This is a very simple twin-stick game that has uninspired gameplay and a poor excuse for humor. Even the Steam Achievements aren't very interesting... However, it does offer a large array of hardcore metal and rock music, so if that's your thing, then you'll probably enjoy this game. If not, though, this game is probably not something you'll want to pick up at full price.

Just buy the great metal soundtrack instead

As a metal fan I found the presentation to be fantastic, it has black metal cheese all over it, the characters look metal as ♥♥♥♥ and the soundtrack is kickass. But what makes this game just fall apart is the gameplay and some technical issues.

First off the gameplay is so bland and cookie cutter standard, the power ups are nice but only last for a short time and don't drop fast enough, there are not enough power ups, you move way to fast and keep knocking into enemies, some enemies are hard to see since they are so small and you die so quickly since your shields hitbox is absolutely huge and after it runs out it's just a matter of time before you accidentally run into an enemy because of the crazy movement speed. And excluding the issues I had with the power ups the game also lacks a lot of content, there's just a handful of bland boring maps and the fun cool characters all play the same but I've heard that the tank that you unlock at 1.000.000 score plays differently but I'm not gonna sit and play this game for that long. So you just choose your boring map, choose your cool but boring character and then top it off with an awesome metal track, every game plays like the one before and they last so shortly because of the issues listed above.

And now to the technical issues I had with this game, first off the game don't start on my main monitor and it took some time before I figured out how to move it over to my main screen since there is no option to change what monitor the game is played in. And the other problem I had is that you can't switch off controller support without plugging out your controller, and having a huge desk with a huge setup with a lot of wires that's pretty annoying just to play a simple cheap game.

Now I could live with the technical issues but because of the lack of content and bad gameplay design this game is just a no for me, if the gameplay was improved on with a bunch more power ups that don't run out instantly, the ridiculous speed gets fixed and more content then I might consider picking up this game again since I just love the theme and the presentation.

+Awesome metal music
+Fantastic theme and presentation

-Technical issues
-Lack of content
-All the characters play the same
-Bad gameplay
-Not kvlt enough

A pretty standard twin stick top down shooter.

What sets it apart is the glorious metal sound track. If you are a fan of metal, you'll love this.

"Death Metal, funny characters and a million of kills"
Sure, it's only a plain topdown dogde & shoot Unity game. But it makes quite fun to chase some records on leaderboards and tryout the different maps and funny characters. Play with death goat, granny in a wheelchair, sexy witch or alien kitten on 3 different maps. Use bombs and some powerful weapons & shields. All under the atmosphere of brütal death metal. The crystal clear graphics of splitup or skeletonized bodies are just brilliant. The gameplay can still be very improved. Also the 1 Mio kills achievement took me a while.

Death Goat:

Whether you are a goat, a witch or a granny, you have to survive as long as you can in this epic arcade action game!
Death Goat is a top down arcade action/survival type of game where you have to push back waves of enemies until you die! Basically you need to last as long as you can and score as many points as possible!!

At the start of the game, you will have to choose between 3 different battle arena (map), then you will be presented with several characters: Death goat (of course), a witch, a kitty, a tank (when you reach 1,000,000 points) and my favourite, the granny (I always used to see my grandmothers as nasty witches, I loved them!!)! The aim of the game is to survive as long as you can by pushing back the incoming enemies waves!

You will be equipped with a shield (protection orb) and a wand at the start to eliminate all incoming foe, but be assured you will have other great weapons to help you to survive to the next wave! But will it be your last?

What I like about this game its setup as an arcade game and it is unforgiving…fun…fun! And if you like heavy metal music, you will be well served with 14 available tracks which fit this game perfectly! It is absolutely hectic stuff!

- Fun and challenging top down arcade game
- Several characters to choose from
- Achievements and trading cards

- A bit repetitive

Death Goat is a fun and hectic top down arcade game…. Hard and truly addictive!

Guts, gore and Death Metal!

Inverted crosses, burning pentagrams, walking skulls with spider legs, sexy half-naked demoness, and most of all - tons of great music to accompany the senseless, yet glorious mayhem, "Death Goat" has it all in spades. If you love extreme music and appreciate the imagery, this one is no-brainer and deserves its place in your Steam collection.

"Death Goat" is a bare bones twin-stick shooter where you are put against the endless waves of enemies. Using controller is recommended, but not mandatory. There is little variation to it, but you wouldn't notice, as your life expectancy oscilates around 2 minutes. This is clearly a type of game to be enjoyed in short bursts.

On a technical side: graphics are beautifully drawn. Game stability could be improved a bit - it can crash on occasion. Fortunately, it happens during startup or in the menus, not during the actual gameplay (at least in my experience). This is a minor problem and easily forgiven considering it's in Early Access. Music is one of the game main assets, obviously, and it doesn't disappoint (note for purists: majority of the music is not necessarily Death Metal, but it gets the job done). There are several tracks to choose from and - another good news - developers are willing to expand the catalog in the future.

OK, I did my job as a reviewer, now's your turn - go grab your weapon and KILL THEM ALL!!!

Even though I have a "mere" 1200+ games in my Steam library, oft-times I wonder when and how I purchased most of them. The other day I was doing a little spring-cleaning, and stumbled over Death Goat. I don't remember getting this game, but whatever. Maybe my Steam account has become sentient, and it's just adding games on its own.

It's more likely that I recieved this game as part of an indie bundle, but why should I bore you with facts?
I'd rather bore you with opinions instead.

Death Goat is a pretty cool little game. You're trapped in the 19th circle of Hell, and there's no chance of survival. All you do is slaughter demons until you run out of lives. Over time, you learn the ins and outs of how this game works, and slowly but surely you learn to stretch your limited resources further. All you're really playing for is the high-score, but there is enough depth to keep you entertained.

Like the arcade classic Smash TV, your primary means of survival are the weapons. Your default gun/stave/??? is pathetic and wimpy, relying on it will get you killed. So as soon as a monster drops a weapon orb, you grab it and start kicking some butts. There are four weapons, and you're going to want the purple orb. Why? Because it's a spreadshot that clears the area quite nicely. The catch is that all of the weapons are temporary, and the orbs are only on-screen for so many seconds. Still, in a game like this, every second matters. If you have a purple weapon, and a purple orb drops, don't just rush over and grab it. Let that orb sit there for a little while, so you can make the most of your current weapon.

It's fair to say that luck plays a slight factor in your survival. If you're not getting good weapon drops, or you just can't seem to get your shields and bombs replenished, then you'll probably have a bad time. It's important to learn the ins and outs of enemy behaviors/spawns and your movement. Basically, it's all about preparing for the dry spells. If you can handle bad situations with no weapons, then you're sure to improve your score.

It's also nice that games of Death Goat are extremely short. Some twin-stick shooters take awhile to get challenging, and that gets old quick. Business starts to pick up after the first or second minute of every game, so you're never relaxing for long.

Overall this is a simplistic game, and will only retain your attention for as long as you're trying to top the online leaderboards. It is pretty solid though, so give it a look.

Death Goat is a death and metal music themed action game where your target is to beat high scores in a survival mode.
At the start you can choose from 3 maps, 4 character (+1 unlockable) and 14 different metal music. The game controls are simple, you use a WASD to move and a mouse to shoot, aim and detonate bomb . The next wave always harder to survive than the previous, because you can find bigger amount of enemies, with always a new type of them appearing. When you kill enemies they have a chance to drop different kinds of buff for you to pick up. The graphics of game is simple but for this game style it's fitting. Music selection is nice, if you like this genre you'll probably like it.

So my verdict

+good music
+fast action
+steam achievements and trading cards

-after longer time can be a bit repetitive
-just one game mode

I think this game not want be more for what this been developed, this a simple action game when you should survive as long as possible. This game have good music and enough fats action, but after longer time can be tiresome. But if you like this style or like a metal music i think you should try this one, because the price for this not a big, also at the moment this you can get in bundle to.

Death Goat is a twin-stick arcade shooter that is full of blood, guts, gore, and metal. The title spent a bit of time in Early Access before eventually being fully released on June 7, 2016. At the time of writing, it is the only game that the developer/publisher Terminal Press have released on Steam.

Being an avid, enthusiastic fan of metal, it's obvious that I was excited to play Death Goat. What could be better than slaughtering hoards of enemies to epic battle hymns and deathly doom ballads? Unfortunately, due to lack of overall content, the game falls incredibly short of anything spectacular. There are three "levels", which are just really different backgrounds, and five total characters to play as. The characters are simply different skins, and none of them have any deviation whatsoever.

Your goal is to stay alive as long as possible, which is actually pretty hard. The maps are small, and your overhead field of view isn't very wide, so it's very easy to get overrun by foes quickly. There are only three or four power-ups that you can pick up from fallen enemies; a laser shot, a melee-ranged ice sword, and a couple different burst shots. You start each game off with three lives, and three pentagram bombs; the bad guys will drop a bomb pick-up for you every now and then, but as far as I could tell you cannot regain a life once it is lost.

If your metal tastes are like mine, then you will find the soundtrack on-par at best. It's filled mostly with metalcore, deathcore, and melodic metal bands, while some blackened death, groove, and progressive metal is scattered sparsely. I won't deny that this is a good opportunity for these bands to gain some new fans, and to spread the word about themselves, but for those who enjoy heavy doses of death, black, and doom metal, you will find yourself disappointed. I was personally better off hitting the mute button and throwing on my own mix of tunes. As well, you can only pick one song per time you play... so if you survive the duration of the song, it will just repeat.

Overall, is Death Goat good? It's a mediocre twin-stick arcade shooter at best. You try to survive, to get the highscore, you die, you rinse and repeat. Once you get a certain amount of kills, you unlock the Death Tank which I suppose completely ravages your enemies, but by the time you reach that point you'll be completely sick of the game itself. The metal soundtrack is a good aspect, but it's really only an attraction gimmick at this point. There aren't exactly a wide variety of enemies or "levels", either, so the aesthetics really become boring over time as well.

Rating: 2.0/5.0 - It's not awful, but it's not great.

Death "Metal" Goat @ 3bucks? instabuy!
Not treading any new ground for twin stick shooters, still fun in short bursts.
Contains 3 levels and 4 characters which really are just different skins. Would have liked to see layout of levels altered and while enemies were reasonably creative I feel it's a missed opportunity not to be themed to each zone. Music is where the game shines and you'll be hard pressed not to have a headbang while playing. 14 great tracks are included with the option of randomizing the playlist. Global scoreboards available for scorechasers. Screen resolutions of 4k+ was supported along with sliders for sfx, voices and music (why would you turn that down/off !?). Controls were unable to be remapped and a gamepad would be suggested. Decent little pick and play stress reliever, don't even need to spend 15minutes delving through 30 menus before the slaughter begins. \m/

What you should expect from this game:
- Ear-Blasting Metal from a variety of different bands
- Hordes of disgusting demons to blast and slice in pieces
- 3 different arenas, 5 different characters
- Fast twin-stick action
- A mix of comedy and demonic themes
- Not much content but the soundtrack easily makes up for that

I recommend if you enjoy heavy metal music and enjoy twin-stick arcade shooters

This game is entertaining while being a time killer. I love the artwork and choices of music, though the maps could use some work (Sometimes it is difficult to see tiny incoming enemies on certaint maps). But other than that it is still an entertaining little game.
