Hi everyone,

Our apologies for the delay on this patch, and thanks for waiting. We ran into a couple unforeseen issues while packing and uploading the build today that needed to be resolved before anything could be released.

Added autosaving feature.
Added feature to upload your own image in character creation.
Adjusted duration of status effects and fixed status lock issue.
Provided additional info for melee weapons, ranged weapons, and armor on inventory screen.
Further improved build stability and resolved rare crash cases.
Fixed issue with landmines causing errors with saved games; however, we're sorry to say that older saves with this issue cannot be recovered.
Adjusted dialogues and dialogue triggers in multiple maps.
Polished some levels and building models.
Adjusted loot distribution and balance.
Clarified text on some perks and items.
Optimized pathfinding to interactable objects.
Updated blocking in some areas.
Addressed cases of shelter activity not correctly appearing in the field.
Set flare gun ammo cap to six shots as per original design.
Adjusted “Be It Ever So Humble” Achievement to account for the correct number of upgrades.
Adjusted Elaine’s perk to correctly affect her Melee skill instead of her Medical skill.

About Delays
We on the team understand how excited you are to get the new patches as soon as possible, and we do our absolute best to do it in the time we estimate. However, sometimes unexpected things happen and we have to release past our estimated time or day. We do our best to communicate delays either through announcements, responses on threads, or by asking our mods to help answer questions as they come in, and we work as quickly as we can to get the content to you.

We don't expect you to not feel annoyed when you're awaiting a delayed patch. However, it's against our community policy to attack or harass anyone as an expression of that annoyance, whether they're a dev, a mod, or another player. What's Next?
The next patch will be in mid to late January, and it will include a mix of content and fixes. We'll be taking a brief hiatus for the late December holidays in the meantime, although we'll be checking up on things often. We're excited about what's to come in the future, and we hope you are too :)

Update on Patch Progress

Hi everyone,

I know you're eagerly awaiting the next patch, so I wanted to give you an update on how it's coming along. We originally anticipated having it live today; however, we're now eyeing tomorrow morning (10 - 11 a.m. PST) as the time the release build goes up.

There are a couple reasons for this. First, we had originally planned to release two patches this week, but instead, we are rolling fixes from the second patch into this one because we got more done than anticipated. However, that means that there's also more to be tested, and we want to make sure Dead State is running smooth as butter before we give it all of you. Second, the holidays are coming up, and we do not plan to release another patch until January, meaning that it's that much more important that the patch we give you now resolves all the most common / problematic issues and runs well without any new bugs being introduced.

We don't want to rush anything and cause you, the players, to have a worse experience because of it. We really appreciate your understanding and patience as we give the build one final round of testing and put some spit and polish on it before delivering into your waiting hands. Okay, those metaphors didn't mix as well as I thought they would... forget the spit part, eh? ;)

On the bright side, tomorrow's build will address many things, such as:
- including a new autosave feature
- providing the ability to load your own photo at character creation
- providing far more info about weapons and armor on the inventory screen
- addressing issue with status effects not wearing off over time
- resolving a case of save corruption
- improving stability

We'll give you the full list in tomorrow's changelog :)

Again, sorry for the delay and we hope you'll be understanding of our thought process for taking an extra day on perfecting the patch. Thanks everyone!

This game is really addictive, if you are into post-apocalyptic hoarding sims. Your goal is to manage a shelter with increasing population, manage the resources, deal with personal problems of the people and on the side figure out what actually happened. While there are many bugfixes still necessary during the entire game I had a feeling that this is a game made with dedication and love. Also they promised more content for it and I'm already 22 hours in and haven't even explored half of the map. If you can look past some glitches and the graphics this game is actually better than Dragon Age: Inquisition.

Man, whoever wrote/designed this game is a genius.

Finally, a game with a huge focus on the human drama side of things as apposed to just 'shoot, build up your base, loot'.

The last time I had seen characters with such believable personalities was with the Telltale games.

Despite some bugs, I can't refuse to recommend this. The game quality is there. The believability is there. The personalization with your group is there. The immersion is there. The fact I gave a crap about what happened to certain people is there. The fact that Doug's character 100% matched this one abbrasive jerk I know IRL is there.

I love this.

I've been playing the game for a while, I've liked many things like the tasks, the leadership it has to be taken, the hard REALLY hard choices you have to make and so on.

The game has a H U G E potential for improvement, combatwise and characters reaction (dialogs, motions, etc..).
It does have weird glitchs like bodies not being able to be looted, with your to-do list, with characters asking over and over for you to do the same thing, etc...

I bought the game despite the high price for the current state of the product and others whorthier titles with the hopes of constantly updates of those bugs.
So yeah, so far I don't regret buying the game, just hope the Bears really deliver.

-I won't lie the game have issue at the moment,Nothing game breaking but still annoying.If you hate game with bug wait for patch to fix them.

Dead state is INDIE game where YOU get to lead a group of survivor in the zombie apocalypse/survival RPG(the words zombie will never be mention in this game.)Get food, gun and other useful item while you walk trouth the ruin of post-apocalype Texas with your band of survivor Hoping to see the light who make you safe once again....
....Or the the flash from a gun right in your face.

Dead State is RPG tbs(turn base system) with is more closed to the original fallout 1 or 2, Than a tactical turn base combat like x-com or even xenonaut(Meaning that you can't crouch or take cover behind object) but still offer trustful combat situation with is allies who react diferent from one to a another toc ombat or even.

Here a few negative and positve point about the game,
no voice over soo if you hate read text stay away there a lot of text(like 10 000 line)
Outdated grapic but good for a indie team
like mentionning no cover or crouch option
scripted story line...

...Nope a bad thing game is really good And have multiple ending.

Day 9. Didn't sleep a wink, Elaine was on the stairwell sobbing again setting everyone on edge. Doug's been needling me to take her on a scavenge and leave her gutshot out by the old church. He figures it will draw them out as we slip in the back, given it was an emergency shelter before it was overrun. A lot of provisions in there Doug says, and with Elaine gone, one less mouth to feed means one more meal for me. But I doubt Davis would buy it, that wily cripple likes to remind us of how he took us in. And now the bleeding heart's handing over the last of our antibiotics to some Mexican kid with the bite. I swear to the God that abandoned us, I'd walk down the halls putting a bullet in each of them as they slept if it weren't for the fact that the fence has a hole you could fit a bus through and the noise would bring them in from three counties. Now isn't the time for division. No one survives out here on their own; looters, the dead, or Coyotes, one of them will find you. Make enough noise like the Sheriff did, and maybe it'll be all three.
So I hunker down, listen to Elaine bleat and I earn my keep... bushwhacking and scavenging, two or three times more than most. And for what? Another week of waiting to die chewing half rations of Mr Munchie bars and mouldy fruit.
I guess it ain't all bad. The new guy that showed up just gave me some chilli sauce and some rechargeable batteries. With all that's wrong in this messed up world, I have to admit, my mood's better already.

I am not normally the type to write reviews, but I feel that Dead State is worth a break from the ordinary.

I have been playing since early access (First Seven Days release) and gone back for multiple playthroughs with each patch release right up until full release.

End result, over 300 hours played on this game and I dont feel I have wasted any of them.

YES, there are bugs, some of them are immersion breaking, some are annoying, but nothing OVERLY game breaking. The Devs are incredibly quick to respond to any new bugs found and are continually consulting the player base to find and eliminate bugs as they happen. To me, this is incredibly satisfying as I know my opinion as a consumer is valued.

As to the game itself?
If you are looking for a pulse-pounding thrill ride as you slaughter increasingly tough and varied monsters in graphic ways with an assortment of zany and idiosincratic weapons....
Look somewhere else.

Dead State is a htoughtful game that encourages you to plan ahead, from catering to the needs and wants of your fellow survivors to deciding when, where and how you and your team will fight.
Sometimes it is better to sneak through an area, get what you can and get out quietly.

I found I was investing into the fellow survivors, thinking outside the game to better understand thier motives and how best to make them work. A sure sign of good writing (Although you may not believe it simply from appearances)

Finally, if like me, you have played more than your fair share of RPG's (especially from the 90's and 00's) the isometric viewpoint, the turn based combat and even the JRPGesque base and NPC collection will tickle all the nostalgia bones and keep you coming back for more.


A great game that may still seem a little rough around the edges, but a must have for any RPG and/or Zombie Survival fan

A combination of old-school (some would say antiquated) turn-based RPG mechanics and survivalist simulation. All over the map in terms of balance and characterization, and the UI is shameful across the board. Over the long haul, however, Dead State's charms begin to manifest.

It will take awhile before the game starts to get going. A safe bet for the first-time player is that you'll be about 10-12 hours in before the first character conflicts kick in and you start exploring places more spectacular and atmospheric than deserted small-town main streets and suburbs. Story content is gated by in-game days and it takes about a week (each day an hour or more of gameplay, depending) before things start to really happen. If you can't devote that kind of time or don't have the patience (and not everyone does!) then it's a take-or-leave game. It squeezes surprisingly little from its premise otherwise (there is SO MUCH you could get from a hardcore RPG set in a zombie apocalypse), and clearly marks itself as an earnestly made first game from a new developer. I would say that if you're into 90's Interplay classics, have time on your hands and really, really love zombie fiction, it's worth the $30. Otherwise? Wait for a few patches or get it on sale. But it's worth the look if you're into turn-based RPGs.

Me and my friends really liked the game, but I would like to see in future updates some changes:
- able to shoot a double-barreled weapon double shot (doublet);
- different types of firing a weapon: offhand, aiming, shot in the head (only a single shot);
- new upgraded weapons, armors and shelters;
- more powerful opponents in the later stages (new types of zombies and bandits);
- assistance to friendly groups in the protection;
- "to teach" opponents to chase the player after entering the building.

In the distant future I would like to see a new interesting story and lots of layered long quests (with the necessity of moral choice).

I love this game, and yes i say please do not release it right now so much more can be added to make it compete with the big games of its kind to be released very soon in the next years..... I give it 4 and 1/2 stars out of 5.

Deleted my old review and decide to make a new, more sincere.

I'm in a love/hate realtionship with this game.

Had three save files corrupted. Had many game stopping bugs. Had to deal with wall crossing zombies, hoverin allies and buggy interface overall. And most recently, had just dowloaded the new update and had three game crashes in two hours.

But I just can't stop playing it. Saying "it has potential" it's not quite accurate. It kinda lives to it's potential - but falls to it's deficiences.

Hope for constant updates and increases in content. I like what I see, I just don't like to star over so many times.

Anyone who read my previous review of this will notice that I have changed my opinion. This is simply because the last post full release patch has fixed many issues and the developers continue to improve this product (the next big patch is due mid-late January). In my opinion it should have stayed Early Access until this latest patch.

This is a deep game that rewards patience in the early stages. You start out with just a handful of allies and very few options but as you venture further from your base, discover more locations, and find more survivors (who come with their own individual traits and problems) then things begin to get interesting. You can develop your base far more quickly and new options for addittional facilities start to appear as new survivors bring their unique skills to the table. Plot events progress in a similar manner with most being specifically linked to certain characters and your enjoyment of Dead State will snowball as you gain momentum.

Dead State is not an easy game to quantify in terms of genre; being a combination of man-management and resource allocation, Sims-like character appeasement, building development, open world exploration, and story-driven role play elements. But the CORE of the game is none of these things but rather an XCOM-like, turn based, tactical combat. And this last, despite being highly enjoyable when taken in context with everything else, still has a few rough edges. Regardless of its flaws (which are becoming increasingly less significant as the developers continue to listen to the community and improve the game) Dead State has finally flowered into something unique and satisfying IF you can push through its slow start. With the promise of further improvement in both game mechanics and extra content it has been turned from something best waited on to something you shouldn't really be without.

Previous score 67%, current score 82%, expected to finish in the high 90's.

I don't play many games apart from my main favourite which is RPGish, so I think it's time to put in my twopennorth. I started to play Dead State about a week ago, and I found it pretty tough, and also frustrating in several ways. Today was patch day, and it plays so much better. Well it does for me. Now it will run in widescreen on my laptop, so that's nice. And there's an autosave, so that's nice. I am currently playing with as much survival emphasis in my character build as is sensible, I include the mom and daughter in the away team, and one other. Apparently I will be able to have 4 companions now...yes, that's also nice. On our shopping trip today we got a load of meds and fuel, and plenty of food (even a few apples), so we had the next day (gametime ofc) off. I am still laughing at the tooltip for Elaine which says "Undamaged". Ha! I am looking forward to getting a car of some sort, because that will be also nice. So, here I am, now walking softly but carrying a big stick, and not really getting mad at the game anymore. I like it and have now recommended it. it isn't perfect, but it is cheap, and I think it represents very good value. Happy holidays to you all from England.
