AquaNox is one of the best games I've played. Not a very strong story, ♥♥♥♥ty graphics for 2014, I'll give you that. But the amount of customization for the time it was released, the amount of different enemies and the freedom you had was really new for its time.

It's a masterpiece, just like Myst, just like Jak and Daxter, even if this game, AquaNox, is not so widely known. The mechanics work wonders.

Only a side note: If you have a high DPI mouse, be sure to set it on lower values, or try to get a patch for it, otherwise the game will go crazy with your mouse speed.

Great game: 7.5/10. Would buy it again (and so did I, I bought it the first time long before Steam was even a dream...)
Worth: 10 dollars.

An awesome, FPS-like game. Underwater action, and even now, you can't call this graphic "outdated" - after 13 years, it's still not that bad on maximal settings.
Game is really addictive, I've played it for the first time in 2003, in my childhood times. Now, when I play it, I still enjoy it really much.
It contains a campaign with about ~40 missions, 4 fast-battle maps and a multiplayer mode, so it will give you at least 10 hours of great gaming. Totally worth that price.
Also the soundtracks are awzum - while shooting all the enemies, you'll listen to "nightclub-great tracks" :3
Would recommend, 10/10, even 13 years after release.

I played this game way back in the day. It has always been a great game, FPS/Sim/Action all underwater.

My issue is not with the game itself but with the Steam version. Constant errors, crashes and glitches that were never present in the original game. It seems like any time I play an older game through steam it is plagued with errors like the steam code is broken.

So that issue aside, it is a great game...just be prepared for it to crash every hour or so...save constantly.

Extremely short, but pretty fun. Voice acting - absolutely terrible. The concept altogether though is cool.

Pretty fun game actually. Very difficulut personally. WHile the game is fun to play and has high replay value if you like this type of game the story is interesting but not powerful and the voice acting is terrible. I mean this game is still great but just in general this is a good but meh kind of game. I would give it 8/10 for Visuals, Voice Acting: 0/10, gameplay mechanics 9/10, fun 8/10, and instructions or tutuorials a fat zero as it doesn't show you how the hell you do anything so overall just a big 7/10.

Pros:
.Fairly pretty for an old game, despite its age.
.Soundtrack is hectic and enjoyable, if a bit repetitive.
.Blowing up enemy craft is satisfying and fun enough to keep one playing.
.Giant tentacle monsters are cool.

Cons
.Most light-craft enemies are almost impossible to hit, kiting your shots endlessly and zooming around outside of your vision.

.Torpedoes are a joke, a bad joke. While 1-hit KO'ing most enemies, their targeting is terrible. One often has to resort to firing even high-end torpedoes at point-blank range; despite this, they will often veer off at the last moment. It is a small mercy that enemy rockets are almost as bad at hitting you.

.Auto-lose conditions. Aquanox has DOZENS of missions to the tune of 'protect the transport' or 'kill the target before time runs out'. Dealing with veritable ♥♥♥♥ storms of enemy craft over and over again because you couldn't blow them up fast enough to protect your mark is the pinnacle of frustration.

.Incomprehensible story. The story of Aquanox is vague, at best. Add to this the frankly atrocious voice acting and sound balance so bad one often can't hear characters over background music, and you'll find yourself skipping most dialogue.

Final thoughts:
Aquanox is one of the most frustrating games I have ever played. I saw it through to the end on the promise of giant sea monsters, though not without suffering puke-inducing rage brought on by endless escort missions. While it's great blowing up easier-to-hit craft, the sheer annoyance of most of the story campaign kills the fun factor.

Its a older game so the sounf and graphicss are aged, vioce acting is crud and the dialoge in the cut scenes dont make much sense. The Mechanics of the combat is solid and the sontrols take alittle to get used to but its is a challanging and enjoyable game.

Very fun and addicting for such an old game! The Graphics are nothing ground-breaking though. One thing though that this game suffers from is ABSOLUTELY HORIBBLE VOICE ACTING!! The voices in this game sound like two devs manipulated their voice to form new characters. Other than that the game is fantastic.

Beautiful game, even though the graphics are getting dated.
Lots of fun. Terrible voice acting. Okay plot.

Plays mostly like a space shooter, under water.

World of Aqua. Full of pirate scum, bionts, crawles and squids. Good targets for mercenary Emerald "Dead Eye" Flint. Fights are fast and funny. Nice stylization in green color and obviously completely awesome looking undersea environment. Attempt for new conversation system did not fare best but it's still remarkable. One Tsunami Booster please. 79/100

Aged very well

Even though this game has been released 12 years ago, it still manages to capture the feeling of underwater Sci-Fi Combat in a great fashion. Its graphics are very colourful and atmospheric (and some may argue better than the graphics of its darker successor because of this), sound effects are satisfying and fitting.

The voice acting is mostly done pretty well, and the story is being told by well written conversations between lots of intriguing characters that are presented through well-drawn images in a fitting art style.

The combat itself is good, firing weapons feels satisfying, torpedos find their targets somewhat too rarely and the difficulty and length can vary greatly between missions, but overall the game manages to capture the feeling of fighting underwater very well.

The plot can be confusing at times and the cutscenes between chapters of the game are of lackluster quality for some reason, but nonetheless I enjoyed my playthrough a lot.

I you liked games like freelancer, and generally prefer action over realism and rpg-elements, this is for you.

Considering the very low price you can get it for these days, I recommend picking this game up for a few hours of submarine action, and if you do happen to like it, you may also take a look at the great sequel.

The setting is certainly unique, with a cyberpunk, dystopian world set UNDER DA SEA. While conversations are far too numerous and often serve no more than cyberpunk cliche fluff (Drugs! Genetic engineering! Megacorps!), the main storyline and missions make great use of the underwater setting and world that's been created. The gameplay, however, felt slow, clunky, with little or no strategy involved. A lot of strafing and leading shots, and outfitting your ship often feels like just buying the most expensive equipment and unleashing hell. The menus tease at a Freelancer style roaming world where you can jump between stations and find side-missions and do trading and the like, but for the most part you're railroaded onto a series of missions to complete, and odd visits to the shop. It clearly has an emphasis on action style shooting than swift maneuvarability, smart outfitting, and working with wingmen. I found it far too slow and boring to venture beyond the third chapter, and escort missions are a nightmare. Which is a shame, I cared for the story, characters and progression I could have made, but doing missions was just very, very boring, even with a thumping techno soundtrack that's right at home in the late 90s.

Unique post-apocalyptic submersible shooter. Nicely voice narrated dark cyberpunk story. Modern GPU features and high resolutions can be enabled which make this game look very good for a game released in 2001.

I remember when I played this way back when it was released. Good memories!
It is still a lot of fun to play, but you might need to fiddle around a little to get it to work properly on recent hardware
(there is a bug with the usb polling rate of modern usb mouses).
Non the less once you get it to work you'll have plenty of fun!

A good shooting game which is underwater in the very far future. I have no idea what the people are saying when they yap on in the dialogue but I understand some of what happens in the action scenes. Out of nowhere you get to fight giant squids which makes you really wonder what the ♥♥♥♥ is happening, but you should buy it if you like old shooting games.
