What the developers have to say:

Kenshi is currently in alpha state. The game is still in development and is missing many features. There are currently unfinished gameplay features, and the stability will fluctuate as new features are added. Expect crashes and bugs at this stage.
But remember the game receives regular ongoing updates and improvements, by purchasing at this early stage you get the game for a reduced price and can watch it gradually grow and improve, provide your feedback to the developer, and above all you are helping to fund the development for a small independent developer. Remember: the price will gradually increase over time as development progresses, so the sooner you purchase, the lower the price.”

0.90.X Hotfixes

There will be a whole bunch of patches over the next week while we stabilise the game, we'll add them all here in one place. Check back frequently for updates detail below...

Current Game Status & FAQs

Currently, 0.90.0 is very heavy on performance and RAM, these will be optimised further over time.
  • For performance issues: Reduce the terrain detail and view distance and turn off shadows.
  • For low memory: Reduce the texture quality and view distance.
You can't load old savegames but you CAN import your squad without buildings and research.

The update is only available on the "Experimental" branch at the moment, because I'm unsure of it's stability. (you have to right-click on Kenshi in your Steam games list -> properties -> betas tab -> then choose "experimental". Leave the 'beta code' field blank.). The old version will still be available through Steam in the other branches.

  • Imposed limitations and a fix for importing old-world savegames
  • Enabled the missing playable races
  • Stopped new games starting in deadly towns.
  • Fixed getting stuck when trying to add building materials
  • Fixed some of the crashes at startup that some people were getting
  • Pets no longer need to eat. This is a temporary measure, later I will figure out a feeding method or something.
  • Added missing Dialog.mod file. Tons of content was missing there, and caused some crashes
  • Fixed crash when purchasing buildings
  • There are some big long slowdowns and freezes in the game at random times when zones are unloaded. Optimised these in a gung-ho kinda way to get it out quick. Will go over it more carefully later.
  • Robot repair kits now available at construction traders. Not in the holy empire though.
  • Hive faction shop was missing tons of item types
  • More fixes for starting in bad towns
  • Fixed dialogue crash after stealing stuff.
  • Fixed getting cooked food item from campfire.
  • Fixed research consuming the required amount of items.
  • Food now properly consumed from backpack
  • Finished fixing the long freezes and slowdowns properly. My previous solution probably was causing bugs, which will now be fixed. Performance should be smoother.
  • Fixed the black stripes on the terrain some people were getting.
  • Random nest items no longer spawn under the floor in buildings
  • Meat is worth more nutrition and cooks way faster
  • Can't reproduce the Paladins in Wildlife faction bug, so I think it was because of the missing mod file before. Will enforce save imports for this version and see if it still happens.
  • Fixed animals unable to attack
  • Fixed multiple characters showing all at once in the character editor
  • Books are now a little more common, and can be found in the holy empire towns
  • Fixed random buildings getting navmesh-blocked so nobody could get inside
  • Added a mercenary squad to the Waystation bar to help the freedom seekers start
  • Hunger now drains slower when you are KO
  • Fixed the repeat bounty exploit
  • Fixed beak things & bulls unable to attack
  • Eating stacked food no longer depletes the whole stack
  • Fixed imported squads having an empty build list
  • Bread is crafted much faster
  • Fixed crash with research bench lvl IV
  • Fixed player characters not updating properly offscreen
  • Bunch 'o crash fixes, particularly with the research window
  • Added missing cooking stove
  • Night time is now less dark
  • Fixed camera refusing to descend
  • Fixed some of the major navmesh issues in border zone
  • Bunch 'o crash fixes
  • Another improvement to load-time framerate slowdowns
  • Hivers no longer get injury penalties at full health
  • Fixed hunger penalty for some skeleton NPCs
  • Fixed some issues with mines
  • Fixed fuel storage only storing 1 item
  • Fixed crash when dismantling buildings
  • Added crop yield values when placing farms (this should avoid placing farms that won't give crops)
  • Fixed animals inventory weight.
  • Fixed in crafting buildings: saving/loading of inputs and items, stacking outputs (when possible), crafting times
  • Fixed the crazy long food crafting times
  • weapons and backpacks are left behind if a character is eaten
  • Fixed underground interiors selection
  • Removed already learnt research from the research list.
  • Fixed bug with adding building materials to certain buildings
  • Performance optimisations
  • Crash fixes
  • Fixed characters flickering on some systems
  • Crash fixes
  • Restored the muscle/skinny effect on characters
  • Fixed the inability to build campfires, and they are now free to build
  • Fixed the skeletons texture
  • Fixed the bug with wrong damage amounts showing when hit by animals
  • Fixed a farm AI bug
  • Fixed the hovering turrets bug
  • Stopped people freaking out so quickly when you enter their houses
  • Fixed sometimes when you buy a house a resident remains and calls the guards
  • Fixed a navigation bug with moving inside towns with walls
  • Fixed assassination dummy upgrading to wrong thing, and the missing iron refinery III
  • Fixed the missing audio
  • Player town location is now adjusted when you destroy buildings
  • Town walls are now passable until they are 80% complete, also the material now reflects this better
  • Fixed engineers not doing anything if they didn't have the materials already
  • Improved back-threaded resource loading, for slightly smoother load times
  • Fixed a bug that was causing progressive framerate decay in the last 2 updates
  • Fixed batteries thinking they were wind generators
    I've put v0.90.10 as a separate branch on steam, as that was quite a stable version and there are some big bugs going on in the latest versions
  • Crash fixes
  • Game now runs on 2-core CPUs
  • Hivers now react to crime
  • NPCs react properly to failed knockouts
  • Added hemp-based fabric loom
  • You can now eat while using turrets
  • Fixed character editor crash with ragdoll characters
  • Other small tweaks and fixes
  • Characters now defend their farms from river raptors and other pests
  • Fixed a bug with stealing chance calculation when stealing from containers
  • You can now eat while using turrets
  • Fixed the turrets missing neutral targets
  • Finished fixing up turrets. They're a bit more powerful at higher skill levels
  • Building doors have 3x more hitpoints
  • NPCs no longer lose their short-term memory when you load a game
  • Characters now prefer to eat higher level food items, so they won't eat up all the raw ingredients if they have a proper meal. They also won't eat ingredients until they reach 200 hunger instead of 250.
  • AI doesn't get confused when the output of a crafting bench changes, will now clear out all the old items and continue working
  • Improvements to item collection/delivery AI
  • Fixed the combat stumble-toughness threshold, stronger characters should get stunlocked less
  • Fixed up the building & wall placement, its a lot nicer now
  • Added a few small buildings, like ceiling fans and electric light posts
  • Shift-click on an animal corpse will create an auto-loot job for gathering meat & leather
  • Fixed right click movement in wall ramps
  • Fixed GUI threading issues
  • Fixed dropped item losing STOLEN tag
  • Can now move building previews again after placing them
  • Fixed stolen items behavior
  • Lots of smaller bugfixes
  • Building inventory is now imported when you import game
  • More stumble fixes
  • Fixed crash when starting with texture quality setting too low
  • Lots of small uninteresting fixes
  • Characters in home base now automatically get food from storage when they need to eat
  • Characters outside of home base share food with squadmates if it's in their backpack
  • Fixed combat missing attacks when on steep slopes
  • Fixed unable to build wall ramps
  • Fixed "auto-arrange" button sometimes losing items
  • Fixed the cheap research costs bug
  • Fixed un-blockable animals
  • Turret guards can now go and get food too

Beta Update 0.90 Released

NEW WORLD (0.90.0)
Due to the sheer size of the new map the first release will be restricted to a certain area only. This area will gradually expand with more updates, but the main focus now is going to be on stability and polish.

This first build will be full of bugs and instability, please send us crashdumps and bug reports so we can fix it up ASAP.

The update is only available on the "Experimental" branch at the moment, because I'm unsure of it's stability. (you have to right-click on Kenshi in your Steam games list -> properties -> betas tab -> then choose "experimental")

  • Entirely new world map. More detailed and polished, new factions, new content, things to explore. Its' like Kenshi 2. Crazy. I should have called it Kenshi 2 and charged for it again, but I didn't. Damn.
  • Entirely revamped research tech-tree, new technologies and balance. Research is faster, but has a cost in items or artifacts.
  • Totally new buildings. Multiple floors, and you can mount turrets on the rooftops.
  • New power system. Generators require fuel, wind power fluctuates with the wind strength, batteries compensate for fluctuations. Fuel can be made from crops.
  • Revamped farming system and different crops.
  • New animals, and new races with own strengths and weaknesses.
  • There's water now. Rivers to cross and oceans to drown in.
  • Camping- You can build easy camp beds and fires for survival when travelling
  • Things and places to find. Bandit bases, old labs, ruins.
  • Hunger is now a thing. You can die of starvation although it takes a long time. Your characters appearance reflects their state of physical strength or malnutrition.
  • Buildings are now made with multiple materials. Machinery requires iron and sometimes copper.
  • Thievery is improved, buildings have things to steal, guards are more alert.
  • Leather crafting now requires you to hunt for animal skins
  • Nice new zoomable world map window. It's so nice.
  • Your stats are now affected by injuries and malnutrition.
  • Certain animals might now eat your crops, your dead bodies, and sometimes even your unconscious bodies.
  • NPCs use the stuff in their homes, guards train, people sit etc
  • Guards in buildings and shops now descreetly sort of follow you about, keeping an eye on you
  • Fixed getting busted for stealing from accidental clicks. You can look inside unlocked containers, and lock picking has to be chosen through the right-click menu.
  • Reduced labour/engineering speed penalty at level 1 from 0.25x to 0.5x. This will speed things up slightly at the lower levels when starting out
  • Stealth skill is easier to train in non-hostile environments.
  • Increased trade profitability by 50%, this combined with thievery should provide decent alternatives to looting as a profession in the early game stage.
  • Characters with a turret job will automatically use whichever turret has enemies in its line of fire.
  • New long-distance move command, so you can click on distant terrain and your characters will run there
  • Tons of bugfixes.
  • -New fancy shadow system, looks nicer and more importantly runs faster.
  • New terrain engine. Runs faster, looks nicer and shows more detail for distant mountains
  • Long-range pathfinding system. You can click on any visible distant mountain and your characters will find their way there, following roads.
  • A lot of fundamental engine optimisations have been done, this may temporarily cause new bugs, but hopefully speed things up
  • Bit of an overhaul to the animation system, runs faster and combat animation should be a little smoother and have more functionality
  • Overhauled with a new PBR & HDR global lighting system, should make a great improvement to the visual quality
    -(Credit for this goes to Linda MacGill and Igor Frolov of Bug Zen!)

  • Currently only runs in DirectX11 mode, DirectX9 mode will be fixed later
  • No more 32-bit support, the game's memory requirements are too high
  • Not sure how it runs/looks on ATI and non-nVidia graphics cards.

Bought this game a couple years ago I think. It's been a lot of fun watching it grow. Lately was a really big update that introduced a lot of new features and the developement has sped up quite a bit. It's all very exciting and I think a good portion of people would benefit from trying this game out!

I've only played Kenshi 22 hours as of now and have found many bugs. it's especially buggy once you have over 20 people in your clan, lol.. I'm at 28 and half the time my people just sit there after i tell em to do something(lazy asses) and I have noticed in many ways how the screne shots above look nothing like in game.. for example the Map is a bit rough and hard to interpret but issues are to be expected in an Alfa. note though, even with the many bugs and various other gameplay issues this game is definitly worth the grab. as bad ♥♥♥ as the game and its buggs already are there is so much potential to be even more. i'd buy it again if i had to and I've already refered it to 3 of my friends one of wich bought it what whaaaat!. I'll review it again once i put some more time in and hopefully by then they will have fixed a good many of the bugs.

Bort this game 2 years ago and I enjoyed it more then. It had bugs but it was enjoyable to play. I was able to survice long enough to start and maintain a health community that could survive a bandit attack. So after not playing for 2 years, I thought that would be enough time for the game to be finished. However in all that time the new features added are so broken that the game is unplayable (if fun is the goal).

Lately gameplay is start new game, first town guard that sees me attacks me. Why? See a fight go to it to see if you can loot some dead body. What now it is stealing to loot a corpse it you didn't attack. In the early game looting corpses is the may occupation, however just standing near a fight will cause the guards to attack you. Why? my weapon is not drawn. This is all in the first town in the first 10 mins. Talk to someone town guard attacks you. Be a multi racial group town guards attack you. If you manage to get past the town guard and find a bandit, hopefully you don't starve to death first. Now bandit are rare thing to find. 2 years ago there was a bandit attack every 10 mins. Kill the bandit loot his corpse. Finally I have something to cover my naked chest. Go to town to sell loot. Town guard see me and kills me. I guess because I was wearing the bandits clothing I was a bandit. Makes no sense in any RPG game out there.

There seem to be a complicated system for factions that is broken. As I said 2 years ago I thought that if they fixed the bugs and finished the crafting trees. All the game needed was some direction. There are no quest marker or any aid as where to go. There is not even a quest system. At this point that would be to much to ask for. I would be happy if I could play the game with getting attacked by the town guard and at least know why in the starting town am I attacked on sight.

This game had massive potential but I don't think the devs have the skills needed to manifest that potential. In 2 years the game is more broken than what it was.

That is why I give this a thumbs down.

April 2016: Amazing game but it is still early access with bugs and crashes. I played 40+ hours so far on the 9.1 beta and will be keeping an eye out for updates. I love the slow levelling and brutal world. I made an outpost too early and got butchered. Then I explored the jungle and dragged a horde of wildlife into a village and watched, while they went on an all-out rampage. I'm really looking forward to exploring more of the world!

I love this game!

I also love killing Holy Nation soldiers!

the reason for that,
"In Holy Nation territory, women are generally oppressed and used as society’s scapegoats. Other non-human races are treated with disdain and usually enslaved in the name of Okran."

Buy the game! and please kill the Holy Nation if you ever get to see them.

I just want to say I've backed dozens of EA games, but i always hold off until they release to play (usually to great disappointment). But this game, I just had to dive right in and I haven't regretted a moment. it is so deep and so fun. I just can't put it away.

Thank you all!

make ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ robot character with big booty.

finish character creation, get insta- knocked down by guards for no reason.

get locked up with no option to be freed or escape.

game over.

EDIT: found out i can pick locks.

try to escape, i glitch into the cage sideways.

guards see me, i get unstuck and try to run downstairs.

robots pathing is bad and i get stuck at stairs.

get bashed down again and put in cage again, this time downstairs.

unlock cage again, try sneaking away this time.

I chose the "Holy Sword" start for my character. I started out in a little village, but I wanted to leave and explore the land. A little way's away from the village I spotted a goat, and thought it was the perfect target to test out just how good this sword I spawned with was.

Turns out the stuff I thought was grass around it was actually ten other goats. Long story short, I got brutally pummeled by a mob of goats and laid there unconscious for the next two days.

Great game, I have owned this game since alpha, and now that the new Beta release has come out with great improvements i must say, while trying to maintain a healthy hunger level for the squad while braving the wilderness to strike it rich and build a settlement is truly a challenging and fun adventure.

The beta has much more of a sense of immersion into the games rustic and barren wasteland, you can feel your fear running from town to town as you don't know if you have enough to bribe the bandits walking past, get eaten by cannibals or even stumble across a hive of cancerous BEAKED THINGS.

Great game if you love the micro management , very difficult and time consuming game. However also very rewarding.

Started out as a man with the sword of the gods;
5 min in: gets beaten up by starving thugs with iron sticks (there were 6 of them!!!!);

10 min: limped back to city and payed outrageous bed rental for healing purposes(ONLY);

12 min: goes to bar and made a friend by paying them(thats how you get friends in life if you have no choice);

15 min: finished customizing friend;

20 min: ninjas fight the town guards;

22 min: rob ninjas for thier clothes and weapons;

23 min: sold whatever not needed;

24 min: ventures out for hours and builds a city and made a mercenary group named Band of the Hawk;

27 min: get attacked by giraffe thingy??? barely survives....again;

Hours upon hours in : Strong thriving, never seen much wildlife;

*updates to latest update*

started as a group of 5 robot nobodies;

5 min: gets torn apart by giant giraffe bird things;

restarted with another group: torn up by Giraffe birds known as beak things (lone survivor watched in horror as his comrades were left dying near the beak things sleeping on top of them;

third group: survived and spent hours building a house with crossbows on top;

hours: no more beak things HUNT THEM ALLL (just not on foot they are deadly);

10/10 would get devoured (BROKEN!!!) by beak things in a harsh land again
In all serioness this is a game that will stomp you down if you dont play it smart, but it is redicously fun and i can recommend it and the dev are working hard, trust me i follow their blogs. AND REMEMBER its an ALPHA its not perfect it can stress you out with the ocassional bugs and graphics card death threats (never really happens at all its just me i swear) but its great in my opinion, Keep up the good work Lo-Fi, keep it up.

One of the best post - apocalyptic game You will ever play... Huge world map, that will be available gradually, multiple biomeses - the world looks extremely immersive. Recently they updated whole engine and graphics looks very nice, the game is nearly finished - all that is left is bug polishing and some features implementation.

Amount of content is insane - base building, farming etc, when the full game world will be done - nearly 870 km2 with diffrent blending biomeses and factions, locations and lore - all of this is a steal for this price. Would not be suprised when after EA the price will be higher - totally worth waiting for!!!

My Journey so far in the experimental version
>started out as a wanderer on brisk hill, tried to lure the the bandits nearby but failed miserably so I looted the police station
>Made a Living from iron ore Mining,since looting bandits seems very unefficient and I rarely encounter them
>bought a house in the city to put storage on and a research table
>built an outpost near the river but it was soon overuned by river raptors so I abandoned it for a while
>Journeyed to Mongrel from Brisk hill, encountered several fogmen and was captured and escaped
>after escaping I was chased to mongrel Until the ninja guards killed the persuers, looted an prince hive's head and sold it
>encountered Infinity wingwang ang crumblejon, using the magic of Reloading and Reset Squad position, I teleported to brisk hill to avoid encountering the fogmen again

Overall this game provides a large amount of open world content, you can play it like a RPG or a RTS,.starting out is not easy since you are far more weaker than a Dog in the wild, there are glitches and crashes to encounter and the FPS is currently unstable with the current build, but as expected from an early access game it is still under development and new fixes and content are being added into the game.

This is the game I’ve been looking for!
The following is coming from a total noob, that hasn’t researched the game whatsoever. This is 5 hours of gameplay.

Day 1. I create a female wanderer, and I run around town, in and out of buildings looking for something to do. (20 minutes later I’m thinking, what’s the point in this?)

Day 2. It’s time to leave this town, and venture out across the wasteland, this town sucks. I travel at night, with 900 credits (cats) and a loaf of dry bread, and bare feet. I decide to erect a small shack in the desert, and after doing so, I realise I’ve build a useless unfinished concrete structure, with steel reinforcing jutting out all over the place. I move on towards the next town, leaving the unfinished building to ruin.

Day 3. I arrive early morning to a group of people killing dogs, just outside the town’s entrance. I avoid the people, and try looting a dog’s corpse. I get nothing. Once again, I move from building to building, finding nothing other than a few people offering their services for 700 cats. I decide to hang onto my 900 for now. I find a dummy in one building and decide to hit it, soon realising this is the way to raise my attack points. I do this until I’m at level 5.

Day 4. I’m a hard ♥♥♥, now I’m level 5. It’s time to venture out into the wilderness again to kick a group of dude’s brains in! I run out into the desert and soon see a gang in the distance. They spot me and shout “get the prick”. I decide to run instead. They’re faster than me, and soon catch up. They kick my ♥♥♥ bad. Breaking my left leg, stabbing me in the stomach and putting me in a coma, they leave me for dead face down in the sand, in my underwear.

Day 5. Is spent in a coma

Day 6. I drag my broken leg, limping back to the town.

Day 7. I can’t do this alone, and decided to spend 700 cats on hiring a girl in the local bar, to join me. She heals me, but I’m still limping bad, so I find a bed nearby and pay 100 cats to bed down for a while and heal.

Day 8. An outside gang try entering the town, and the fighting kicks off! I’m recovering in bed, but the girl runs outside, looting as many corpses as possible. She puts some of the armour on, gets instantly attacked and hobbles to the bed next to me, to recover.

Day 8. The fighting is still going on outside, and it’s escalated into gang warfare. Both fully recovered, we ditch the gangs’ outfits (so we don’t get our heads kicked in again!) and begin looting and selling. We decide to hire another member to our gang, and turn him into a tank of a man, (with a hunchback). Together we loot every corpse and finally raise around 15k cats.

Day 9. After some serious dummy training and some more members, it’ll be time to head out of this town again, and back to the shack I began on day 1. We’ll try and get the building completed with a working generator, build a few mines and see what happens next.

To summarise:
Yeah it’s in development still, and it’s got bugs, but it’s totally playable and worth every penny.
The developers seem to working hard on updates and deserve support & money on this great little gem.

The game used to be fun and great to play ( normally only the settlement start anyway ) but now it perfoms horrible and as always it crashes constantly , I appreciate its still EA and that its recently been updated in a huge way but for the years ive had and loved this game its just been 1 step forward 2 steps back the majority of the way , new implementations are rare and very badly optimized . I hope this game acheives its potential because It truly is a great idea but as it stands currently save your money.

This game is great. Possibly the greatest £12.99 of all times.

10/10 would pay £12.99 again

TL:DR, 10/10 well worth playing.. and playing again... and again.

If Mount and Blade and Shogun: Total War had a baby, and that baby grew up to have a baby with Age of Empires 2... it would be close to this. Kenshi is gripping, it feels slow at the start but it's an amazing game once you crack the egg. Updates are coming thick and fast (at the time of writing) and it is a promising framework.

This is a rare and beautiful game. It's very playable, is different and entertaining. The developer is not going fast, but there is development. I have payed lots more for games that delivered a lot less.
watch some gameplay on youtube and start playing.
yes there are bugs. did i mention it's only 15 euro?
yes there are glitches. did i mention it's only 15 euro?
graphics are decent, sound is decent. the world is great. did i mention its actually not expensive?

if you are into this kind of games (watch youtube. its free) then this is a good investment. in time and money.

Kenshi Is a fantastic idea but is one of those gruesomely Beta/Alpha games that we all know steam to be a hub for.

There is still alot of work to be done on stability (The experimental version is very prone to crashing) and aspects of the game are still in progress of being developed. So if you have a short temperament you may wish to wait till it's finished.

That being said it's very difficult drawing yourself away for it. Creating your charaters from hair to feet then training them up in whatever respected fields you wish them to delve into from farming to swordplay to thievery . Beautifully thought out landscapes and structures to explore and the abusive bandits that wander there. Once you make enough of a living from selling your scraps to traders in towns, you can even build your own settlement from scrach and make a town of your own.

Hopefully if and when the game is finished being fiddled with, this can be an amazing game giving players the full freedom every RPG deserves.

This game will not only beat you with a stick but will make you beat yourself with that stick. It has a steep learning curve but that is probley its best feature. No making you the chosen one or some world saving hero. If you can survive the stick beating then maybe just maybe you can be the one beating others with that stick.

Unless you fight the Samurai.....One doesn't just fight the Samurai and win.

Either way 10/10 for a good beating.

Excellent game. Even in it's unpolished form, this game has something special that 99% of games lack; a developer who truly cares about their game and the people who play it.

Kenshi is very different from any other game I have ever played. I typically think that "early access" games are an interesting concept in theory, but close to complete crap in reality. Most just suck; great ideas, but no follow though. Not this one. Constant updates, very clear roadmaps and great mechanics set the bar very, very high.

The game focuses heavily on a sandbox feel to it; you are thrown into the world with no advice or clue to whats going on, and have to scrape and fight your way to sucess. It reminds me of a little bit of Xcom's tension level combined with an almost Warhammer RTS feel, as well as survival elements thrown in the mix. It's hard to explain...Watch a Youtube on it! It is pretty difficult to describe.

Built new city in the 0.90.x beta. Got attacked by bandits. A lot. Slavers found my recovering squad members. Forced to watch as the characters I affectionately named after family members were taken away in chains. Goodbye, Ryan. Enjoy your time in the mines

Made new game as a wanderer. Turned him into a Master Thief. Robbed every store in town. Stole Arms and Armor off guards and racist Paladins. Hoarded supplies and money in a Thieves Den (S****y little shack I bought for *almost* as much as a loaf of bread). Hired Mercs with thieving profits. Built new town with stolen supplies. Recruited army and Hired more Mercs.

Battled first slaver patrol I found. Stole all their s**t and dragged their bodies into the river to drown.

11/10 would thieve and murder again.

Kenshi is a well thought out RPG and RTS that is still in development but I think with my playtime a review is granted and anyone looking for a good game that still has a lot more to come to it this would be one to look into. I bought this game early on in its development because i saw what they were putting together and its exactly what I look for in a game. The developer who started this wanted to make the game out of wanting to put together a game he wanted to play himself but couldn't find out there. This game when finished will be a high point in early access even with seriously long development it has shown what the potential of early release games should be and it will be a benchmark hopefully for other developers out there to stick with it and truly finish ones vision. Without early access I doubt this game would be where its at now as the development team grew as people purchased the game early which helped this games progress tremendously. Its at beta now with a few bugs but well worth it to see the progress being made to bring this epic scale game together. I enjoy playing it and spend hours on it when I do which shows signs of being an interesting game and its not even finished yet an people play it like it is. Out of the many games I have this one definitely stands out in the crowd and hopefully for you it will too.

I've been following this game since sometime around 2011 and I can not express how impressed I am with Lo-Fi Games. This game is excellent and truly a PC game if there ever was one, an indie gem and an excellent representation of what early access can be when it's done right. This game deserves medals.

(For those of you who purchased this game and cant find the new map dont forget to go enable experimental version in the betas tab of your games proporties.)

I'm writing this for the beta version 0.91.4

Now that a small part of the new world map is out I can say that this game is starting to be very fleshed out and there is more land and features to be added (diplomacy being a big one) that will make this even greater game.

In the beginning you are weak, unskilled and most often alone. You will be caught stealing or end up pummeled by even lowliest of bandits or beasts. You can even starve to death or be kidnapped by slave traders if you get unlucky. In the worst case you may even end up being eaten alive.

If you or whats left of your squad survive you may eventually develop to become strong adventurers, skilled thieves or rich enought traders to hire mercenary squad to protect youself. Eventually you may be able to set up a base of your own where you can farm your own food (if animals don't eat it and you're able to kill them), build walls around it and craft your weapons and armor.

I recommend this for anyone interested in a survival game in a fantasy world with added RPG elements.

Incredible game. Open world sandbox in the vein of Mount and Blade but with RTS style squads, I can't recommend it enough.

GOD I want to love this game. I really want to. I've played over 40 hours in an absurdly short amount of time trying to love it and make it work. I know it just went Beta, but this is one of the least playabe Betas (or even Alphas) I have ever taken part in.

Pathfinding is absolutely terrible. The worst of any RTS I've ever played. If you build a wall, plan on randomly getting stuck on terrain and having to deconstruct part of the wall so your resources are *poof* gone. Oh it's not over there - good luck trying to get the two parts of the walls to attach again, because there is random wall collision detection that prevents you from attaching the two pieces of the wall, so there's a good chance you'll have to start over on a huge section of wall.

There have been modest improvements to pathfinding, not least of which is your squad tries its best to use the road rather than going offroad. This seems to be a hasty workaround, because going offroad seems to get you stuck for no apparent reason a lot of the time. Also plan on reversing your path and straightening out an approach on one squad member when going through gates into cities. The devs have the best intentions by attempting the following:

- Auto-hauling
- Priority queues
- Clicking on a point on the map and having the squad automatically go there

The problem with these is the execution. Auto-hauling works alright, but you have to have a specific box for the item. For example, autohauling stone has to go to a stone box. So you're taking up a ton of space with storage boxes. This leads into priority queues, which only show 5 of the tasks you have lined up even though you can have more. So if you have 10 resources you want to haul to 10 different boxes for efficiency's sake, you won't see the 5 tasks in the bottom of the queue so you have no idea if you actually have them queued or not. So you might have to deleted and restart your entire queue if you forget.

When going to a city by selecting a point on the map, there's a good chance your squad will randomly stop and just stand there because it doesn't know where to go, even though you selected a point on the map. This map feature is very new, so I'll give it a pass. It just needs some polish. It works a lot of the time.

Whoamygod crashes. Pre .90, crashes used to be once every 5-10 minutes (so lower your Autosave threshold unless you want to constantly lose progress). Patch .90.11 made the game literally unplayable (crash shortly after load every time, regardless of whether you start a new game or not). However, since then the crashes have gotten LOADS better. I just hope this continues.

The devs try hard (it seems) but it feels like they're playing a game of whack-a-mole. They squash a bug, another bug (or two, or three) appears in its place. I just hope to god it gets a lot more polish in the automation and pathfinding departments. Micromanaging to this degree and especially with this much frustration is not fun. If these key areas improve, this will turn a messy, bug-ridden game into a GREAT game.

All that ugliness aside... I will continue to support the game (because it's the only one of its kind really right?) and will likely change my review if there's a lot of polish. Right now it's not lookin good though.

Game is very original and addicting. The devs are fantastic and have been routinely updating and hotfixing the game to increase its stability on a very regular basis. If you're into sandbox games with a focus on survival, crafting, squad-based combat, and town/city building, I definitely suggest checking this out.
