I paid $30.00 for this tool that I could have made in Visual Studio 2012 (I am a programmer). It is not only made with bad English grammar, but has a lot of unhandeled errors which will crash the program in the middle of useage. I may not have that much time on with this program, but I can tell you that I have explored the aspects of it. There is no tutorial to read off of either, so it is all mainly figuring it out.

For $30.00, try to stick to another program.

The PC version of Final Draft is possibly the most comprehensive bit of kit for embarking on this screenwriting malarky, but MovieWriterPro is worth having as a backup, or even as a cheaper alternative. Oddly enough, it loads up with a hideously written demo. The first thing to do is erase it, as it appears to be written by someone who has just emptied a tin of alphabetti spaghetti all over your monitor. But once you remove the graffiti, MovieWriterPro does have all the nice little features which are very helpful to those of us who are terrible at organising their work. Simple things such as character profiles, backgrounds, objectives etc. are all neatly catagorised so the author can drop in and out and tweak / save progress with relative ease. All the basics for screenplay writing are drawn from the rather simple, yet effective template. You can insert 'INT.', 'EXT', 'DAY', 'NIGHT', 'LOCATION' etc. into each portion of text with simple clicks of the mouse. Stuff like that might sound marginal, but it does help speed things up. You can use this software without the need for any extensive tutorial, so it's basically straightforward. I can't say I'd use only this to write a screnplay, as that would involve being stuck at the monitor too long, and that apllies to the desktop version of Final Draft too. I personally find using the iPad version of Final Draft the most practical, although it's features are limited. But I would recommend MovieWriterPro as a helpful assistant, as you can keep plenty of helpful information nicely and neatly filed, for any project.

I'm fairly disappointed with this program. It's good for put together concepts in an organized fashion however with no tutorials, few features and little knowledge on how traditional scripting is done you can't create much of a story. I'd wait til' this gets some updates, other then the spellcheck feature. (if it ever does.) If that happens my verdict will likely change. But I simply can't recommend this to anyone.

EDIT: Before I say anything, a bit of context: A while ago the creator of this program messaged me saying he saw my review and wanted my opinion on where I should improve. So I wrote up a little rant about what was confusing, what was broken etc., and I have since found that many those problems have been fixed. (There is still no immediately visible tutorial however if you fiddle a bit with it you'll find a link to a tutorial on there website, which is actually quite informative.) I now believe the creators are dedicated to this project I think it has much potential.

I'm very much a beginner at writing scripts for films, but this is a very, very good thing to have. I bought it the other night, and have been working feverishly at the script I've been brainstorming for the last couple of years. The preset functions (auto-adding action/dialogue cues, etc) are a major time saver, and being able to see how it would look on a PDF before printing out helps to ensure the script has that professional touch.

The price is what caught my eye, and the ease of use makes me very happy to check this program out.

I don't know of what else is out there. I've seen some pretty expensive stuff, but this has exactly what I was looking for. I'd recommend this for anyone.

Glad I bought this while it was on sale, the software is good for what it is intended (writing a script) the problem lies with the interface, simple human computer interactions installed in most of us from using word processors do not work, i had difficulty deleting text from my script and other stuff normally done with the backspace on a keyboard.

Perhaps I entered a weird mode where backspace was disabled but as someone who usually codes using things like netbeans for a hobby, I found it more time consuming than using an existing word processor that you can find on the internet for free.

My advice is to avoid at it's current price, wait till it goes down in price or is on sale, and no not buy if like me you don't have spare time to invest in learning an overally complex interface.

my advice to the developers will sound silly but dumb down the script writing section and comform to modern interface design, the rest of your program in terms of being able to make notes etc is fine but the actual script writing section needs significant work

I was going to give this a positive review as the software is mostly helpful in writing scripts. This however is not worth the price tag. Use google docs or any another free word processor. The fact there are only two options to choose in the settings dropdown should be a good indication. Any control of fonts and colors would be nice. The ability to even save to a specific location you would think would be standard since Win95. An export option that includes the headers in the script needs to be an option. Alas, it has none of these feature you would expect.

MovieWriterPro is a brilliant utility for any soon-to-be screen writer, if you are interested in script-writing then I highly recommend buying this software. The company is really helpful in terms of technical support, so that is one huge plus. An easy 10/10. Get this software, you will not regret it.

Nice simple program to help piece together any script/movie idea's into a finished semi professional format. Like how i can bring up microsoft word windowed in program and select text and drag directly in. Saves heaps of retyping. Makes you think more about the simple details too, like character background stories and more.

- small quick download
- easy way of formating movie idea's
- easy text drag and drop in
- No tutorial
- It's a basic word progam not worth $30 (get on sale)

I recommend this to anyone with any creative movie idea's that wants to go to the next level.

Buy this if only to read the hillariously broken script it comes with.

As an aspiring screenwriter, I find this program sensational. It is now the only one I want to use.
Other users have adressed faults with formatting, a lack of guide to how traditional scripting works, a need for more features, etc.
The thing is though, if you know what it is you're doing, this programme no longer has those faults.
All it takes is a quick search in google for "screenplay template" or "Format samples" or something along those lines. Once you have that information, this app is a dream.
with inputs such as: Info, synopsis, characters, places, notes, statistics, and other elements, in addition to the script, keeping on track is very easy. There is also a shotcut key at the bottom of the window that makes everything very intuitive.
I found myself more motivated in my writing whilst using this program purely due to ease of use, and lack of needing to self-format (format manually)
You should account the negative reviews to a lack of interest/effort.
Once you get going with this, you won't need, nor want for another scriptwriting program.
It is more suited for screenplays, but also works well for stage plays.

Worked great until I realized I couldn't save...
Emailed the developer and they said a fix would be out soon.
