Heldric - The Ultimate Winter Holiday Update 1.4

As a thank you to all my fans I present you the forth major update to Heldric as my gift to you. Inside the nicely wrapped patch you will find many new toys and treasures.

Let it snow, let it snow…

What is a winter holiday update without snow? And lots of it. Including all the festive decorations that come with the season. Decorated trees, gift wrapped pick-ups, Santa costume and even a candy-cane sword for Heldric. All existing maps can also be played in normal or Santa mode.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds…

Well, maybe not so much in their beds any more. This update brings more depth to the game by having a chance of spawning a child instead of adult. Children cannot fight, but can run fast and will grow into an adult in 60 seconds. The harder the skill mode the greater the chance of a child to spawn instead of an adult. Keep this in mind as losing villagers can hurt even more now.

Be good for goodness sake…

You’ve asked for more maps and now they are here. Two new bonus holiday maps include a new game mode where you must protect the Christmas tree and gifts from the grinches out to spoil the holiday. It will take a combined effort of towers and traps to save the day. Don’t forget to ensure your maze is designed to keep them trapped as long as possible.

As they shouted out with glee…

Tower defense fans rejoice. You now have two new towers to unleash on the enemy. A new static spire tower deals electrical damage to all foes in range with a small cool-down. Good for groups and deadly when combined with a slow shrine. But if you really want to stop the enemy in their tracks, then the new void hold tower is what you need. This tower can suck up three to five enemies and hold them for ten seconds allowing other towers to recharge. Once released, they lose 50-75% of their health.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter…

This update brings three new music tracks to help set the festive mood. These tracks will automatically play on winter maps or when in winter holiday mode. Many new sound effects have also been added to make for a very rich environment.

When what to my wondering eyes did appear…

Your eyes won’t be disappointed with improved textures and terrain quality. On by default in the options, the new HD terrain adds extra detail and depth. Most other objects in the game also received a facelift with better textures and appearance.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work…

In addition to all the other content, the game’s user interface and HUD have also been improved. A new skill bar consolidates actions and weapon selection while providing arrow, keg and spike trap counts. You will also find commonly used functions like build and call for help there for quick use. As before, both the primary and secondary keys may be remapped in the options.

See the change log for a complete list of improvements and changes. I’d like to thank all my fans again and wish you a happy holiday and wonderful new year.

Heldric 1.3 free content update!

Hell is empty and all the devils are here.

Do you enjoy a vicious orc cutting down villagers where they stand? You now have a chance to see what it's like to be the nefarious creatures playing a new bonus map. The orc camp will have you defending yourself against increasing waves of villagers. Don't under estimate villager's power, as each wave they increase in numbers and become better equipped with deadly weapons. Monks with their area of effect lightning spell can take out groups of your fellow denizens. Upgrade your beast portal to summon reinforcements such as goblins, spiders, trolls and even the dreaded orc boss.

Cry havoc, and let slip the dogs of war!

Even the toughest orcs will take pause when they face an angry wolf in their path. A new tower, the war wolf cage, will release a trained wolf that will hunt down any foes in range. These white wolves will also gain experience and can level up. Once killed however, the tower must be rebuilt.

The golden age is before us, not behind us.

This patch not only includes several new additions, but existing content also received attention. Improvements to movement controls to feel more rigid and faster response to player input. Particle effects have been added or improved on most defensive structures and rebirth shrines. Better light and occlusion maps not only improve the game look but performance. A number of balance changes make the game more challenging so be sure and check the change log for details.

Put money in thy purse.

With this third free major content comes even more good news for those of you who don't already own Heldric. That's right, for a limited time Heldric is 33% off! (Starting Oct 6th - 10th) I'd like to thank all of you who have purchased the game. Please help by spreading the word about the game, leaving your review or youtube videos.

7.9/10 – http://techraptor.net/2014/06/20/heldric-legend-shoemaker-review/

  • Build and upgrade town structures each with their own bonus effects
  • Defend the village against monstrous waves of evil attacks
  • Protect the kingdom one village at a time in campaign mode

  • Randomized monsters, each with different armor parts and weapons

Heldric is a mix of several types of games. It has something of city builder, a little of tower defense and some of Hack & Slash. None of those parts is good enough to work as separate game. All of them are generally too simple and offers nothing fresh. But mix of them is not bad. This game tries to find it's own path and do it in decent way. Unfortunately there are still some bugs and game balace would be definitely better, but still it is a game worth trying. Also it's getting boring after some time, but on the other hand it's not too long.

If you like Indie games you should try it. I can't ensure that you will like it, but if you want to try something little different, give it a chance.
If you don't like Indie games, you won't change your mind after this.

Ok it's time to put some of these crappy reviews to bed.

I have completed this game and I have actually enjoyed this game. I was reading the reviews here and was thinking, "this can't be that bad" so I was already going into this game expecting a sub par experience. I have played this game to the end, I even live streamed the entire games play through. To my surprise, this game was no where near the sub par experience that I was expecting that I saw a few people here post. As the developer has said, this isn't a hard core game meant for that sort of audience. If you are looking for the next RTS or Tower Defense game that has more features then I care to read about, then you wont find it here. If you wanna have a nice time checking out what this game has to offer as far as just PURE FUN value, then you have your self a winner. I really liked my play through and I was notified of this games bug fixes just before the holidays and complete update to change what is in the games current state.

Not many developers even go back on there single player experiences and actually fix there issues. "TOWNS anyone?" I have played an extensive amount of kick starter titles and hobby made games and this game has surpassed all of them. My opinion here people is this, if you haven't played the game and actually experienced it, then why are you writing a novel sized negetive review when you have less then an hour. Either way, the game itsef is actually really good. This game at launch had some issues, but nothing that was really serious. I even managed to do a first impressions video a long time ago on my channel show casing what it looked like and I gave the developer a really hard time about it. He took it very well and actually listened to me about my feed back.

Speaking of novel sized reviews, I am almost done. What makes this game good to me, I like how this game has evolved since I played it, "I haven't even seen the updated game yet, I will be doing a second play through". I like the idea of how you place the towers down and the platforms, and the villagers immediately know what to do. I didn't have any of the normal issues of characters walking through each other, or trying to get themselves killed in a goblin battle. The amount that you get to choose from, towers, housing, fires, even barricades finds itself with a nice balance to not over whelm the player and yet has its own ways of making you use the tools that are presented in front of you. The story is different "but different good", hes not some over powering stereo type hero. Hes a member of society that has taken stand for what his fellow towns men are going through.

This dev is very small and has done a lot of work. They are listening to all of our worries and concens and are working a LOT to keep up with our demands. I stress this again, these sort of devs are RARE and TO FEW that exist. Keep that in mind the next time you ♥♥♥♥♥ wanna troll this games dev. Good reason as to why some of these guys don't wanna help you lot when it comes to bug fixes.

Build your village, place your traps, and protect the people! ... all while upgrading your village, your traps, and spawning more people! Tons of fun and there's a really tough challenge mode that will keep you busy. Wishlist it at least so you don't forget about it and grab it on sale one day :)

This is a Good Game.

The game plays out in almost a god like game, where you as the main char has to help and build a village of people as well as traites that help the town servive waves of enemys.

As the waves of enemys progress so does the size and numbers of the enemy. So you have to really know what it is your doing early game so that late game your holding off your enemys at bay or at least able to kill them with little trouble.

There's a map that comes up before every game and you make your way from the bottem and snakely from left to right and right to left make way to the very top of the map.

Once there you have to beable to survive at least 10 rounds with only max villigers in town as they die off thats it.

So if you loose all the villigers GAME OVER.

This gama has come a long ways since it was released on steam and its very promising for those who want a challange as well as a tacticle thought out gameplay.

BEWARNED though take note of the objectives if you dont you will find out the hard way.

Good Luck.

Great concept, lot of potential, but needs a lot of work.

I know the developer said this was aimed at the casual gamer, but I think with more features it'd be a truly stand out game. Current issues as I see them are:

Quite a few bugs
Repetitive enemies / maps
Not a lot of strategy needed for building / unit posistioning
Lack of overall narrative

With a bit more polish I'd change my review to recommended in a heartbeat.

This is a great game with a more casual feel about it. Brilliant if you find yourself wanting to jump in and play for short periods at a time.

The game itself has a nice feel about it and looks great. One of the most amazing parts is that it was made by just one single dev. He has continued to update this game from release and many of the negative reviews reflect release bugs that have been corrected or removed now. Althought the game is not 100% perfect, the few bugs and flaws are not game-breaking and in some way add to the charm of this nice little game.

If you like tower defense games -- Give it a go.
If you like hack and slash games -- Give it a go.
If you are expecting something Diablo-esque -- Stop thinking that and give it a go!

7/10 - Great fun and the hours you can spend in this game make the pricetag well and truly worth it!

It's an interesting concept, but it needs a lot of work. Pathfinding is very problematic, units slide across the screen, no real camera movement (other than a slight zoom in out), and bad/missing sound effects.

So far this has been worth the price, it's not AAA quality, but it is better than I expected. Better than a number of other games in this price bracket. I haven't hit any bugs yet, although I understand others have. The non epic player character approach and no requirement to grind for days to get something worthwhile is a nice change. That said, it is a casual game, definently not trying to be a Diablo clone.

I think this is a good game for what it is, it's definitely not "dreadful" like some other indie games that come to mind. The developer stated that this is a casual game, and he is on spot with that statement, if you like flash games/arcade style defense games this is right up your alley. It's not ultra involved, but it's not supposed to be. I'd like to see them update it with some more variation modes like some other reviewers pointed out, and in that case it would cover a much larger scope, but as it stands it's an enjoyable little game with a very reasonable price tag.

Disclaimer: Developer here.

This game is made with the casual gamer in mind who wants a bit more action. It is a mix of different styles of games for a unique experience. The trade-off is that the game isn't as deep in some other games. Typical map completion time is 20-45 minutes.

The game has several different kinds of towers and combinations of strategies needed to win. Limited building plots force you to think about what is really needed the most. Do you build a blacksmith for to unlock more melee weapons and damage. Or do you go with a fletcher to unlock bows and arrow production. These all unlock for your villagers as well.

It's also important not to play the game as a solo "epic hero." Heldric is a humble shoemaker and has no armor or can take much damage. He must rely on his wits and fellow villagers to win.

Please help improve the game by reporting any issues and suggestions to the forums. I'm always happy to hear your feedback and make it more fun.

I enjoyed this low-cost game. It's a bit like an animated Tower Defence! A lot of fun, a lot of quick thinking needed... just what the doctor ordered.
The developer responds well to requests and gets bug fixes out quickly, which is very encouraging. I recall some very expensive games which were very buggy, and remained so. Not this one!
For the price, this is well worth it. Thanks.

I like the opening cutscenes. So hilarious. Okay, [Heldric] is not the great or 'deep' one as many pointed out. It reminds me of [Hinterland] in many ways. That's all. I have enjoyed [Hinterland] so much and have enjoyed [Heldric] too. But it's definitely not the one which we can recommend to everyone. Nevertheless, I myself think [Heldric] should receive more attention.

Well I think it is an OK game, plays pretty well, better now after some bug fixes.

Entertaining enough if you just wanna play something for an hour or so and don't wanna have to get into something really heavy. Not too hard to learn, fills in some time.

Not a bad game for the price.

I have enjoyed it so far.

Well its a good concept, but the idea kinda falls flat with this game. not enought content for the price... and its only $10! I usually rate games based on how much i play them, even after winning "the game". so 100 hours in a $40 game is a good buy for me. this game just lacks the content to keep me entertained even for $10. there is 'challange' mode.. but why? it doesn't even work how I wished it would, there is no 'endless' mode, witch there is a BUTTON for it after you win every map, but you can't do it!? but I dont really even see a point in that, most games i have build everything there is to build by the end of the map and i'm just mashing 'next wave' due to boredom killing wild life. I want more buildings, higher level upgrades, bigger waves, catastrophic death!

its fun for what it is, just need about another year of development before 'fun'.

The game is great in concept but the issues it has make it suffer far to much. There is no real camera movement, making moving across the map to upgrade buildings a real pain. Bad or repetitive sound effects.
Repetitive enemies / maps
Not a lot of strategy needed for building / unit positioning, or much that can be done with units.
Combat is not that gripping.

The concept and idea's around it are great, I love the old DIY start from scratch and build your way up kinda game, but right now this game has alot to live up to.

First of all a game of this genre/idea should automatically be a definate open world, not a set everything for the player so all he has to do to make an indefendable village is press a few buttons,

Secondly the game is to easy, after making a fun open world adventure making the game a true survival is definatly a big key, resources should be scarse, or for the current games state, "in existance" and you should have to control your attacks rather than clicking on a single enemy and destroying an entire hoarde of goblins,

Lastly is content, nobody likes a game where you are stuck with the same weapon and only have a couple enemy's to fight and a few buildings to build, we want lots of different weapons to suit our style of play, different enemy's to regularly challenge the player and multiple buildings so that theres an element of choice, much like state of decay for example.

Overall this game has a good concept and ideas but has a long way to come before it is worth the money, so until this game changes this review wont.

The game is fun, but some ppl might get a bit bored after awhile.
I wouldn't recommend it right now as it is. If the developers would tweak the game more then i could see this game being fun for awhile. I like the strategy (kinda) in the game for building structures and defences, but there isn't enough.

What the developers should add/fix to this game are the following
1) Get rid of set positions for the buildings and let us put it where we want.(a few of the maps where the walls can be built to block off enemies so they would walk towards the middle were we could build the flame turret, the enemies would just walk around the walls instead and the turrets would be useless)
2) Add in a control to set the villagers to specific areas. (Some of mine just ran off to fight the boars and deers and died, and sometimes there would be a couple of villagers a bit too far away, and would run off to fight a group of enemies, but the other villagers that were nearby wouldn't help cuz they were just slightly too far away)
3) Lack of content, game doesn't feel like $10, theres a lot of repetitions in the monsters, and in the buildings that can be built. Feels more like $2-$5 game at this point.

Would recommend if these would be fixed/added.

This is not a hack and slash, or city builder. This is a tower defense game with the ability to click and send the main character to attack. It's not particularly action oriented or exciting. I was very disappointed with my purchase and should have just held out for http://www.northernshadow-game.com/home.html which is what I really wanted in this game.

I feel like an absolute fool for buying this game.

Reminds me of a school project - totally amateur.

Controls are bad, gameplay is bad, everything is bad.
