About This Game

Chaos Domain is a game about shooting bad people in the face.

Apart from that, it is also a run and gun platformer, powered by Unreal Engine. The game is highly influenced by games from 8-bit and 16-bit era, including Contra/Probotector series, as well as titles like Abuse and Doom Troopers.

The game is set on a huge spaceship occupied by chaos cultists, where the main character (who clearly looks like a hi-tech version of the god Anubis) must kill everyone in sight. The game is obviously not story-driven, it’s all about action.

Players can upgrade weapons and purchase special items that can boost their performance. Local co-op for 2 players is available.

• Classic gameplay.
• 10 levels split into sub-areas, which gives us about 30 stages.
• Upgradable weapons and a range of special abilities to choose from.
• Pure hardcore run and gun action.
• Traditional 2 Player local co-op.

This is a broken game and you should not waste your time on it, when I originally bought it, the game worked about 50% of the time and then you reach a certain point and the game completey stops, never to work again. The developers offer no support on the matter, so you should not risk spending your money on something that most likely will not work.

In the event the game does work, it is still a pretty poor game, and not nearly as good as the original contra, which is sad, given that Contra is about 30 years old. Your main character is Anubis, althoug there is no story as to why or how that ties into Egyptian mythology, and you just run through the levels, which all look the same and fight the same looking enemies over and over again. It is very repetitive and the placement and attack patterns of the enemies do not induce that heart pounding tension that these types of games are supposed to produce.

There is an upgrade system in place, where you can buy useless temporary upgrades and upgrade your terrible gun into a slightly less terrible gun, also power ups are few and far between, which means you will spend most levels armed with oonly your basic pea shooter, which further adds to the monotony of this game.

I just got this game today for free.
Great looking screenshots made me think 'Hey, its like Contra'. .. No its not..
Its bleak, empty, and feels loosly put together. Hardly any polish.
No thought has gone in to making the levels (the first 3 i tried anyway).
If this was an ongoing project then I would have hope, but if they are calling this the finished game then im done with it.

Length of Time Played: 7 Hours
Distance Played: Beat The Game

Opinion of Each Aspect (Sorted By Importance)

Gameplay: Poor
Stability: Horrendous
Controls: Acceptable
Difficulty: Acceptable
Sounds: Poor
Graphics: Acceptable
Music: Acceptable
Story: Horrendous

Other Notes:
Ease of 100% Achievements: Impossible - Half of the achievements are broken and will not unlock. Grinding is required.
Replay Value: None - There are plenty of better Contra Style Shooters out there.
Crashes: Level 2-2 tends to crash on occasion. It's been 7 months and still no fix.

Personal Grade: D

Unreliable platforming, sloppy controls, and a truly annoying soundtrack. I got this game for free and I want a refund.

Here is all you need to know about Chaos Domain: One hit kills you, levels can be up to five minutes long, and there are no checkpoints. I'm going to talk about many more aspects of the game because that's kinda my thing, but the key takeaway here is how poorly balanced the challenge is. It's a problem so huge that regardless of what you think of the rest, it makes the game virtually unplayable. But don't fret, the rest is garbage too.

Chaos Domain dumps you into the cyberboots of future Anubis, fighting hundreds of cyberdudes along wholly unremarkable cybercorridors. Levels have only two components, hallways of fixed height that only scroll in one direction, and shafts that you can platform up and down freely. Platforms mostly hold enemies that fire slow, creeping bullets and die in one hit, but can also be laden with health pickups (more like 1-ups), new guns, or point-granting ankhs. I will go ahead and tell you now, I have no idea what is up with the Egyptian theme, especially since it only extends to the player character and point items.

There are ten chapters, three levels to a chapter. They take a few minutes to run through, assuming you are quick on the draw and don't touch any of the numerous enemies, bullets, explosives, explosive barrels, electrified floors, or glitchy crushers littering the levels. One touch of anything instantly kills you, respawning you in place a moment later and costing you one of your three lives. Lose all three and you start the whole level over. The problem here should be apparent, because as early as the second chapter you'll be fighting shooting dudes, running dudes, grenade dudes, and rocket launcher dudes all at once.

I was unimpressed but tolerant until the final level of chapter two. There's an elevator that cages you in and brings you to a floor with a dude that shoots you immediately. A few minutes later you have to fight the chapter boss, who is fully invincible while spraying shots at you and is only vulnerable while sending waves of dudes to kamikaze you. And when you lose all of your limited lives, you get to do the whole level over, murdervator and all. Even if the graphics weren't bland and strangely grainy, even if the weapons didn't feel like Nerf guns, and even if there were some kind of story at all, Chaos Domain would still be too incompetently designed to stick with. The lowest bar you can set for a platformer is to have a reasonable sort of challenge, and it can't even clear that.

Chaos Domain is a bland, uninspring platformer in which you jump around and shoot the bad guys. The controls are slippery and there are some performance issues. The game gets very boring very quickly, as there is no story whatsoever and the gameplay gets repetitive. There are some upgrades for your character, but they don't seem to do all that much. I got the game for free, but I'll probably never play through it.

Was raging hard: Wing
Let's start with one basic thing - The game isn't that bad IF YOU HAVE A CONTROLLER! Playing this game on keyboard is like rubbing your genitalias on sharp knifes.
The Game is really unforgiving - Yes it is, but it's kinda fair, you die from 1 hit, they (mostly) die from 1 hit, few enemies need several hits but fully upgraded Standard Gun can do the job.
The Bosses are unbeatable - No they aren't, remember you can still bug the game by pushing F2 and play with 2nd character when main dies. Back to bosses, final boss isn't even hard enough, I killed him in first try, but few of them are really tough to beat, but still, possible
I heard that achievements are bugged, but luckily I didn't had that problem
- Chaos Domain is Contra-like game, it's very hard and unforgiving, without controller you can destroy your computer and finally the game isn't that bad as reviews say, in my opinion:
Gameplay - 7/10
Audio - 4/10
Graphics - 5/10
Hardness - 8/10
If you got this game for free or on promotion, it's good, but not worth 10€.

The first negative review I've written and certainly not something I take much pleasure in.

Chaos Domain as has been mentioned by many reviewers is a return to the age old Contra formula, static 8 directional shooting (much like the sort a classic D-pad was meant for) with awkward platforming, enemies that can shoot you through platforms that are supposed to be solid objects and ridiculously slippy controls without all the fluidity of Contras double jumping, this game is best left on the wayside.

For those of you like me, who don't own a 360 controller and don't necessarily see it as a requirement for games on a PC- don't get me started, the control scheme is a nightmare. I'm left handed and the standard controls are made with a right handed user in mind so you'll need to go through the borish task of arranging them to better suit you. The keyboard controls are poorly responsive and in a twitch shooting game where dozens of enemies might be shooting at you at once this is unacceptable.

Now on to the basics, I played one mission- that's three sections of a map that are broken up to create a single mission- so three 'check points' as it were. The beginning of the game as you might expect has you running to the right- but not able to return to the left (!) to collect missed pick ups or kill enemies and has you repeat this process three times, all while being shot by enemies through floors and walls, ceilings and anything else they seem to teleport their bullets through, which would be forgivable if you didn't get three lives (and one continue on the easier difficulty per check point) and died when you were hit once.

At the end of the first mission I was faced with a boss that is clearly a rip off of the loader from Aliens and other titles in the same franchise where it might well crop up. You are on a conveyor being dragged towards it while it fires either on a platform above it, or down the conveyor you are travelling on. You MUST hit it in the cockpit, meaning you need to be on the upper platform- not an issue, if not for the respawning guy on the platform above, lobbing grenades down at you that have an AOE far larger than is indicated by the explosion shown on screen.

It was at this point I turned the game off, and cursed myself for even bothering to pick it up.

I'm not going to list pros and cons for this, as I can't be bothered to do so. I'll simply offer my honest advice, keep your money, don't waste your time and don't waste a friends time- unless he/she and you are equally brain dead, by forking cash over for this half baked attempt at a classic and realized concept. Your friendship will swiftly end, your irritation will reach maximum levels in record time and your relatives will swiftly disown you if they learn you have this in your library.

Arid level design filled with sloppy platforming, glitchy controls and slightly annoying soundtrack. Based on screenshots you might think that this game will be a decent Contra clone, but it isnt, not the slightest. It is a bleak platformer in which your sole purpose is to jump around and kill some bad guys.

It needs some serious maintenance in order to be playable at all. Controls especially.

Do NOT buy this game. I got it for free and believe me it's not worth any sum of your money.

No, don’t even think about this game. Chaos Domain is absolutely terrible. I could barely stand 10 minutes of it. No story, just puts you into the game. No explanations of controls, had to switch to controller just to play it and even then the controls were awkward and terrible. So hard to aim and cannot aim down. Enemies can shoot through platforms while you cannot. Everything kills you. Going near an enemy kills you. And the boss fights are more frustrating than Dark Souls! This is just terrible.

Chaos Domain is meant to be a fun and entertaining Side-Scroller Shooting Game but actually fails to do so. This game is so hard that it's actually impossible and it is not fun at all. After around 15 minutes of playing this game, I was already bored and I felt like I needed to kill myself. The controls are unresponsive basically ruining your chance of completing hardly any levels. On controller the controls are a little better but they are still quite unresponsive at times. Don't waste your time playing this game, it's not worth it.

The game is a Contra clone. A very unforgiving one, with bad controls, an upgrade system that's almost hidden (you need to press F1 twice to upgrade weapons), and copy-paste enemies for the entirety of 30 stages. There's co-op, but only on the same computer. I don't recommend it at all.

Not so good a game. Controls aren't sticky enough to make it good, you kinda float with the jumps and shots and there are times where you feel cheated because of the controls. There are a few bugs that you can reproduce without isssue, you'll be playing and wonder why the game crashes for no reason. After a google search you'll see others are having the same issue.

Could be better if varied bad guys existed instead of just a handful, upgrades suck and the way to upgrade sucks and the game is just boring.
