About the Game

Suit up as an operative of the Ark Corporation, sent to the farthest reaches of the universe in search of habitable planets to terraform. However, after the long space journey you awaken from cryosleep to find that your ship has gone way off course and is disabled near a strange new world. With no choice but to descend to the surface and figure out how to survive long enough to complete your mission, you step into the escape pod.

Along the way you’ll gather resources to craft armor, weapons, facilities, and vehicles to help you explore the world and conquer its aggressive inhabitants. Your base of operations will evolve from a few basic facilities exposed to the elements into a hardened fortress full of advanced technologies that let you accomplish amazing improvements to your equipment and alter the environment itself.

Be careful, though; almost everything down there wants to kill you, including fierce laser space sharks, artillery-toting polar bears, wickedly quick jetpack penguins, and even crazier horrors. Out on the Edge of Space, you must adapt or you die. Good luck, ArkCo Operative!

Key Features

  • Open World Exploration– Dynamically-generated 2D sandbox set in the deepest recesses of space, explore randomly generated caverns, wormhole anomalies and dive deeper into the planet to discover valuable resources and other rare phenomenon.

  • Research System – A new research system allows players more freedom to discover new areas of technology in exploration, combat, base building, and much more.
  • Command Center Management – Establish your central base of operation by creating the ultimate Command Center customized with defensive turrets, hangers and repair drones. Make improvements to protect yourself from the constant environmental changes like radiation storms and other anomalies.
  • PIOS (Power Input Output Systems) – A simple drag and drop tool, letting you design electrical systems as basic as powering a light or as complex as creating your own logic gates.

So here we are....finally at 1.0 and we still feel like we are in a beta.
The game is laggy, choppy, the sprites clip and glitch around, the physics are wonkey for gravity (shoot enemy they fly straight upwards?), it's such a mess at the start. Their idea of a tutorial involves talking to a flying shark and gathering's very dull.

I'm sad that waiting for nearly a year on this resulted in this mediocrity. Stick with terraria, this feels like a generic knock off terraria in space.

Bought this game since it first appeared in Early Acess. Played it on and off until they announced an official release date, so let's get to the details and where this game fell apart.

First, for a space exploration/craft game it's mostly about just digging down....down down and only down. The crafting menu is categorized but it's still very messy and not pretty. Explanations on how switches work with power are also few and far between so you're going to have to do your own troubleshooting for a while. There is a variety of weapons, i won't deny that, but in terms of USEFUL weapons there are only a few types which work well. So you can basically ignore all the melee and energy fueled weapons, stick to the projectile and plasma weapons. But the worst part of this game is the enemies...their hitboxes are really funky, and to make matters worse the hurt boxes on your weapons are terrible as well. So mixing hard to hit enemies with weapons that are hard to aim...great. And the movement of the enemies is particularly annoying and random. Otherwise I applaud its effort to be different but this game feels poorly done to me.

For version 1.0.3

Though the developers have released this from Early Access, it really should not have been. First off, the bugs:
  • missing image assets
  • broken dialog trees/subquests
  • spelling mistakes
  • crafting window which gets laggier and laggier each time it's opened.
  • constant shaking of the screen when left unattended for long enough (in my case, once to answer a phone call and another to deal with a someone at the door).

Beyond the bugs, the content of the game itself is surprisingly sparse. You just constantly descend without much incentive to explore other than to discover upgrade stations. You can also find NPCs and get their subquests, but even if those subquests aren't broken there's no real payoff for completing them.

At its current level, the amount of active development and polish needed before this would be worthwhile is probably measured in months, not days or weeks. I'd check back in six months to a year to see if things have gotten better or if the move out of Early Access is an indication that the dev team is abandoning the game and so might as well call it done.

Fantastic. It's Terraria in Space, simply put. if you like the 'mining / open world' nature of terraria or minecraft, and like Sci Fi, then you will absolutely love this.

Buying a few more copies so my kids can play.

Awesome game! Has really changed since when it was first released. I decided to sit down and play it again (I hadn't played it in months) and I could really see the changes. Way to go Handyman! Glad I purchased the special edition a long time ago, totally worth it.
