What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We want to enable our community to play-test the game as early as possible to help us improve the game-play experience. Being an online social game, it is crucial to test the game's multiplayer functionality on a large scale.

Early Access will contain all of our core systems: the basic chat and a few attractions, so that we can refine and improve the user experience before full release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“3 months”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Early Access is restricted to our Arcade Plaza; a Bowling Alley and Amusement Arcade.

The full version will feature a lot more content once the doors are open to the Theme Park itself, and even the content within the Arcade will be added to throughout the Early Access program. The final game will be therefore be much more polished and tested, with a lot more variety of content.

We currently have 5 mini-games in progress which will be added to the game gradually during early access, and we will continue to add more attractions once the Park is fully opened.

Avatar Customization, including a host of wardrobe and accessories, Private Spaces, Rides, and more activities are all planned to be added once the full version is released.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The final game will be free-to-play when it launches, with some in-game commerce.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will invite users to give us their feedback on our forum ( Also we have voluntary moderators in-game, who will relay users' feedback up to us.”

DevBlog #39 – Spooky things are coming to Atom Universe!

Firstly, we would like to start off with an apology. During last our DevBlog, we mention that a new patch (v0.4.5.4112) with a lot of awesome new features would be getting released sometime this week. Unfortunately, we’ve had to delay this patch for now (we hope you can forgive us)…We’ve got a couple of extra things we would like to try and sneak in before we release this new patch, but we’re working around the clock trying to get everything ready for the Halloween Holiday!

While we’re waiting for the new patch let’s take a closer at some of the new gear that’s coming out. As part of our Halloween DLC collection, your avatar will be able to wear some ghoulishly new accessories including:

  • An axe wedged into your avatars head
  • Succubus ears (in the shape of bat wings)
  • A pointy witch hat
  • A long crooked witch nose
  • Replace your avatar’s hand with a chainsaw
  • Head mask carved out of a pumpkin
  • A full-body skeleton suit for both male and female avatars
  • Lastly, a skull face mask

Premier members will also receive some skeleton wings and a sinister skull mask!

DevBlog #38 – Japanese and Medieval DLC are now available in NA

Oh my, it’s been awhile since our last Block Party… So, we think it’s time to get another one started! We’ll be doing things a little differently this time. To celebrate the release of our Japanese and Medieval Packs, we’ve come up with a little game.

Over the course of this weekend, we’ll be playing "Where is Guide-o?" (we know that put a smile on your face). This, of course, is a classic take on the "Where’s Waldo?" game. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to find our in-game Guides. If you manage to find one of our guides (you know, those avatars with the floating ‘I’ above their head), you have to ask them the following question “Are you Guide-o?”. If you’re lucky, you’ll be prompted to answer a question by the guide; answer correctly and you could win a cool prize! But you’ll have to be fast! It’s one prize per guide…

So what’s up for grabs?

  • One month’s Premier Subscription
  • The Japanese or the Medieval pack (choose wisely, you can only select one pack)
  • 1000 Atomz

If you’re one of our lucky winners your reward will be added to you account on October 10th, 2016.

Patch v4.5.4112 coming soon

As work on Atom Universe continues, another patch is currently in the pipeline. And it’s very likely that it’s going to live over the course of next week. However, we can share our what’s new and what changes have been made:

  • Create PlayStation Parties for the Atom Universe PlayStation 4 Community and join other community members in-game.

Don't play this NOW. First of all, I would reccomend this game when it's 40-80% done. This game doesn't lie when it says that's in Early Access. The only thing you can do right now is go bowling and change your avatar.

Niko would be proud.

I was an avid PS Home user since 2008 and see a lot of the spirit of PS Home in Atom Universe (AU). The creators of AU, Atom Republic, previously created content for PS Home, but after PS Home was shut down in March 2015, they asked the community what they should do next and the overwhelming response was to build a new virtual world as a successor to PS Home and hence the idea of Atom Universe was born. Atom Republic had a Kickstarter campaign for the game in April 2015 to help fund the development of the intial release which was successful. Atom Republic has partnered with several former 3rd party developers for PS Home such as Engine Giant, Game Mechanics, JAM Games, PS Talent (of which I am a long time member), and more to come. Patrick O'Luanaigh, CEO of nDreams, was also made the AU team's non-executive director during the summer of 2015. He has referred to Atom Universe as "the successor to PS Home." Since PS Home's closure, many former PS Home developers have created their own game, but Atom Republic is the only one to have partnered with others. The game is developed with Unreal Engine 4 and features amazing realistic graphics and supports cross-play between PC and PS4 with the potentional to be supported on other platforms (Mac, XBoxOne, etc.), including future ones, e.g. PS5. The game will also support Virtual Reality with such headsets as PlayStation VR for PS4 and Oculus Rift for PC. Atom Republic has been very responsive to feedback from its community and IMO done an excellent job with this project. As a reward for my donation level to the game's Kickstarter that I mentioned, I was given the opportunity to test the Alpha version of the game, which I have been doing for several months now. During this time, I have seen a lot of progress made on the game's development as new features have been added and various bugs fixed. The Early Access version was just made available to backers of the project this past Saturday, February 27, which includes a space which we have not seen in the Alpha called Arcade Plaza. Here's a promotional video that shows what the Arcade Plaza looks like: The Early Access version will later be made available to the entire Steam Community but until then, backers like myself will continue to test it. Whether you are looking for a successor to PS Home or a new realistic social game/virtual world in which to play then Atom Universe is for you. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS GAME!!!

There isn't really much to say about this game, because there isn't actually anything to do. You can litterly only do bowling, and sit on some chairs. For a game that's supposed to come out in 3 months, it's really concerning. Everything is either coming soon or a concept art gallery. You can colour your avatar too so that's cool I guess, but there is nothing to do.

Just one question for the devs:
Why would you release a game in this state? It's basically committing steam suicide.

Quick side note: Game runs fine on high for me, running an R9 290 at ~60fps most of the time, but really, for a game with this little to do, it should run fine.

This should be in an independent alpha-- not on Steam yet. This is too early for the early access program, in my opinion. There's almost 0 functionality at this point; I really feel it's going to be detrimental to the 'game' overall to have it get all the negative buzz it's going to get during early access in this state.

I am a former ps home veteran and let me tell you one thing. Even though it is an early access game, it looks way better than ps home did in its early days. as of right now there is no lag in the connection server and the graphics are good as well. this social/virtual game has so much potential. patience is needed by my fellow playes. The developers can make this better then anything you've seen.

This game should be labeled "Way Too Early Access". These devs should have waited until they had more content before going live.

Though the game is in Alpha phase it has some promise, needs alot of work still but if your looking for a Social game this will be that in time. There is alot to do once the finished copy comes out.

As for recommending it i cant say as its not a finished product.

Hello, and I'd first like to say I was a big member of the Playstation Home community. Recently I just got a nostalgia trip and decided to give this Atom Universe a go, especially since it's free.

Now, then, here's the criticism.

- Made by Atom Republic, I.E. people who made some of the higher quality third party products for Playstation Home
- Newer graphics engine compared to Playstation Home.
- Cross platform and able to work on PC and PS4
- Free
- Online
- You can JUMP
- Launches on PS4 recently, which shows some sort of promise of improvement for the near future.

- No real run/walk toggle. You run like a maniac and the speed outweighs the animation, meaning you glide too much.
- No avatar customization involving the body/face. You're either a buff guy that looks like Jack Black or an Amazon woman.
- Character setup has poor lighting to make decent judgement when altering color for skin, hair, and default apparel.
- No home/pause menu tab using the esc key. Playstation Home had some sort of neat pause menu like pulling out a tablet
- Sound doesnt travel well. For example, the music radius in the club public space has an intense cutoff.
- Very little free or purchasable content, but somehow there's DLC microtransaction content for those who are either gullible or impatient. Who knows if the project will disband and leave those who put money into it in the dust?
- Bowling minigame apparently costs money or theoretical money.
- Unstable server connections. You may get critical errors and crashes here and there.
- Really not much else to do other than chat a bit, use dancing animations, and go to one other public server/zone/space

To sum this up, the game is still a very early access. It's exactly what it says. I don't recommend putting any money into their one or two microtransactions yet, because who knows if they'll abandon the project or not, but since faith and hope are free, you can have as much of that to your heart's content. Since the PS4 launch came out recently, it shows that there's still a chance for improvement, however, there's heavy competition afoot from other 3rd party developers who helped in the Playstation Home experience, such as the Four Kings Casino, which seems to look the most like PS Home, if not using many of its assets, and Big City Stories, a more somewhat in-depth simulator with some social aspects.

The foundation of Atom Universe itself is there, as if you were beta testing an engine rather than a videogame, but there's no actual content to truly experience. Your best options are to give it a try just to see how it feels, and then play the waiting game, hoping more stuff is released in the future. Even though the cons outweigh the pros, I'll give this a thumbs up, because there's a chance of this evolving, and that the description holds some integrity.

So far so good. At first I didn't like the game mostly because there were no players. You will notice there are more players than before, and mostly PS4 users. I'm happy to see development working on increasing fps and decreasing lag. I have some requests for the PC version that the development team should implement before the games release:

- Further graphics optimization (Forcus on this before clothing and subscriptions)
- Options menu (Being able to invite players and switch locations)
- Some dances look really unnatural
- Being able to control the time in the hub
- The stars for the backers show in daytime

This is what I can think of so far. Otherwise, everything looks great and looking forward to the final version.
