LOVE Update #11 - Alternative Money Spending Techniques

Hey, Fred Wood here. I hope you're all enjoying LOVE, getting achievements, and setting speedrun records. I've had a number of requests for merchandise of different kinds, so I've got a couple of updates on that front:

LOVE Soundtrack
▪ The Soundtrack for LOVE is now available in the highest quality we could muster, with the full versions of every track found in the game. I've combed through various files sent to me by James since about 2006, and I think that this really is the ultimate collection of the LOVE Soundtrack.
▪ As a bonus, there's a Side B Collection that comes free with the soundtrack that includes a bunch of, well, B-Sides that have been used in different LOVE builds, and an alternate cut of one of the LOVE tracks.

LOVE Decals (from

▪ I've started a side business (because I'm a big fan of being busy all the time) of creating high quality custom-cut decals! While working with the fine folks at Vlambeer on their decals, I decided to make a couple of my own, so you can find the LOVE Logo or the LOVE Player decals at my site.

And in other news, I've been able to get LOVE up and running on Mac AND Linux, though I'm running into trouble with actually distributing the game. I haven't figured out how to deploy the game properly to Steam from the respective platforms, and I don't have a dedicated Linux box (yet). I know that there are many players who want to be able to play LOVE on their Macbooks and otherwise, so I want to get this working, and I want to make it available to you.

Thanks for all of your support, and if you find yourself needing some people talking in your ear I've got a couple of suggestions for ya:
▪ The Bancast -
▪ The Lone Stars Podcast -
Both are shows I work on, and I'd love it if you'd give them a try.

Thanks for your time, and I love you all very much.

Love Update #10 - Making Life Easier

Just pushed through another minor patch. There's been an outcry about the difficulty of the Gotta Go Fast achievement, so I've increased the time from 10 minutes to 12 minutes. Also, I've dug through old archived folders and found some slightly higher quality source audio for the game, so you might notice that James' gorgeous tones are the slightest bit cleaner and sweeter.

So actual patch notes:

  • Improved Audio
  • Gotta Go Fast Achievement increased from 10 Minutes to 12 Minutes

What a great retro-style platformer. Quite a surprise...

Extremely fluid controls, solid and challenging level design. Sound and music are perfectly suited and not annoying.

For something basic, this is really about as good as it gets. Recommended to any fan of 2D platformers.

I was suckered in by the tag Great Soundtrack. It seems I'm in the minority who doesn't agree the soundtrack is all that fantastic. The platforming is mildly well designed at best, and certainly doesn't hold a candle up to a game like Super Meat Boy, for instance. There definitely aren't enough levels to keep me coming back for too long.

Well, for all that I have to gripe about it, it's still only $3, and I bought it at $1 in a sale, so frankly for the price tag there's very little to complain about. You still get a good amount of entertainment for your money, and the one song in the soundtrack worth the tag Great Soundtrack is indeed Great. Take a listen to Kid, it's well worth your time.

Love is a short, but very fun indie platformer. There is no story. It's just pure platforming.

The game has five different modes
Arcade Mode: You have 100 lives and an unlimited number of checkpoints.
Easy Mode: You have unlimited lives, but you score less points.
YOLO Mode: You only get one life.
Speedrun Mode: You have to try and beat the game as fast as possible.
Remix Mode: 8 additional remixed levels.

The main game has 16 levels, while Remix Mode offers 8 additional remixed levels. All of which are short, but moderately challenging. There are a lot of indie platformers out there that are ridiculously hard. This one offers a challenge, but doesn't feel impossible to beat. Unless of course, you're playing on YOLO mode. That really does feel impossible at times. As I said, the game is short. There's even an achievement for completing the speedrun in under 12 minutes. That should give you an idea of the length of this game. Still, it took me a little over 5 hours to get 18/19 achievements. It's also worth noting that the soundtrack is fantastic.

If you're a fan of platformers, I'd definitely recommend this. It's a short game, but it's well worth the price it's listed. If you're looking for a story, this doesn't have one. However, if you just want a good platformer that's moderately challenging, I think you'll enjoy it.

Simple. Relaxing. And just challenging enough.
But lacks a bit in replayability.
