Loot Fairy AWOL for some of our birthday

Unfortunately we've encountered a bug with the loot fairy when they are hanging out in every adventure, as should be happening for our birthday weekend. We've turned the loot fairy off for the moment so it just appears in the regular location, but are working a fix for this right now and hope to have the fairy back around soon. Sorry for any disappointment this may have caused.

About This Game

Welcome, bold adventurer! Card Hunter is an online collectible card game which blends together card play, deck building, tactical combat and fantasy role-playing in a way you've never seen before. Grab your cards, miniatures, dice and snacks, then journey to a new world of adventure on the tabletop of your Game Master, Gary.

Build your party and set forth on a grand adventure in the massive single-player campaign. Each adventure will challenge your deck-building skills and tactical prowess as you battle horrifying Black Oozes, savage War Monkeys and more.

Amass a collection of fantastical swords, shields and other adventuring gear. In Card Hunter's unique deck building system, equipping your party with these items builds your deck for you.

Enter the fray on a grid based battlefield. Prepare for turn-based strategy where you must play your cards right to defeat your foes and be rewarded with experience and loot.

When you’re ready, challenge other players in casual games, ranked matches or regularly scheduled leagues. Can you rise to the top of this month’s season? Can you and your undead minions triumph in the Graveyard Gambol league? Multiplayer Card Hunter is a never-ending challenge.

Don't want to face the monsters alone? Adventure co-operatively with one or two friends and share the dangers of Cardhuntria as well as the rewards.

When you're done with the huge core campaign, try out the adventures of Omin, Binwin and Jim from Acquisitions Incorporated with an exclusive story written by Penny Arcade's Jerry Holkins. Then get ready for when robots and insane computers invade in the all new Expedition to the Sky Citadel set. Or, if you prefer your monsters from the murky mists of time, brave the challenge of prehistoric monsters and intelligent weapons in the fiendish Attack of the Artifacts.

Ever wanted to play a RPG board game but don't have any friends? Card Hunter will fix that by making a computer or real people fight you or they will be killed because you are a loser playing a RPG board game all by yourself and no one wants to ever interact with you.

What a great game.

I've been playing for a couple years and I play it every day, at least once a day, to catch the Loot Fairy. A game can take between 5 minutes and 20ish minutes. You create a dungeon delving party of wizards, priests and warriors from the classic rpg races. Then you equip them. Your equipment dictates the composition of cards in your deck and your deck dictates how well, or poorly, your party performs in the dungeon modules. Rewards for winning the adventures are stronger weapons, armor and items and, hence, better cards in your deck. Of course your dudes level up and move on to more challenging modules.

I'm certain that if you played D&D, or any table-top fantasy RPG, in the 80s you will find this game very, very nostalgic and fun. You will also immediately recognize your AI opponents, Gary and Melvin, from your youth!

This is the only time I've written a review for a game on Steam and I play many games on Steam.

What a great game.

It's got some annoying quirks and could benefit from continued tweaking and patches, but all in all this is an excellent little RPG boardgame with an old school feel. I think most people who enjoy pen and paper role-playing, especially those who've been at it for awhile, will quite enjoy this.

Terrible game misleading people into thinking they care at all what the fans think. When the most balanced aspect is player vs player your game is terrible and you are an insecure little boy who needs to "win" against the fans putting food on your plate. It's pretty disgusting.

There's no other way to describe it other than you'll just go through a trial of annoyances, frustration, and broken game mechanics until eventually you progress only to have it happen more. You see unlike most rpgs, levels don't mean anything. They cap, and thus it's rigged to where you will have to do this over, and over, and over again... about the only favorable advantage you can get is rare items accumulated at some undisclosed point in time because you have to complete all the missions of an adventure module to obtain loot or money to get loot at the stores or... it's just one scoop of aggravation on another. At what point in this shotgun wedding style of gameplay does this sound "fun"?

Also the developers are despicable and threatened me when I brought all this up. Where I come from if you want to make money, you earn it.

The mechanics are fairly weird. A player may play one card (move OR attack OR other) on one of his characters, then the enemy does the same. Repeat until both can't do any moves any more (because they don't have moves left and the enemy is not in range for any attacks). As soon as a stalemate is reached and both players "pass" a new turn will begin (and you get new cards). If just one player has to pass, then the other can still burn through all his cards until he is done (and with the way movement is handled this happens a lot (more often to the enemy, but that's boring too)).
And since moves are cards, with the way it works right now, you are really trying NOT to move up to the enemy and let them come to you, so that you can first strike.
If your three guys fight against one enemy, then by the time all three had a chance to do something, the other guy will have had three actions. Right in one of the first fights there is an enemy who covers the ground in acid. And you have no way of getting out of it. He uses an aoe spell that puts more than one of your guys into acid. And if you use a move action to get out of the acid he just uses his skill on you again (because if it is 3v1, then he moves three times as much as you do). The fight is still very winnable. It just feels idiotic.
I didn't enjoy this at all. Natural flow or pacing didn't develop at any point.

And, of course, what everyone else said: pay2win.
And a time waster game. You won't take anything from this that could be useful.
Unless wasting time is what you are going for.

Pay to win :(. It seemed decent enough but not even 2 hours in it is pushing to pay to win button alot.

I would play if it were a reg buy and pay game but not this. I will not invest my time not knowing how much i need to pay to complete game.

For people who are socially isolated enough to want to play D&D, but don't have any real-life friends.

Amazing turn based combat, classic rpg elements, and the "board-game" art style is awesome.
CO-OP campaign (3 players one char each) is SUPER fun. You will be laughed at.
Only transactions are cosmetic, so no getting blown out the water in PVP when you go against a wallet warrior.

I balked hard when the friend who recommended Card Hunter to me said the name, and admitted that card-based gameplay is involved. I really, really, really, really, repeat it a few more times, dislike deck-building games, virtual or otherwise. Aside from various other considerations, I just don't have FUN with them; tag-wise, I think only "Point-And-Click" and "MOBA" make me back-arrow out of a game's store page faster than anything to do with cards.

Well, he talked me into playing Card Hunter anyway. And you know what? I'm really glad he did.

It does involve deck-building, not in quite the way I expected, and I'm still not crazy about that part. But the game as a whole is amusingly designed and fun to play. My best team is only up to level 10 or so, so I can't vouch for later on, and I'm not much into PVP so I haven't tried that, although the co-op play was interesting. So far, it feels like a game I'll keep coming back to to play again... color me amazed. :)

DND, descent, and magic the gathering had a love child. This game scratches that bored game itch. I have played for over 100 hours and still have not come close to end game. They keep adding updates and co op is amazaing. You can make an insane amount of builds with your characters and it offers a great challenge.

Oh and its FREE!
