About This Game

Undead Shadows is a fast paced action zombie shooter that keeps players on their toes and tests their survival instinct. You are a survivor in the harsh post apocalyptic world looking for any means of survival against never ending waves of zombies from sun up to sun down – and even worse in between.

You can scour the city and country side looking for weapons, food and other survival items to help you stay alive just 1 wave longer. You can play with up to 3 other people over multiplayer or over a local LAN for co-op.

Each level gives the players access to an array of weapons to help fend off the fast moving zombies and the deadly giant spiders that creep up on you when the sun goes down. Everything from a head-exploding shotgun, to high powered sniper rifles as well as machine guns and rocket launchers to mow down hordes at a time.

As you kill zombies they drop money for you to pickup and use to upgrade your firepower and build defenses to help slow down the waves. Each level features a hardware store with access to wood and barbed wire to allow players to create blockades and defenses to keep zombies out and players alive for just a little while longer.

If you’re lucky, a dead zombie will drop a money bag which gives you enough funds to purchase higher powered weapons; Or they may drop the rare but very powerful airstrike radio which gives the picking up player access to a one time strike from 2 supersonic F16’s that drop highly advanced weapons that kill all zombies that are alive at the time.

With leaderboards and statistics tracking, Undead Shadows allows you to compete with your friends for bragging rights on the highest number of waves you’ve lasted as well as how many kills and headshots you’ve posted on the Undead.

This game is comparable to the likes of The Slaughtering Grounds and A New Reckoning (or, Time Ramesside as it’s now called). For those uninterested in my video review, I have compiled a ‘small’ summary of issues I found with it just below...

My FULL video review:

- Lacklustre and unresponsive gameplay.
- Terrible AI that simply charges your position without a second thought.
- Repetitive horde game-mode.
- ONLY 2 maps! (they are relatively small in the scheme of things)
- Terrible optimisation, sometimes as low as 10FPS for no apparent reason.
- Awful graphics, comparable to PS2 ‘quality’.
- Poor level design with glitchey terrain.
- Clunky and generic UI.
- Stock animations and poor models for zombies.
- Frequent crashes when finishing a game or alt-tabbing out.
- And soooooo much more...

My first impressions:

I don't understand why this game exists, and I don't even mean for that to sound harsh. I got this in a bundle and read reviews, and it sounded so awful that I wanted to be apart of it, knowing full well why I shouldn't. But it was a zombie wave game, there's not much originality left in it, but I suppose someone could come along and change the game. It's been done before, and it sure as hell can be done again.

So, right away, I have to make an account. Wait wait wait, pump the brakes. For what? The multiplayer is broken right now, what in the world do I need an account for? Well, leap of faith. Account made. Let's just configure this thing and... the dropdown box for "effects" has no values in it. That's... concerning. But, giving it a benefit of a doubt, right? Let's play a game then, 2 maps to choose from. Okay, maybe replayability makes it fun? Maybe it's randomized, that would be cool. I learned later that, no, it really wouldn't. Within the first seconds of the game, I realized what I had gotten myself into. The graphics, while very bad, could have been worse. After all, I'm usually not one to judge by looks alone, so I decided to try and make a good run.

Crowbar in hand, I use the old training method where you run in a line and small circles to gather up the zombies. Great, it works, so at least the AI is decent? Wrong. Turns out, you can just walk in a straight line, look back and m1 all of the zombies to death. Okay, but there's a lot of them, surely this method wouldn't last forever? Again, wrong. The only reason why I didn't put an engagement ring on that method is purely because it takes forever, seeing as though they add more zombies as you progress through the rounds. As I was trying to find a place to stay still, I realized I never tried jumping on an object, like a car. So I did. And I stayed there the entire game.

The reason why I chose this foolproof situation is because the AI is so bad, they'll clump up together in an effort to grab you even though they can't, and you can just crouch and whack them with whatever tool they started you out with. My actual gamewinning strategy was to run to the gunstore, buy a rocketlauncher, jump on the barricades via other platforms, and began the simple process of gather, shoot, collect, repeat. Every other item was rendered useless with this method. Flashlight or nightvision? Why, when you can just turn the gamma up. Health? You're not even being hit, why waste your time? ATV or other vehicle? That perch is now your life, no vehicle can change that.

I could have gone an infinite amount of rounds that way, but the glitches got the best of me. T-posing zombie models floating around, zombies getting caught on objects and moonwalking in random locations, only moving when I shot at them, and the gamebreaking spiders. There are big old hairy spiders in this game, and they're the most useless wastes of polygons. At one point, a spider froze in a parking lot and I had to kill it to advance to the next round. I apparently didn't get that it was an omen, so I thought nothing of it and resumed, only for a spider (I assume) later to freeze somewhere hidden that I was unable to find, making it impossible to progress anymore through the game.

Would I have kept on playing hadn't the big ♥♥♥ spider bugged (huehue) out? Maybe, but only because the (broken) leaderboard of the (broken) multiplayer aspect said that the highscore was 19, and I was already on 12 with 100% health. I wanted to like this game, mostly because I paid for it, and it just didn't happen. If you're actually reading this and on the fence about buying it, please don't. And if you're the developer of this game, why did you do this. You have plenty of time to fix this, I assume. I understand if you're not the best at making games, and this was just a fling, but this is kind of insulting. People spent money on this, and I feel like you don't care about that at all. If you did, you would make a patch trying to fix everything wrong with this game, but deep down we all know you're not gonna do that.

Are you kidding me with this? Slaughtering Grounds has a successor.

Glitches all over the place. Crashed 4 times. AVG REMOVED IT THINKING IT WAS A THREAT TO MY COMPUTER. It was: to my sanity. This game doesn't deserve any sort of praise, it's nothing but horror and disappointment. Not fun, and plain stupid. Looking into stolen assets, as there is some weird blood patterns on the wall. Also, got into a situation that literally halted the game in terms of being able to play.

Video and gameplay footage: This is absolutely a nightmare. http://youtu.be/-X35h8nD9nM

Pre-Release Review

Undead Shadows is a wavebased zombie-and-other-monsters-from-minecraft-deflection simulator by Ignition Games.

The video review is here(warning! explicit langauge):

To make it short: I have found 18 reasons for you to not buy this game that are explained more elongated in the video. Here I will keep myself short and simply list those reasons:

1. The game has No Controllersupport even though it features partial controller support on the store page.

2. There are pretty much no steam features integrated into that game.

3. Because of reason number two, they have an own online service, that sends out no confirmation mail when registering... dogdy.

4. This game needs an internet connection for a singleplayer game with a multiplayer component. It's no always online system, but that doesn't make it any better.

5. The game has no FOV slider! Luckily for them the standard FOV is 90, so the problem is not that bad.

6. There is almost no variety in the game. You have two enemy types, two maps, 7 weapons and 4 building items... not impressive.

7. It is ressource intensive(~1.5-1.8 GB of RAM in singleplayer) for no good reason.

8. The game features an atrociousely dumb AI. Enemies can't even walk up ramps!

9. Due to reason number 8 it happens that zombies can get stuck anywhere and the duration of a round gets dragged out immensely.

10. The system of Airstrikes is a borked, random, overpowered thing that has no good reason to exist.

11. The game is highly illogical. Explosives don't hurt you and you need to buy everything in a zombie infested area... from whom exactly?

12. The game performs very badly. The framerate frequently drops below 30 on a system with superior hardware than the recommended specs!

13. The Texture Quality is abyssmal.

14. The gunplay is way below COD-level of simplicity.

15. The Building mode UI and handling is horrendous.

16. The game crashes often. Additionally it features no clean releasing of resources.

17. The game doesn't save stats when leaving game without dying.

18. The game is really easy. Either camping or backpaddling away from zombies is the way to go!

Do yourself a favor Buy Yet Another Zombie Defense or Killing Floor and you spend your money better than that.

This game is like somesort of early alpha test. I cant recommend paying money for it.
Every time I played this, I stayed alive not until I died from Zombies but until the game crashed. If you take screenshots with Steam, it mostly crashes but even if you dont take screenshots random game crashes occur often but more likely at later rounds when alot is happening.
I wanted to see how far I could get. At round 23 the game crashed again the last time I played it.
The gameplay itself has hardly any challenge, you can outsmart all enemys by simply jumping onto a car, staying in the middle of it and you´re invincible. Then you just hit or shoot the dumb enemys that gather and glitch around infront of you, collect the cash or other items that they drop and you will have a short amount of time between rounds to buy weapons, ammo, health and more if you can find these. Repeat this for a few rounds until the game crashes, thats basically the whole game. Also dont walk too close to some tents or other objects as you might get stuck in them. Great fun !
I bought this game mainly because I wanted to try out another zombie survival game with a friend, it clearly states on the store page it has multiplayer. This is untruthful as it IS NOT possible to join each others games. So I think its false advertising and until it has a functioning multiplayer this claim should be removed from its store page as it has only Singleplayer. In its unfinished state it should be an Early Access title but it isnt.
Although even with these flaws there are things in the game I liked, big maps you have to investigate so you can buy different weapons, build things for protection, use night vision goggles or an airstrike and more to your advantage against the hordes of zombie enemys (and spiders), at first this seemed an ok-ish game, but you´ll notice quickly that overall its a dissapointment at this time. If this game had co-op/multiplayer and wouldnt crash every 10 minutes and if it were a lot more challenging by maybe adding enemys that can climb cars too or something (after fixing the issues with the current enemys) and other new content like maps but I think first the improvements should be directed to the main gameplay, movement controls, framerate, preventing the crashes and so on. This current version, 1.05, will need a lot of work, in my opinion its an unfinished game that claims to have multiplayer and is pointless to play not just because of the lack of challenge but because one knows it will just crash every time. Also I forgot the password to the first profile I created for the game, there seems no recovery option anywhere yet. But the game crashes before you can die anyway.
Some photographic evidence of my monitor when the game crashed the last time I played it, http://s24.postimg.org/sgircqtut/P1000322.jpg , http://s7.postimg.org/u7a91fewr/P1000326.jpg , the game froze as usual, then the error reporter box opened up.
So theres no fun to be had in playing this unless it gets a major update.

Froze upon initial load screen, then I'm looking at a bunch of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ textured trees. Says "Push E to Start the Game", so I do so and, for some reason I teleport to a low poly restaurant. That's when I see counter ticking off and realize I'm playing a tower defense game...or something.

Zombies drop money when you kill them. Why? I guess because making money in the usual way that survivl games do things was too complicated. There were a bunch of apples in that restaurant, each worth $100 which you apparently just leave on the shelf for whoever was kind enough to set this one room in a pizza place up with apples.

This game has an identity crisis going on, ♥♥♥♥ graphics, ♥♥♥♥ model animations, and a variety of other issues. Total NOPE. Glad it was in some bundle I bought just for the better games that were in it.

Now THIS is some real ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥T!

Negative Points

- Exactly what you expect when you watched the trailer.

- Awful and buggy.

- There is no "Artificial Intelligence" in this game.

- Just ♥♥♥♥, please kill me.

- Of course this game is full of bugs you cant even close the game without making it crash. Just too many bugs to name them here..

- Dead (OF COURSE)

- Account registration at the start is always ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t for a steam game. Well it doesnt work anyway so you have to use the guest account function.
- Menu is just a 0815 overlay and dont work properly.
- Only 3 garbage maps

so i know what everyone is thinking ( why is this dude playing this god awfull game anyways ?? ) well heres my simple theory and answer to everyone yes some games are generic and yes this is just a generic zombie game but honestly its not that bad if you give it a chance and put some thought into it ( like there are times where developers are inactive but then again you never know tthey might become active again

final jury on my thought 6/10
