Update 1.11

Update 1.11 is live and features two minor changes:

1) Fixed and issue where the "That's a lot of Cubes" achievement wasn't unlocking. For players who already gathered 10000 cubes, to unlock the achievement just play through any level again.

2) Reduced the Particles emitted during the Zone1-3 mini-boss encounter to reduce CPU load that was causing frame hitching and performance issues for a number of players.

About This Game

Slip is a fast paced side scrolling platformer that utilizes a two-color swap mechanic to allow the player to evade danger. Slip is not for the faint of heart. It has an immense focus on timing and features devilishly tricky level design. Utilizing your two colors, absorb damage from incoming projectiles of the same color, or be destroyed immediately by the opposite color. Additionally, Slip features colored Geometry that you only interact with when you share its color. This is perfect when you need a place to stand, but can result in instant death if you land on a set of spikes sharing your color. In addition to color based obstacles, Slip is also host to numerous Color driven props. Sharing the color of a launch-ring will shoot you in the direction it faces. Match the color of a gravity well to get sucked in and color swap again to have it launch you in which ever direction you are spinning. Lastly, utilize the phase shift platforms to shift vertically in the direction of your color.

Game Progression:
Slip is split up into 12 levels with an overworld connecting them. Game progression is linear with each level being unlocked when the level before it is beaten. Each level features a plethora of deadly obstacles that result in instant death. However, since the game can be quite difficult, there are frequent checkpoints laid throughout each level. Lives are NOT limited. You can press on until your thumbs are weary.

At the end of every level there is a mini-boss or boss encounter. During these sequences the game switches to an autorun mode where the player can adjust their position on screen by moving left or right. Here, positioning can mean the difference between life and death.

Why we run: The story of Slip.

You play as the devilishly cubie protagonist. You've always been pretty awesome with your ability to swap between 2 colors. You're a pretty sweet deal. Your nemesis Steve, on the other hand, is gross and smooth, nasty and organic. His color is that of a sickly peach. Why doesn't he just swap colors like you? Because he can't. Because he's Steve. In his early years Steve idolized you. He wanted to be you. After a failed attempt to become your sidekick (you don't have sidekicks since you're not a superhero) Steve began to seclude himself from the world. His envy of you grew and turned to hatred and resentment. He worked tirelessly in his lab creating all forms of horrible beings. His greatest triumph however has just been unleashed upon you. You couldn't have foreseen in your wildest dreams that Steve's malice would lead to such a monstrosity as the color purple. And now, it is upon you.

Key Features

  • Steam Leaderboards: Keep track of your rank in every level of Slip. (PC only. The Mac version does not have Steamworks support)
  • Challenge Levels: In addition to the core game levels, there are also 20 challenge levels that really put your platforming skills to the test.
  • Accessory Unlocks - To add a bit of silly to a light hearted game, players can also unlock clothing accessories to wear while playing. These accessories are unlocked by feats of skill while playing. The requirements can range from beating the first level to completing a level without dying.
  • 3 Difficulty Levels - Even though Slip is immensely difficult (in a fair sort of way) players will find that their skill level increases dramatically as they master the art of color swapping. As such, there are 3 levels of play. Normal - 100% gamespeed. Hard - 110% gamespeed. And Sassy - 120% gamespeed. These percentages might not sound intimidating, but they are really quite dramatic in the context of Slip

I really think this game is really fun! This is now my favourite game.

It is full of exicting challenges! And I was well... Uhhh... When I saw Steve's face. XD

But anyway, the only negative thing about this is the lag. On a low spec computer like mine, you have to lower the quality down to low however it still looks high, you still fill the tiniest lag.

I highly reccomend this game!

I can't really recommend this game as it is, but I may be biased, so it gets a "yes" anyway.

It's quite "simple". You are a thing. You run. You jump. You dodge. The interesting bit is that you can change your color from blue to red and vice versa, which is really neat and has been done in the past and only recently with Outlander as well.

This game is for hardcore players. Seriously. I consider myself an above average skilled gamer, esp. with platformers, but this game got me on the mini boss fight in level THREE on EASY (there are 2 more difficulties). It gets frantic pretty quick, the levels are really long and save points are more or less fairly placed on the maps. You are constantly being chased by a purple beam of death, which adds to the frantic nature of the game. Double jumping, wall jumping, switching colors multiple times within 2 seconds while jumping and dodging spikes...yea...nope. Just cannot cope with that.

Usually I wouldn't blame a game on my deficiencies, BUT the game's controls are horribly floaty. There is no precision here, but it is absolutely required.

Conclusion: If you want a really challenging game with an interesting mechanic, are not prone to suffering epileptical attacks and can cope with the dodgy controls, go for it when it's on sale. Otherwise: Good effort, but only a b product in my opinion.

Slip aka the real impossible game.

Slip is a really nice looking, but simple indie game. The way of playing is easy to understand: You are a little guy, who can change its colour to red or blue. The obstacles are also red and blue and you can only pass them if your character has the same colour as the obstacle. Well, it sounds pretty easy (of course it is in the first part), but it will become very frustrating at later levels (it becomes really fast, the colours are being mixed very swiftly, you'll be chased by your enemy (a guy in a ufo) etc.). It's not exactly the same, but just imagine you'd play the 'Impossible game' with this feature and you know what I'm talking about. I'm playing/played this game on normal difficulty and it was really hard. I don't know if there is any person on earth, who can handle the highest difficulty level (if yes, contact me please).
Summary: Slip is a nice diversion, but you'll probably need a break after you have played it for more than 30 minutes, cuz otherwise you might smash something into pieces :D. I recommend this game, because it is challenging (not like the other mainstream ♥♥♥♥ today) and nicely done. And of course I'm rating the game and not my skill.

When I sit down to write a review, even for a game I actively despised, I try to stay away from overly abrasive sentences and opt for something a little more elegant with my criticism. Slip doesn't deserve this. While people often wave around hyperbolic remarks with little thought as to whether they really mean them, it's with no lack of deliberation that I say Slip is complete and utter garbage on a scale I haven't had the displeasure of since grinding my teeth through Rush Bros. Simultaneously taking the best ideas from numerous games and reworking them into an intensely unpleasant mess, there's little here that could inspire even a halfhearted compliment, yet alone any reason you should waste your time playing it.

The basic mechanics behind Slip are straightforward, partly from simplicity and because we've seen them quite a few times before. You take control of a little running jumping voxel man with the power to swap his color, and sent out into deathtrap obstacle courses with a big ♥♥♥ laser chasing you from behind. Each obstacle in the game itself also corresponds to one of your two colors, and thus requires you to swap your polarity to make it through alive.

To put it in relative terms, it's Ikaruga and Giana Sisters with a touch of Bit.Trip Runner and Super Meat Boy thrown in for good effect. All excellent games in their own right, but when mashed together in as disorganized a way as Slip show no resemblance of the quality of what they once were.

The polarity mechanic is among the first to falter, with no consistency as to whether the same or opposing color is what kills you, and requiring you to switch at a speed that requires copious amounts of luck to pull off consistently. The level designs are routine and poorly paced, as if you took a dozen different levels, handpicked the most frustrating segments from each, and then placed them end to end for the player to suffer through. It's difficult without being enjoyable, failing to recreate either the tightly designed torture of Super Meat Boy or the meticulously structured trial-and-error of Bit.Trip Runner. As a self professed masochistic gamer I love a good challenge more than most, but making failure entertaining is a lot harder than simply making the game hard, and Slip is entirely inept at knowing how to manage this.

It also liberally misuses what I like to call 'artificial content'; something that keeps you playing the game but doesn't actually show you anything new. Slip does this by making you repeat large segments of the game through its absurd difficulty, but should you actually manage to clear the levels the severe lack of content becomes readily apparent. I can only assume the developer intended for each level to be replayed multiple times for better scores and on higher difficulties, but this means nothing if those levels were not fun the first time through.

I can understand not every indie developer can be a great artist, but if nothing else I expect the art design in their games to be consistent. Mixing voxel backdrops with neon obstacles and pseudo realistic bosses, Slip is all over the place and it's all ugly. The lackluster performance is inexcusable (I even had it crash on me at one point), and the lack of any sound effects save the underwhelming death "fuzz" simply strikes me as lazy. I can't comment on the music because it doesn't even feel like part of the game, just something playing over it as if the in game sound was disabled.

Slip was something that immediately caught my eye when I first saw it, but after getting the chance to try it first hand I'm severely disappointed. I'm honestly scratching my head to come up with something nice to say about it, but it really does botch every single thing it tries. If you've read this far and for some reason are still considering purchasing it yourself, please, do yourself a favor and play any of the other games I've mentioned first (or replay them if you already have). There's a world of outstanding games doing what Handsome Games was going for, but Slip isn't one of them and you should rest easy knowing you won't have to play it yourself.

Ladies and gentlemen ! I present you the new Super Meat BOY!!!

WARNING ! This game is 4573 times harder than SuperMeatBoy combined with VVVVV

BUT DAMN This game is really fun with great looking Graphics

The gaming style ? You just keep on running and Switching Blue to Red
If you touch anything thats red while blue ( Except for points) You will die
And if you touch anything thats Blue while Red ( Also except for points ) Guess what ? YOU DIE!

So its really hard and confusing to keep switching between while running + avoiding things and jumping

The game starts easily with a lol story that i dont even get but its
And gets harder and harder and HARDER AND HARDER

But not just "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ly..ish .. whatever" hard no its challenging and fun to replay

The game has a soothing calming soundtracks while playing the game because i think they figured if it did not have that we would have broken the Keyboard Or Controller or the whole damn pc or just burn the house...

If you are confused about what the game is and how screenshots are weird

No its no fighting game its just a Fact Paced Running game ( You can stop tho :3 ) That you keep on dodging and switching between Red and Blue To well .. not die

I would say this game is a must buy for hardcore gamers who enjoys a hard as **** Good Fast Platformer Game
+ Also like (Super meat boy ) Levels has a secret Bonus level in them ( Not much of a secret its really obvious but w/e)
+Challenge mode that got a lot of challenging maps and you will grow a white 5 meter long beard before finishing them :|

What i do not like about the game is that RED is my favorite color And SLIP Contains 3 Blue letters : (

Requires reflexes, memory, planning and patience in spades. Slip doesn't start off easy, and just when you're getting used to the controls, it gets harder again. I think I'm about half-way through, and each segment is still a new, and occasionally frustrating, challenge.

This game is great! I beat it while it was in beta, and I'm going to have to try my hand again now that there's a leaderboard.
The beauty of the game is that it's so fast-paced and intense, and as you learn every next checkpoint seems just impossible. But you continue, and you do a little better every time, and before you know it you can beat half of the game without dying (the half that claimed your life thousands of times before).

It's intense, yet calming. The music and the colors just make it impossible to get angry at all of the dying you're busy with.
I'd recommend it for casuals and hardcores alike (I'm somewhere in the middle), for this very reason. It's hard to think of a demographic that this game wouldn't be good for.

Total play time for my first run through was about 8 hours.

This game is full of fun and difficulty. Difficulty first because this game is hard as nails. I'm not sure if it's just that a lot of people dont play online, but at this current point, only two people have made it past 2-2 (one of them being me), and one person past 2-3, since I haven't gotten that far, and I'm on the easiest difficulty. But you will be spending a LOT of time trying to beat this. The color changing mechanic makes this tough as nails, and all of the bullet-hell elements in it makes it equally insanely difficult. Every end level boss will beat you to a pulp, and you'l enjoy every second.

The game is definitely a fun one. Very lighthearted, and loves to have fun. Its meant to be fun, and doesn't beat you up for losing. It's got a lot of little fun bits and you can unlock fun little accessories, so you can have a good time, so long as you don't ragequit first.

Slip is a Freaking Slippy game where you play as Slip a 3D Voxel Charater that can change between the 2 colors Blue and Red and you goal is to defeat your nemisis Steve who always looked up to you but you turned him down. Did i mention Steve invented the color Purple? Hint Hint?

This game is amazing! I've just started a Let's Play on it and I'm fairly certain that "Slip" is going to push me to my limits. The controls are fairly easy to learn, but it's extremely hard to master these to the point that you can glide through levels easily. It looks beautiful, and man do you have to time the jumps and colour swaps perfectly..

Really the thing holding me back from a recommendation is the poor checkpointing; way too much replaying of segments because they're both too long and take memorization to learn. This is a fun game when you know the levels and not fun at all when you don't.

It's also barely a platformer, really, as the switching mechanic is 90% of the challenge, but it's executed well and in a variety of different ways, which keeps it fresh and interesting. There are only 12 levels though so maybe it could've served to be a bit longer... wait, nah, because it does kind of overstay its welcome due to how much you have to replay each segment of the later levels :T

Also, the switching mechanic feels like it has a slight delay and the spinning circle things that launch you don't seem to work quite right all the time. Just a few observations. If you want a challenging game that's fun to play when you know what you're doing but horribly unfun when you don't, check this one out. Really cannot recommend it to the average player though, even if I do kind of like it.

Slip is one tough run and jumpish platformer. It's somewhat like a mix between Super Meat Boy and BIT TRIP. Runner. What makes this game unique though is the use of the color switch gimmick. It starts of quite easy (even at "sassy" difficulty) but gets much harder pretty fast.

You need to collect as much cubes as you can in each level and try not to lose too many lives in hopes of a score bonus, there is also a multiplier for going really fast and passing through a number of checkpoints without dying. Every level ends with a mini boss battle, which is usually even more tough than the level itself.

On top of the 12 levels that are included in the main game (don't worry, the game isn't as short as you'd think, it takes some mastering before you can reach the final boss), there are also 20 challenge maps which focus on platforming skills (those resemble Super Meat Boy the most). It would probably also be a good idea to mention the leaderboards (which work really nicely) and the handful of unlocks for different achievements like beating a level without dying.

When it comes to the downsides - I didn't quite enjoy the music. The soundtrack consists of slow electronical tunes which I found to be quite unfitting with the fast pace of the game. I'm sure a lot of people think differently (maybe even rightfully so) but I think a drum'n'bass soundtrack would be much better if done well. I also believe that not everyone may like memorising the boss patterns for example, but I think it's great myself to be honest.

All in all, I believe this is a great indie title and I'm hoping it gets the critical acclaim it deserves. I'd recommend it to all the tough as nails platformer lovers. I'd give it an 8/10.
