Hey everyone. I bought this game quite some time ago now and enjoyed playing it over LAN at home with friends and against bots. I'd like to tell you what changes were made in the last update to this game, but I can't because the devs decided we now have to create an online account with password in order to play at all. It would've been nice to give people the option to continue playing over LAN without forcing players online with strangers. I enjoy playing multiplayer online sometimes, but there are plenty of times that I just don't want to. I enjoyed things the way they were.

If you know nothing about the game, it's basically like the old Car Wars arena play from Steve Jackson Games, but these vehicles hover. I enjoyed the game a lot for what it's worth, but if you want to play you need to get used to the idea that an online account is required. I can't review any of the changes since the last major update that added the account requirement with no option to bypass. As it is, if you like cars and weapons in an arena, this is okay... but wait for it to go on sale.

I do recommend the game overall with the notable provisions stated above. My kids didn't really like playing it very much. They'd rather play a lot of other games instead of this. I have deleted the game from my system, but if my kids ever change their minds about playing... maybe I'll make an account for it. Maybe. Sometimes I just want to play over LAN with people I know, but the devs excluded that option. Too bad.

Metal Drift is a seemingly still in beta game that could grow into something great if they would begin heading in a direction they haven't even started in yet. It's could be a mobile game on a high end phone to kill 15 minutes of time.

There is bot/LAN modes that can be accessed only after logging into the games servers (with a username and password). After gettind used to the idea that you are piloting a tank and not a light cycle from Tron, you find yourself armed with a pea shooter cannon and confronting a rocket launching opposing team. When they say drift tank, they mean driffffffft until about an hour in when you master controls.

The announcer was probably only in studio for roughly 10 minutes to VO some very repetitive commentary and some end of match plugs for the personal websites of the game's contributors.

In all, try the demo. If you like it read the updates to see if you'll be getting anything more than the same.

You can't proceed to the start menu to check out even the single player part, before being required to create a gaming account.
Not going to happen, as I got this game in a bundle, and honestly can't be bothered to jump through several hoops, just to try a game for a few minutes.
At least there were cards...

Metal Drift is not what i expected.
It seems fun, but controls are tricky.
Graphics are average and sometimes confusing.
It's not bad but it isn't great also.

I could see this game being fun at a lan party or something but it has some issues it has to work out.
First, When I loaded my first match, a lot of the textures did not load in for the map, so I could not see the walls and it made it very difficult to play. I tried switching to lower graphics settings and that seemed to fix the problem.
Second, about half of the time when trying to load a server, the game will flatout crash. I'm not sure what's causing that but it seems inconsistent. For example, I'll create a game and it will work just fine. Then I'll create a game with the exact same settings, and the game will crash and require a restart.
Third, I've played a bunch of matches, in which I have killed and scored plenty of times. When I check on my stats online, it says I have no kills, no goals scored etc. Which is weird because it shows my level, which increases from playing matches, and its up to date with my current level.
Fourth, Maybe you don't care about achievements, but because of the third reason I gave, it seems as though a lot of the achievements are failing to register.
