Run or Die Friendship Release and RunOrDieCade Competition Announcement

Hello fellow Runners!

It’s been quite some time...but I’ve been up to something. Well, up to the biggest Run or Die update yet. And More. A huge competition and a small video of me playing Run or Die with a Guitar Hero Guitar. (But I will get to that later). I feel like the game has come a long way since the beginning and that is why this version will be called:

The Run or Die Friendship Release

Thanks to your feedback, Run or Die has been changing bit by bit over the last year and got better and better. With the addition of Continue for Endless Mode, more map changes than I can count to make the maps more intuitive and more fun, Trading Cards and many quality of life improvements and bug fixes, it feels like you guys and I together made Run or Die a better game than I could have ever built on my own. Thank you. And to give something back, this update is a very special one.

So what does the Run or Die Friendship Release have in store for you? I always dreamt that Flows companions, the Doc and Mr Rumples, join her on her quest one day. And now they did!

  • The Doc and your favorite catdog Mr Rumples are now playable characters!
  • The Training Maps have been revamped
  • The Introduction got a bit easier
  • The Challenge Maps have been edited to be more forgiving in some locations
  • There is an option now to disable screen flashes
  • Several Bugfixes regarding controller support

I hope that you will have a ton of fun running through Alice City with those two. I certainly had while testing!

As a little surprise for you, I’ve searched for my old Guitar Hero Guitar and tried to beat Run or Die with it. Can’t be that hard right?! Over here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-cUE31xVGM

The RunOrDieCade Competition

Prizes:

1st Prize: A custom made Run or Die Arcade Cabinet

2nd and 3rd Prize: A Team Flow T-Shirt (Size S, M or L)

Rules:
Starting this Saturday for one week (30th of January to 6th of February), everybody who makes it into the Top 5 of a Daily Run and stays there until the end of that day (so everybody in the world no matter the timezone has had a chance to play on that day) has a chance to win a prize. If you make it into the Top 5 on two days, you have two chances, if you make it into the Top 5 on three days, you have three chances etc.
At the end of the week, winners will be decided by a random draw out of all the runners who made it into the Top 5 during the week! The winners will then be verified, announced and contacted.

Disclaimer:
Every player (Steam Account) is only allowed to enter the Daily Run once a day. Everybody who enters a Daily Run twice in one day will be disqualified. In case somebody gets disqualified, the 6th place runner will move up! In addition, I have put other measures in place to prevent people from cheating. If I have a suspicion that someone did cheat I will retain the right to disqualify that player without further reasoning. It might sound a bit harsh, but I do not want to run into any troubles and I will only make use of such measures if I really need to.
As this competition should be a fun time for you and for me and I cannot pay for any legal issues: If you decide to take part in this competition, you agree to not take any legal actions against me in any case in whatever way. Members of Team Flow are not allowed to take part in the competition.

I hope that you like the Run or Die Friendship Release and that many of you will participate in the competition! To conclude this announcement, Run or Die might have a huge discount starting this Saturday so your friends who haven’t got Run or Die yet can join you!

Give the Run or Die Friendship Release a thumbs up if you like it and feel free to comment if you have any questions or other feedback!

That’s all from me today. Have a nice day and keep on running,
Flo

One of the most frustrating games I have ever played. I've died more times then I can count. Incredibly challenging and makes you think on the fly. Simple to learn, hard to master. Get it, play it, win it.

Run or Die is the only running game I've ever enjoyed. The challenge is fair, the controls are smooth, and the art is superb. Even the tutorial is good. The only negative I can really think of is that the game comes with a fairly high frustration factor, but that's to be expected given the genre.

This is quite the addicting and fun game.
It requires not only good reflexes but also some quick thinking for the right action to perform to keep the run going.
I'm not the best of players, my highest score so far has been in the 1400ish kimos but with every death I seem to learn something. I know exactly why I died, what I could have done to avoid that death, like slowing down, or using the skills in a certain way and this made every death not feel frustrating at all but instead a way to try and become better.

Speaking about the game itself, it's like Speed the movie, only on foot. You have to keep running, you can't stop or you die. If you hit a wall you die. So it's imperative to use the 2 skills the game gives you to avoid every obstacle and keep running.

While I liked the random nature of the skills given in endless run, which get shuffled at every safe zone, I liked more the fixed nature of the challenge mode.
Challenge mode has you try to recover a certain amount of discs while making your way to the end of the level. The skills given in challenge mode are fixed, so learning the level and where and how to use those skills to grab all the discs made it feel a bit like a puzzle game to me. Executing the plan to perfection to get all the discs on the first of the easy levels made me feel quite accomplished, all the while making me think how much better I'll have to become since it was just an easy level.

I think that anyone looking for a challenging but fair game should give this one a chance, because the gameplay feels fun , challenging but not frustrating, where failure helps in learning more about the game and becoming better at it.

Fantastic runner game from Team Flow. If you are a fan of the genre I can't recommend it enough.
Tight controls, beautiful pixel art and a great soundtrack by Vidboy & Lifeformed (dustforce).
Well worth keeping shortlisted and I apologize in advance for my lack of running skills.. :]

Run or Die is a very addictive game, in a good way. The game's simple enough to drag you in, and more than challenging enough to keep your attention for a long time.

The game art is very well done and if you're not careful you'll be spending more time looking at the scenery than looking at what's in front of you. Thankfully the music is very relaxed and is a joy to listen to while getting sliced into small bits because of LASERS. I HATE THEM SO MUCH!

All in all, it's a great game and it's more than worth its fair price!

TL;DR --> This game should be called Buy or Die. Why? Because even at full price it costs less than a junk food menu.

----------------------------------------------------------------

As a non-casual player of the genre, Run or Die caught my attention very fast, and I was sure I'd grab it when it had any sort of discount.

The game is basically what you see in the trailer: a RNG side-scroller where your main character has multiple skills to help her avoid obstacles and trying to reach the ending (is there really an end, actually? :P).

The main mode of this game is the Endless one. Contrary to many games like this one, you barely gain speed in case you're reaching further zones in the game. Instead patterns become harder to avoid and faster, more complex and more accurate reflexes are needed to keep going through.

GAME FEATURES:

- Endless Mode, Challenge Mode, Training Mode, Tutorial and a Daily Run Challenge.
- Many leaderboards, depending on the mode and the time lapse.
- Five skills to play with (Dive, Leap, Dash, Ion, EMP).
- Complete gamepad compatibility.
- Customizable controls.

Despite having a total of 5 skills, in this game you can only use 2 of them at the same time. As I said, this game is RNG, so skills are chosen randomly and you adapt yourself to them. Patterns will appear according to your skills. In case you get far enough into your run, you'll eventually reach "Safe Zones", where skills can be changed for others and further patterns will become more complex.

So that's it. This game is basically opium for those people who loves de genre and for that price it can give you a very pleasant entertainment.

PROS:
+ Controls are, as usual in these kind of games, very tight and very responsive.
+ Even though there's just 1-2 tracks, music is catchy.
+ Gets the idea of the "Just one more run..." feeling of addiction.
+ Easy to learn, challenging to master.
+ RNG element, making every run dinamically different.
+ Huge amount of patterns; when you think you've seen all of them, a new one simply appears.
+ Pixel art looks pretty cool.
+ Workshop for level editor.

CONS:
- Even though there's a training mode, complex patterns are simply impossible to practise unless you're skilled enough to reach them again in multiple runs. "Try and fail" feeling is never welcomed.
- Even though pixel art is good, the main character looks surprisingly different from the real model.
- The fact that you're always playing with only 2 skills can get extremely confusing. Some skills like "Dash" usually goes to LB (gamepad), but when it combines with "Leap" it changes to RB. Unless you're very, very focused, you can just screw everything basically because your brain just got used to another setting.
- Lack of content. The context shown in the game somehow looks very interesting, as if there was a cool storyline behind it... but then you find nothing.
- Most achievements are farm-based. Ew.

Overall, this was the kind of drug I wanted and as long as devs keep doing games like this one I'll never get tired of the genre.

Final Mark: 7/10 for the game in global, 8/10 for the game in its genre

This game is a perfect example of "easy to learn, hard to master". I'm loving and hating it at the same time, because to be honest, i am kinda bad at this, but it's fun nontheless. I'm doing my dailyrun nearly everyday, just to be beat my friends score :>

And it's kinda addicting:
You run, you die, "this is my last try", you run, you die, "this is my last try", you run, you die.... you get the idea ;)

This game has nice retro visuals, which remind me of the good old SNES games.

I would recommend this to everyone who liked runners like Canabalt, Vector or Bit.trip.

<<An Indie Gem, with far too little recognition and attention! Especially for this pricetag.>>

Super fun runner - once you've got the hang of it you enter a sort of flow state without having to think much. Early levels/areas are relaxing, later bits are super stressfull. Daily runs were a great idea that'll extend the game's life quite a bit.
