About This Game

Famaze is a retro themed puzzle adventure game. The game combines charming SNES era visuals and sound, randomized "roguelike"mazes, strategy and puzzles, rpg elements, and a fun lighthearted story. The game is simple to pick up but offers endless replay because of the procedural nature of its levels.

The story of the game involves a mad king who has captured the happy rutabagas of the land and has turned them into evil monsters to guard his kingdom while he searches for the elusive perfect recipe for rutabaga pudding. The heroes of the land (a knight, thief, or wizard) must delve deep into the king's domain to rescue the rutabagas, find the gem of truth to unravel the secret recipe and put a stop to the mad king's plot.

Famaze is a fun little old-school game.
You explore dungeons from back scenery view, while fighting monsters and picking up loot.
If you explore the labyrinth long enough, you will find several beacons that will light a certain area, preventing monsters from spawning there.
The player also has a minimap that updates itself while he explores. You will often need to find keys to unlock doors to other areas. Keys are usually scattered in places hard to reach, guarded by enemies or traps.
There are 3 classes you can choose from when starting the game: Wizard, Thief or Knight. The Wizard specialises in spell-casting and thus is a good choice for ranged combat. The Thief has a chance of disabling traps so you can easily reach a place without having to take the long way. The Knight has the most HP and deals most damage.
The combat is turn-based. If you're playing as the warrior, don't expect to not be hit at your turn. Also, everytime you move a space, so do the enemies, making your plan route different.

Pros: +old-school dungeon crawler;
+exploration of the map;
+the classes and leveling up system;
+usage of items;

Cons:+could've been more complex, in terms of gameplay;
+it gets repetitive after a short while;

Personal rating: 70/100

A fun little game with nice 16 bit-like graphics and simple mechanics which makes the game addictive. It also isn't very difficult but is slowly increasing over time. It has very good puzzles and the music is great. This is far from what you'd expect from a free to play game.

It's a pretty simple game, but really fun to play. I tried almost all the "Free to play" games from steam that weren't Multiplayer FPS and MOBAs, and this one was the best I could find until now.
