Chaos Domain is an indie game which single handedly illustrates everything that is wrong with AAA game development.
I had read the reviews, I had listened to TotalBiscuts WTF Is, I had perused screenshots and checked out gameplay footage. I knew exactly what Chaos Domain was and how bad it was. Yet when I started that first level up, I STILL was disappointed and let down. This game is the posterchild of terrible game design; the controls are crap, the animations are janky, you can only aim while moving in the direction you’re aming, and the entire game looks dreadful in action. I don’t know how they budgeted out the creation of this game, but I have to imagine that 85-90% of the entire development budget went to the visual fidelity of the levels and characters. Aside from those two aspects, everything else in the game is neglected. Even the art assets for the pickups look like they were thrown in at the last minute. I don’t remember where I got this game (I know I didn’t pay for it, thank god) but even going into it expecting garbage, Chaos Domain still managed to not live up to my expectations. High definition textures, dynamic lighting and fancy particle effects don't make a game good, only good gameplay can do that.
