ITS SWEEZY BABY! Wow. This is a real gem, especially considering the low low 3.99$ asking price. I had a coupon and got it for significantly less even.

This is a wonderful throw-back to old-school twin stick shootem-up gaming, only with character progression this time. Very satisfying bullet-hell gunfighting. Also has heavy MetroidVania elements!

Pros:
1. You will get WAYYYYY more hours out of this than the price merits
2. Awesome addicting twin-stick mayhem
3. Awesome soundtrack
4. MetroidVania elements all over

Cons:
1. No controller support... Yet
2. Graphic style turned me off at first, but now I am more ok with them. I think it is that there is no real theme to the enemies - one minute you are real-life birds and the next it is spiders BoI style, and yet later it may be weird robots

This is well, well worth the money.

This is an interesting "arena" metroidvania twin-stick(?) type shooter. You are the Sweezy Gunner who has crash landed and must make your way through the world to get to the other side of your ship to leave. The story doesn't make much sense. You move through the screens killing enemy's getting power-ups and money which you can use to purchase upgrades. After a while you come to a dungeon where you do the same. At the end of each dungeon is a boss who bestows a special ability that allows you access to places you couldn't go before: water tires, a dash ability, lava tires, etc.

The controls are unique. It is a twin stick type, but you can't use a controller. You have to use the keyboard for movement and the mouse to aim. I tried using the Pinnacle control to map the controls, but the aiming bit didn't work well. When the aiming recticle gets to the edge of the screen, the screen shifts position. With the mouse you can make the adjustments easily; with the controller - not so much. I didn't care for the controls because when I play the aiming recticle is too far from the action. When there is tons of bullets, gold and monsters on the board it can be hard to see where it is.

I enjoyed playing this game, but I can not recommended it. In my mind, there are better games out there.

Turning off the music turns off the sound effects, rendering this game completely unplayable for me.

It's a really fun and simple game (except for the challenge levels, if you're graving for some spicy sauce ;) )
I enjoyed playing it.

Well this one sure came out of left field. My owning this game is the result of just another "vote=key", and prior to getting the email announcing its release and my free copy, I had completely forgotten about it. Thank goodness I took the time to install and sample its gameplay, because this is one greenlight title that is very much worthy of actually being on Steam.

Sweezy Gunner is a bullet hell shooter, but unlike your typical shmup, this game lacks any sort of automatic scrolling screen or rage inducing bullet patterns with extremely specific safe zones. Rather, it's a free roaming top-down adventure, full of collectible abilities and purchasable upgrades.

As you move through the varying zones, enemies become tougher, and where you might once have only contended with a slow moving, delayed single-shot spewing hellspawn, new areas introduce enemies more than willing to litter the screen with little red doom pellets. Luckily, as the enemies grow in strength, ferocity, and number, so too do you earn the upgrades necessary to contend with them. The majority are simple; speed, strength, bullet velocity are the most common, along with basic health and defense upgrades. But the greatest benefit to your arsenal comes from dropped weapon types from the enemies you annihilate, like bullets that swirl around you as you move, rapid and wide shot, explosive shot, etc. Once you learn to juggle avoiding bullets and weaving your way in and out to nab pickups, the screen can quickly become an indiscernible mess of marbles of all colors wizzing across the screen in a rainbow of death and chaos. But don't worry, the price of death is a mere reset back to the beginning of whatever area you're in and a small loss of earned funds.

The game is broken up into two main parts, the first being the overworld, where you will spend at least half of your time getting from point A to point B. The overworld contains several themes, depending on your location, as well as varying types and difficulties of enemies. The second major part are the dungeons: contained levels with their own specific themes, often with the express goal of finding an exit and reaching a new part of the overworld. I won't spoil the steps you'll have to take to escape these dungeons, but i will recommend that you take the opportunity to use healing machines whenever you find one.

The many upgrades you can buy come in several forms. You can purchase them from the shops that pop up, both in the overworld and the dungeons, but these will only increase as you collect special coins that unlock more upgrades as you progress. The other sort of upgrade comes from special cards dropped by enemies, requiring you to kill a certain number of them before being able to buy the upgrade the card holds. Lastly, there are special secret cards that can only be found by exploring every inch of the map, and while these can be devilishly difficult to find, the benefits speak for themselves.

In the end, Sweezy Gunner was an excellent surprise, its only real limits are likely caused by the program used to create it. Even if you're not a fan of typical bullet hell games and their no holds barred difficulty, I would recommend you give this one a shot; you will undoubtedly enjoy your time with it, and the difficulty is right on the money with a casual, albeit frenetic experience that anyone can enjoy.

A harmless and fun shoot 'em up with character progression, it's challenging at times but nothing too hardcore. You can die without losing the last half hour of progress which is makes the game more appealing to players who aren't looking for arcade style shoot 'em up titles.

The visuals and soundtrack both complement the game especially with the contemporary score maintaining an upbeat vibe throughout the game. There are a lot of fun upgrades to buy and quests offered by merchants throughout the levels which add some much welcome flavor to the genre.

Yes, just like the screen shots, the graphics just serviceable really. However, the leveling up and quests mechanics made the game addictive as hell. Before I know it, 5 mins turns into an hour. Wow.

This one came as a big surprise for me cause I expected it to be a standard one dollar bin trash, but in fact it is quite enjoyable. It looks like some Amiga public domain game from the 90s on steroids. Decent shoot`em up, will surely keep you occupied for a few hours. Graphics is a bit childish so if you feel like a manly man play it when no one is looking ;)

This is a short review of this game. I touch areas minimally, and this is mostly an opinion.

For a game that seemed so simple on the outside, It's great. It's a beautifully made game about running in and shooting the hell out of anything that moves. The graphics are well done, the mechanics are nice, the sound in this game is catchy and enjoyable, and offers a challenge to overcome the barrages of bullets and enemies. This game is great and all, However there are things that I don't like.

I happen to be a person who likes to 100% games with achievements and all, and having to go back and forth through multiple areas multiple times just gets painful. I forget that I am indeed able to die, and just run through like I'm god, forgetting about my gun and shield. I have also found a few glitches here and there. Once, I was able to go on the water at the beginning, before I had the ability to, accessing an area I shouldn't have been able to otherwise. I also managed to get myself glitched in the wall at the third boss. Not able to die, teleport or go back, I had the reset, doing the entire place again as well as the boss. That ♥♥♥♥ed me off a lot.

Overall, this game is still great, the music and graphics are colourful, and the game mechanics are nice. There are minor annoyances, but they aren't game breaking.

Controlling the Gunner can be a bit sticky, as he tends to get caught on things at the worst time, but other than that, this is definitely a must try for fans of bullet hells and with a bit of a Metroidvania-Lite twist!

Pretty good simple Smash TV style fun. The single flaw is slightly long screen transitions that break up the flow, but other than that - pretty smooth.

I love this game! It is very simple to get used to, but I'll be damned if it doesn't get challenging. My fiance has looked at me sideways as I throw tantrums at my screen after I've died during a long and nerve racking, nail-biting boss fight. Sometimes even just making your way to the well scatted stores is a mission in itself, but for some reason having to chomp through hordes of enemies that are attacking you from every perceivable angle does not wane in fun value after you have left that area and come back to it again.

The graphics are clean, smooth and lovely to look at. The environments maintain a lot of diversity which makes stumbling upon new areas always exciting. Unlocking upgrades and the way in which you do is very fun and satisfying. I can't be the only one to start salivating when I come accross a giant heart!

The boss fights are AWESOME to say the least. There's so much happening, I must say this game has given me better hand-eye coordination because I slowly get better at dodging bullets (slowly).

You will die a lot, swear a lot (this is the first game that has actually made me scream out loud, lol), you will smile a lot and possible feel psychopathic.

Overall I give this game a 9/10 -- 1 point off for the lack of story, which isn't at all necessary to enjoy the game, but that would complete it. I also understand that controller support is in the works, so keep that in mind if you're considering this game! I think that would make it a hell of a lot better, which seems impossible!

Sweezy Gunner is an open world SHMUP. You control your tank as you move through various worlds looking for upgrades and powerups. Although there are a few minor hiccups, it is well worth its inclusion in Steam Greenlight.

Pros:
Legend of Zelda+SHMUP

Cons:
Low drop rate for hearts, cards, items
Jobs felt tacked on

The good:
Holy cow is this addicting! Like METH. Very fun unique indie game! Normally the market is saturated with indie garbage because apparantly it takes very few votes to get even the stupidest dog crap released, but this one I find to be very addictive and fun. I can't stop playing. It's always "okay one more screen then I am done!" The sound is alright and the game runs smooth, the enemies are neat, and some of the stage graphics remind me of Zelda on SNES. What makes the game though is the music. So far I have only heard two or three songs but they are the reason the game is fun. Without the ♥♥♥♥♥in techno blasting, it would be a completely different game. The upgrade system is also fun.

The bad:
Went to take a dump and came back to find that it is the type of game that lets the screensaver come on. That's fine, but then the game froze and thankfully I was able to alt+f4 out. But I can't imagine how much time I just lost. Hopefully not much because I can't remember when last I saved.

Don't leave this game. Sit and play it until you are done unless you like games crashing. 7/10

Eeh, I dunno about this one. It's a good deal longer than a lot of indie action games, but ultimately the quality seemed to suffer as a result, and some of that length was because of backtracking and grind missions for upgrades that never really felt like they mattered. Likewise, it gave reward bonuses for dodging all bullets, then made it very easy to bump into a bullet or enemy with how chaotic things quickly got.

It also had two big design flaws that made me need to mark it down - one is that the audio options didn't work, forcing me to rely on the Windows audio options in order to turn the sound down to a non-eardrum-shattering level. The other is that the ending scene kicks you out of the game without saving your progress, when you've likely just made progress by beating the game...!

In the end this isn't as negative as it could be, and at $4 Sweezy Gunner is hardly a terrible game, but there's a lot of more entertaining indie action games and top-down shooters available on Steam.

For the current price of £2.79 I can recommend this game. It's a top-down shooter with elements of bullet-hell. Although it can get quite tough at times, I found the difficultly challenging but not to the point of being infuriating or excessively hardcore.

Pretty much everything I like about VIDEO GAMES is in this game: bullets to dodge, insane weapons to pick up, a bestiary system, an upgrade system, a map to explore, coins and hearts to find, abilities to learn that open up new areas in old locations... This is such a well-made game, I have very little to nitpick about. I can't find anything to nitpick about that would be worth putting in this review.

For $3.99, you simply must own this game.
(Unless you just don't like playing awesome video games.)
