About This Game

What happens when DLC practices go too far? An indie developer makes a game that mocks the industry and its foibles, that's what! Defeat the bad guy, save the world and get the girl! But first you'll need to find coins to buy DLC to enable animation, sound and even pausing.

Thankfully this is just satire and all the DLC is purchased with in-game coins. But consider it a cautionary tale for the future...

Key Features:

  • Two full length campaigns: the original award-winning "DLC Quest", and the brand new "Live Freemium or Die"
  • Platforming action! Coins to collect, a princess to save, a bad guy (or two) to defeat. You like that stuff, right?
  • Over 30 different DLC packs, each providing quiet introspection on the state of the gaming industry
  • Over 20 achievements to earn and make you feel reasonably satisfied with yourself
  • Online leaderboards

A short game with a lot of comedy around DLC,although it's a bit short for a story telling type game, it was short and nice experience for me.

A bizarre and quirky little game that makes fun of the dlc fiasco that seems to plague modern gaming. It is a fun 2D platformer with some some highly ironic jokes that might not appeal to everyone, and the actual gameplay is quite repetitive and gets boring quickly. But for the small price tag, and an hour and a half or so of enjoyment, I would still recommend this game.

DLC Quest is quite the curio. The fact that a game with bare-bone assets, juvenile gaming references, and minimal platform action, manages to NOT leave a bad taste in your mouth, speaks volumes about the developers. It is simple, short and will give you a couple of chuckles. Even the too on-the-nose satirical dialogue offers some bright moments:

"You would sell the tool of your own destruction? Run everything into the ground?"
"If there is profit to be had, I'll monetize it!"

Try it out.

This game isn't really about if "Everything was DLC" but is just a quick little set of jokes about the Gaming industry in general.

Although, the Horse Armor thing is here.

DLC Quest is a tongue in cheek parody of modern game publishing that's mocking the greedy DLC practices through the lens of a light super Mario-like platformer. Money is the central motif here, and the many ways publishers are trying to eke out more money is displayed in this game that is, by the way, asking for money. It is a never-ending circle of greed and money, where money can buy everything money but money can't buy you money that is money from your heart, so money leads to more money, with money and money, money money money, money money money money money, money, money money, and money. Money? .... Money!!!

A good and exciting game nonetheless, although I feel that 2 levels for the price of 2.99 is too little, more levels should be added in my opinion.

One of my favorite little games to play around on when I'm bored.

Kind of a Mario feel and lots of fun when you have nothing better to do. Easy achievments can be made by playing and if you put a little extra effort in it then you can get them all pretty easily,

I felt like I could have enjoyed more time playing once I finished but theres so many other games to play and it can be enjoyed more than once so it wasn't the worst thing.

Are you tired of buying tons of DLC to get the full experienceoit of your AAA games?

Though this game can't change EA's marketing strategies, it can provide hours of humorous, satirical fun, and a few achievements for your inner achievement hunter.

Gameplay:
Overall pretty fun, as the platforming aspects range pretty easy (not too easy as to not be fun though), to hard enough that it might take me a few tries, but not hard enough to rage quit.

Controls:
The default keyboard controls are fine, as it uses a two handed system as in, you use Z and X with your left hand and the arrow keys with your right. You can always change this through the settings menu though. My Xbox 360 controller also worked well, and I would recommend using it over the keyboard, since you get the added comfort, and you don't lose any precision or actions since there's only two controls besides movement anyway.

Story:
This game doesn't really have much story, but at the same time, it's not really necessary, as the main pointof the game is to be satire against companies like EA, Activision, and pretty much every AAA publisher for their ridiculous amounts of DLC. The little story it does have is quite hilarious (as again the game is satire), and it's worth the $2.99 fir the humor.

Final Thoughts:
This game is a short satire game, making fun of a huge problem in the AAA game industry, and for it's small price tag, it's entirely worth the purchase, especially if it's on sale.

A solid game that makes fun of microtransactions in a charming way. It's a great social commentary on the current state of the gaming industry, it's cheap so the short length is justified by the low price. I highly recommend this if you want a short and fun game.

Fun little satirical platformer and cheap, dumb time waster, nothing more. With the glut of games on Steam these days - let alone the glut of content on the Internet - I'm really not sure who'd even need explicit time wasters anymore, but if you somehow do then this one will fit the bill. If you're not someone who plays a lot of games, some of the jokes will escape you, but then again the title of the game should have told you everything you needed to know about its writing.

Be advised though: the game has two achievements for speedrunning each 'campaign'. With 100% completion for each run and no timer pause for cutscenes. I'll give you a pass if you decide to modify the game's plain XML save files and 'earn' them another way.
