-This game has playability potential- yes the missions may be missing depth, but it has missions, and a career structure, and I am not aware of any career structure in a ship sim to date.
-The water and boat lighting- the water looks pretty good, and at night with the light shining on it, I think looks even better
-The potential this game has, with the right additions, and ensuring the additions have quality, rather than throwing in rubbish, speedily created additions would help add to the games immersability.

I look forward to regular updates, and I actually believe with the right care and attention this will be a great sim. After playing for the short time I have, it feels very much like an early Euro Truck Simulator, and that is now probably one of the best sims out there. Keep up the good work devs, and I look forward to giving you more feedback!

What a hot mess.

Please note that this review is an initial, knee-jerk reaction to my first hour with the game, and I may revise it if things improve in the future.

To begin, I do not recommend this game unless you're either feeling self-destructive or you have $15 dollars of disposable income that you'd rather not set on fire, even after covering it in dog poop.

The game is being developed by none other than Exalibur Publishing, a bastion of few hits and many misses in the gaming world. After the failure of their previous entry into the world of giant boats and the sea, European Ship Simulator, it's back to the drawing board as Odin Game Studios does a redo and tries to make something that's playable and, well, not a gigantic turd sack. Will they succeed? Maybe, but things are not looking good.

The graphics look like they've come from a game made in 2001. I'm really not joking here. It's embarassingly bad. Ocean textures are awful (and not in the "full of awe" kind of way). There appears to be this horrible, radioactive-like film grain effect while on the open seas. The sky graphics, especially the stars at night, are blurry and extremely low resolution textures. They look terrible. And don't get me started on the harbor office!! The interior of which looks like it game out of a game from 1996. It's downright embarassing!! There are people walking around who are apparently at the harbor for some kind of balsa wood bridge building convention (and no, I'm NOT making this up!!). They also happen to be genetic clones, only forced to wear horribly different clothes as to not confuse each other. The women walk around like they've either just given birth in the women's restroom, they've just crapped their pants, or their thongs are on backward. I just can't get past the downright terrible graphics.

Gameplay itself is incredibly dull as well. Find the nice lady giving out the jobs, and she'll have to go to some fishing spots, or some other ports, or delivering cargo, the list goes on. The missions are insanely, mind-numbingly boring, and don't really offer anything beyond "go here, do that" on a flat surface (the ocean). At least we have the option to accelerate time, just so we can get through the pain more easily.

This game is so bad that I really don't even want to continue writing this review. I hate to be so brutally honest, but I'm afraid if I continue going on, I'll turn into Gordon Ramsey and really let myself go off the hook!

I DO NOT currently recommend this game. If it improves, I'll be sure to update my review to reflect those improvements. I'm really hoping that this game can eventually become a cash cow like Euro Truck Simulator, but so far it's not even 1% as good.

This is a great improvement over what it is replacing. I found it fairly easy to control, and a bit slow, but then? This sort of game should be slower, right?

Given the point it is at now as the starting place? I look forward to what it has coming.

Water and other graphics looked good to me until going to the Tourism port by Fast Travel. Then the water disappeared or showed my port boat as more of a submarine. Outside that (which didn't crash it, as I could still moor the boat to go into the harbor offices), it looked beautiful on Ultra settings.

Unplayable, unbelievably glitchy and the FPS averages about 5 with graphics settings at their lowest (I have just been playing Elite Dangerous at full quality, so it is not my setup).
Got this for free as I was stupid enough to but European Ship Simulator on release (it cost me £15 about a year ago), and I just feel offended that this is what is being offered in its place.
I have now deleted this and ESS and have absolutely no intention of re-installing.
This is an example of Steam (and developer) quality control being completely ignored.

Bullsh**t. This is not a simulator, this is a scam. Invisible walls, maneuverability which does not look like a ship...
Do not buy this thing.

This game is much better than the game it is replacing. I will say as the game is an alfa and is only on its first verison, the game is very far from being a game that is worth buying. The water is not the best looking, when moring it is hard to see the points of conections though the orange bubble, and the graphics on the highest setting looks very poor. I also had a glitch after leaving the game and coming back to it a few hours later a screen came up saying my boat is damaged and is needing repairs. I found this strange because I had not hit anything before hand and then to be charged $1000 in game money was not fun. Another thing that I think is bad is that when you are in the harbor office it still sounds like you are on the boat. There is no music or any back ground noise while in the office other than the sea. People in the office are weird and don't interact well. Missions are boaring and sometimes confusing to know what to do. They need to have a thing saying what the diffrent colors mean out side of the totorial. The money system is not very good as it would take many missions to buy any of the ships. The game is very hard to control while fast fowarding time, as it is very laggy and skips a lot.
Hope this helps people looking at the game. currently I would wait till further updates and more reviews to buy this game unless you are really into alphas or ships.

This is an archaic looking arcade game that doesn't even run at 60FPS on an FX-8350, R9 290, 16GB RAM PC.

I got it free after the Dev team for European Ship simulator gave up and the publisher found a new dev team.

This game is ugly in comparison. But at least i runs better than the 12FPS I got in European Ship Simulator.

My refund is on the way, and both of these games will be out of my library for good.

It would be more fun if you could use any boat/ship you want in free roam instead of spending all of your time fishing or something just to spend hours or days trying to save up and buy a cooler boat/ship. i bought this game thinking it would have a free roam where you could do that.

Very disapointing the tutorial went well but sadly I then had the sinking feeling. There is now a chracter in the game where you can walk around a small building to either choose to have freeroam or repair your ship or have a bank loan to buy other ships or begin a mission I began a mission with the tutorial port boat delivering small packages (cargo) started off well delivered 3rd package then went to the 4th package where I crashed into a invisible wall tried to get through no luck.
Thankfully I had this game free while they were building the game as I had preordered the European ship simulator I wouldnt recommend this game at all the graphics are terrible the ship control isnt great and these ship simiulator games seem to be getting worse as the developers progress on, the best for me was ship simulator 2008 since then it has been appaling.
This is my first review of a game I dont like reviewing games or films personally I like to make my own mind up but this BUG should be considered before purchase of this game. (who knows they might even fix it BUT the game is due for release this Friday 28 October the developers should have picked up on this its the first mission in the game).

This had so much potential when first announced and prior to the fact they changed engine, but now it is a complete let down and i would even go as far as saying Ship Simulator Extremes is better! Its a shame as i am waiting for the right release and thus this isnt it.

They need to improve the graphics and the fps because that is what makes the game bad atm. There is absolutly no diffrence between the "fast" graphics and the "ultra" graphics, on both the fps is still the same (around 30fps depending on the situation).

I got this game for free because I had european ship sim.

ATM I got to say:

WHAT is this? The game has invisible walls ... damn you ... ohh ok raise the anchor men.

The gameplay is fine, the physics seem real and every ship feels different. Ship models are decent, I just wish there were more of them (7 ships with the mod tool update). The game gives you 17 missions
which boil down to 4 scenarios: explore/fish the sea, move around the port, tow boat missions, big ship maneuvering missions. This game needs more scenarios more boats and to add some risk in storm conditions.

The graphics will surprise you for the better and sometimes for the worst. I think the game looks good for the most part in high settings. There are some bad land masses near the tourist port and some derpy graphics inside the port offices. (Pro tip: speed time up in the ports and have a look at the clones derp around).

The audio is immersive, rain, storm, different engine noises, and the long horn on the carrier is awesome. I wish the other ships would answer.

In conclusion if you are looking to chill on the open seas give this game a shot. This game is a 6/10 they need to fill it up with more ships, missions, and a career mode. I think the people that played only 10-20 min with the first boat and quit, missed out on the best part of this game which is ... (drum roll) ... playing with the carrier, I recommend it :)
