Not as good as the first one but alright none the less.
The first game in the series I quite enjoyed so I was definitely up for giving this one a go despite the reviews being slightly less positive towards this one. Although it definitely doesn’t have the same charm as the first one did.
It’s pretty cheesy, as pretty much all HOGs are. The voice acting is kind of bad, it was bearable in the first one but this one is just that tad bit cheesier. At least it’s to the point though that I found it amusing more than cringe worthy, which is good, I guess? Especially when he “manically laughs” that’s always funny. Given that, there wasn’t as much dialog in this one as there was the first one. The first one your character would talk to themselves, this one you seem to play a mute. So not as much talking despite the other characters that pop up, but that isn’t exactly a deal breaker I’m not really that bothered about it.
One thing that did bother me a tiny bit was that this game, compared to the previous one, is a lot more linear. I liked the freedom of jumping in and out the first one had. You tend to just follow the path during this one.
Story wise, it’s alright. I mean, no HOG has really had a thrilling story to it from what I have played. It’s fitting for the genre I guess and subtly follows on from the first game but it’s nothing spectacular.
Again it’s pretty low res, who those who care about this stuff and it took me around 2 hours to finish, so it’s fairly short.
All in all, it’s nothing special but if you are a fan of the genre like I am then I’m sure this little series would be a nice little addition to the collection.
TL;DR: Alright but hasn’t the same charm the first one had. It’s all around a bit ‘meh’, it’s not amazing but it’s not horrendous either. If you like the genre I reckon it would be an alright addition to the collection.
