1.0.0.16: Sign-In Screen and UAC popup support

Hello everyone,

The new feature for this update is the ability to run CC on the signin screen and during those pesky UAC popups.

This update also includes a fix for workshop support which had been broken by an earlier SDK update. I apologize for the delay in getting this issue fixed. I'll strive to fix these sort of breaking issues faster in the future and have already made some changes to my pipeline to allow me to do that.

Full patch notes are:

  • Fix for Steam Workshop "None" error
  • New option to run on the Sign-in screen and during UAC popups.
  • Added a new start button option for Xbox One controllers.
  • Fixed an issue with "Show as In-App in Steam"
  • Fixed an issue with the chatpad driver that could cause buttons to get "stuck"

About This Software

Use your controller even when you're not in-game or in Big Picture.
Never leave the couch when using a controller with PC. Control mouse, keyboard and media player. No more getting up to muck about with mouse and keyboard to launch the game you wanted to play.

Mouse and Keyboard Control on the Desktop
When Big-Picture is not running, you can control the mouse with the left thumbstick and scroll with the right thumbstick.

Click the left thumbstick and you get keyboard input directly on the desktop with a nice arcade-style keyboard spiral.

Turns off your wireless controller when you turn off your PC
Never again will you have to pop out the battery to turn off the controller when you turn off the PC. (Only Xbox 360 Controllers)

Very Low CPU usage
Controller Companion makes sure to stay in the background and use as few resources as possible. It will also disable itself as soon as Big Picture is running.

Switch between PC and TV displays
Switch between your connected monitors or TV screens with the controller.

Use Controller as a Media Remote
Control your music player with the controller using Y for Play/Pause and the shoulder buttons for Previous and Next track.

Customization
You can remap the buttons.

Freqently Asked Questions:

Does it work with Xbox One and Wired Xbox 360 Controllers?
Yes, it works with any controller that is supports XInput.

Why did it stop working when playing fullscreen video?
Controller Companion auto-disables for fullscreen programs, you can override it by holding back and start. See the video above about Auto-Disable.

Will running this app show me as "Playing Controller Companion"?
No! Controller Companion will launch through Steam and then run in the background.

Do I need to have Steam running to use Controller Companion
No, you can even set Controller Companion to automatically start when you start your PC.

Is there any kind of DRM in Controller Companion?
No.

Can I use my PlayStation controllers?
No, not without installing an XInput wrapper.

System Requirements

    Minimum:
    • OS: Windows 7
    • Additional Notes: Also required is an XInput compatible controller. If you have a wireless Xbox 360 controller you'll also need an Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver.

Controller Companion crashes out so often i can not use this at all. my pc is running windows 10 with a I7 6700+ gtx 970 8 gigs of ddr4 ram.
it really bums me out because this programs allows me to use my 360 chatpad on the pc(if it didnt crash out all the time). i hope i can get this figured out because i want to use this program. i would use this alot , but because it crashes/freezes up every few mins of use, im forced to stick with Xpadder. (EDIT) i uninstalled the driver for the chatpad and it seems to be working great now.

App seems to be designed for using when you are not in game. Looks like there is a way to make profiles, not sure if it load them with the game.

I am a long time user of Magpie(for Wii controller support!!), joy2Mouse, Xpadder, and the best of them all, but the hardest to use: Pinnacle Profiler.

The keyboard things could turn out to be useful for setting up a completely keyboard and mouse free setup. I am a PC gammer though. Most games require me to use both controller and keyboard. Wish there was an option to change that to a QWERTY matrix. It is faster for me to type my name in the 1980's classic Legend of Zelda, but I have been doing that since I was 15 years old.

I have no real complaints... Just sort of a "meh" application. I can do the same functionality with lots of free apps, except the spiral keyboard thingie.

Hope the developer follows Xpadders leed in the config layout.

Giving the thumbs up because most people do not have the other applications I mentioned. And for $2.00 I can't be too salty, it might find a use in my pile of utilities.

Who knows, maybe my $2.00 vote will inspire the developer to keep on adding to this, or maybe I will get a price break on future controller applications.

Right now I have the Xbox controller X setup to load Pinnacle for my ingame profiles. Application will run with other mouse emulators, but it is probably not a good idea. (set pinnacle to be OFF in windows mode and to only use the Ingame automatic profiles, otherwise they will overlap each other, and you will get inputs from both)

Tl;Dr app is only $2, will do everything it says on the box. If you dont already use a utility like this it may interest you. Keyboard thing is cool, and most other mouse emulators dont have them (you have to summon the microsoft virtual keyboard, and use mouse emulation)

10/10 Simple product. Somewhat easy to use, might see improvements in the future.

Works great, even on a dated processor like mine the impact is almost unnoticable.

Thanks to this app, I can actually launch my Bethesda games from Big Picture, because Valve couldn't bother adding a feature to bypass launchers. Hell, I don't even need big picture anymore.

Bought this for the main reason of interested in what it can do, so far this weekend ive discovered its true potential that I no longer have to site up in my armchair when I want to pause or adjust a video, or if i need to quickly change the internet tab from youtube to my emails. I no longer have to lean up and starin myself in typing a message when I can sit back and use the slower, but easier keyboard input from the controller. Overall this has made my life much less taxing and every day is like a dream. 10/10

Can now do pretty much anything on my PC on my Xbox controller, including writing this review. For $3, might be the best thing I've ever bought on Steam.

You know how some games have launchers that don't support controller in Big Picture mode, even if the game itself does? No longer a problem.
