Reviews

“DCS: A10C Warthog is a tremendously – and at times obscenely – demanding game. You will experience cranial overload, and you will, unless you're a devout ED disciple, curse the developer for being so damned cryptic. But for those who favor stepping into the shoes of a real pilot who flies but a single plane, and for those who are willing to commit fully to a program that may well take months to evolve, this is the current peak of the genre.”
8/10 – IGN

“DCS: A-10C Warthog isn’t for everyone—this is a simulation that demands dedication to reveal its true worth, and only those prepared to put in the time and effort to mine its treasure trove of avionics challenges will see that reward. The Hog is a relatively easy aircraft to fly, but doing so while battling armed forces with this brutally realistic weapons delivery platform is one of the most challenging—and intensely satisfying—undertakings you’ll ever face in a PC flight sim.”
92/100 – PC Gamer

Question : You guys want to know how difficult it is to learn to fly this beast?

Answer : You gotta have to write down a check-list upon starting-up, before take-off, Navigation, Landing & So-much more! You gotta have ALOT of time spent into learning this plane. already spent 50+ hours learning this beast!

Remember that our plane has an eject button

*Note: Listed Steam game hours are not accurate as I don't typically launch DCS from steam. I have more hours in this Sim then I care to know about*

Nobody currently does it better then DCS. This module is by far the best combat simulation on the market. That however comes at a price, the 672 page flight manual that is pretty much required reading to master this killing machine. You won't need to read it cover to cover but it's a invaluable tool for reference and learning. I broke it down into sections around the cockpit and that made it far less intimidating.

Once you master the Hogs various flight systems and weapons platform nothing is more rewarding. Railing Mavericks and dropping CBU's all over the backside of your enemys never gets old. And that 30mm Cannon stuffed in the nose? ya....

If you're a serious flight simmer you probably already have DCS, But If you are new to flight sims and looking to try your hand at realism ED's DCS products is a great place to jump into the Sim world. From the Flaming cliffs Module to the P-51 Mustang to Combined Arms there is more fun and complexity then you can shake a GAU-8 Avenger at.

From dodging SAMs at 20 ft above the deck to firing Mavericks from 10 miles away to dropping into a 30mm gun run in a 30 deg dive, this sim has it all. Granted, this is a study sim, so it's not for everybody. But if you want to know what flying a real A-10C Warthog feels like, you're not gonna get any closer unless you join the Air Force as an officer and hope the A-10 program doesn't get shutdown. Plus the BRRRRRTTTTTT is ♥♥♥♥♥♥ic. 30mm/10 would BRRT again.

Insanly detailed in every way, from A-10 model itself to the detail in it's handling.

This game is the apex of flight simulation and will probably end up spoiling you due to the level of detail.

It's perfect, but READ THE MANUAL. Otherwise, this game isn't for you. It's way too hardcore if you don't take the time to learn it. Yes, you LEARN this game. Not play it.

If you want a challenge get this game.

At some point in the cold war people were very afraid of the russian tanks and somebody had the bright idea to build a big ♥♥♥ gun to kill them. The gun was cool, could kill tanks, but couldn't move and was an easy target for said tanks... But some smart engineers thought, WAIT, what if this gun could fly around and shoot tanks from the air!?

The Warthog was born.

DCS:A10C manages to capture me now for nearly a year and I swear everyone should get this and try his hand, not just a few hours jumping in, but really trying! It truly deserves the title 'Study-sim' and the amount of ♥♥♥♥ you can do is unbelievable. Even after a year I still discover new functions, quirks and little tricks.

But even a noob can have great fun just shooting that gun on an airfield or just try his hand at landings. Once he gets past setting up his joystick of course. :)

the most realistic flight sim that ive ever played. Definatley recommend it to the airplane enthusiasts. But be warned... there is a steep learning curve to learn to fly this airplane.

An Aircraft that is built around a 4200 round per second 30mm Gatling gun is always one to be feared. Then add a multitude of rockets, bombs, and missiles and wonder if this is really a tool of war, or some preposterous design used purely for the entertainment of armchair pilots. It’s both. Thanks to Eagle Dynamics’ Digital Combat Simulator: A-10C simulation. While the mere thought of flying the A-10C should get simulation experts mouth’s watering, this is a game that is currently blowing ALL other ground attack simulators out of the ground.

The DCS series has come to be known for it’s high fidelity simulations that were first apparent on the Ka-50 Blackshark. It’s no different in the A-10C, almost every switch is flippable, every dial works and the aircraft entirely distractable. The aircraft works in a way that is almost identical to the real thing.

There is, however, a downside to the depth of the simulation: it can get very, very complex and has a huge learning curve. It’s essential that you have a HOTAS joystick for this game, or at least be comfortable with remembering a lot of keyboard short-cuts and aircraft procedures. All of this while trying to fly with a painstakingly crafted flight model, again echoing the real aircraft’s performance traits.

If you’d rather not have to worry so much about flying, shooting and avoiding being shot at in a highly realistic scenario, then there is always a ‘game’ mode option to turn down the realism and place you firmly back in your comfort zone.

Not all of what I mentioned is exclusive to single player, either. You can join up with up to 32 friends and work with or against each other in a multitude of missions created in a fully functional map editor. Thanks to the DCS world system, you dont even have to be flying in the same aircraft. Su-25T’s, UH-1 Huey’s, P-51’s among others, can fill the skies together.

One of the only downsides about the simulator comes with the map, however. The ground isn’t of the highest visual prowess, and the location isn’t prime for some of the action in a P-51D. However, it is certainly functional, a sandbox that can be recognised as more or less anywhere in Europe. The rest of the graphics, however, are superb -

If you’re a Sim nut and are looking for something with action, a learning curve and brilliant realism, then here is where you need to stop. Along with the other titles in the DCS series (of which there are many), the A-10C is one of those titles that anyone professing to be a Simulator fanatic needs to own; it’s quite easily the benchmark for this generation of flight simulators.
