About This Game

What happens when DLC practices go too far? An indie developer makes a game that mocks the industry and its foibles, that's what! Defeat the bad guy, save the world and get the girl! But first you'll need to find coins to buy DLC to enable animation, sound and even pausing.

Thankfully this is just satire and all the DLC is purchased with in-game coins. But consider it a cautionary tale for the future...

Key Features:

  • Two full length campaigns: the original award-winning "DLC Quest", and the brand new "Live Freemium or Die"
  • Platforming action! Coins to collect, a princess to save, a bad guy (or two) to defeat. You like that stuff, right?
  • Over 30 different DLC packs, each providing quiet introspection on the state of the gaming industry
  • Over 20 achievements to earn and make you feel reasonably satisfied with yourself
  • Online leaderboards

>stroll into my local GameStop
>looking to pick up a copy of DLC Quest
>grab the game and take it to the charming maiden at the register
>"Pardon me, milady...but could you ring me up? A shame I don't have your number or I'd ring you up instead..."
>she giggles and takes the game, blushing as her fingers brush mine due to my fingerless gloves
>her eyes widen as she reads the game's title
>"Wow, I've never seen anyone buy this before! You must have special taste!"
>I smile and ready a witty response when suddenly a voice rings out from behind
>"Hahaha look at what this ♥♥♥♥♥♥ is buying! That's not Call of Duty! What a piece of ♥♥♥♥!"
>I quickly turn around, my cloak billowing behind me, to discern the source of the rude outburst
>generic dudebro caricature with a sports team cap and "the guy that beat you up that one time behind the school in early October" shirt is standing there guffawing
>"Excuse me sir...you may disparage my person if you wish, but it is untoward to swear in front of a lady."
>"♥♥♥♥ you ♥♥♥♥♥♥!"
>I smile quietly and tip my fedora low across my eyes, concealing them
>"As you wish..."
>I quickly swing my cane into his kneecap before he can react
>he bellows and charges forward
>I expertly sidestep him and the cashier screams as he crashes into the counter
>I draw my sword-cane and mutter a quiet oath as I drive it deep into his back
>"...requiescat in pace..."
>As I clean my blade the girl walks out from behind the counter, twirling her hair with her fingers
>"So...maybe you'd like to come over to my place to play that game sometime...?
>"No thanks, milady, it's single player only. Besides..."
>I sheath my sword
>"You're not my type."
>skate away on my Heelys

DLC Quest is a satire that makes fun of modern-day companies that rely on DLC's and "F2P" games that require you to buy everything from it to be able to actually play it. The humor is a nice addition. Story is somewhat short, but you can continue it on an in-game DLC chapter.

>I'd give it a 7/10
>Pros: Solid gameplay, retro graphics, humor, inexpensive(price matches content)
>Cons: Might stumble upon annoying parts, short, best to buy on sale, might not entertain as long as other games.

This is a such a funny game. In less than an hour I finished the main plot, but oh dear this made me smile all the time. It's a really nice satire to all those DLCs.

At the start you can't even go to the left, you don't have animations, no sound and you can't pause the game. But later you can do everything. From getting a hat to shooting everybody to death.

The humor in the game is just brilliant. I love it. There a signs everywhere that tell you what to do. So for example there is a dead end in a cave, so there is a sign: "Dead end." Just next to it: "No seriously, go back."

The people to talk to in the game, or even a horse, are also quite hilarious. One person sais: "I don't have anything relevant to say at this time. I'll play an important role soon, but you don't know that yet."

The cutscene at the beginning of the game is so bad it's really hilarious. The story of it. Haha. No words.

There is a lot more humor in this game. But you have to figure that out yourself.

Also, don't murder the sheep for no good reason.

This game has a distinct sense of humor (for better or for worse), but it's REALLY short and there's not much to the gameplay. And there is literally nothing beyond the hour-long story mode.
The game has a lot of charm. I really want to recommend this game. But being honest, there's just not enough reason for me to recommend it. Sorry!

"For those who want a break from long games, or want a quick game for trading cards and achievements."

This is a game for people who want to accomplish something in a short time.

The game contains lots of humor and parkour. You are sent back and forth to explore new land... and buy DLC. The whole point of this game, buy DLC and enjoy the game. The game itself was pretty simple and short. It only took me an hour and a half to beat both modes. Bosses are simple and DLC is cheap (as in price). Pretend of this as a Super Mario Bros game, except that there are less coins and every coin is a DLC pack. This is what the game is.

The game in my opinion is amazing, especially from how short it is. Somehow, the developers were able to cram such humor and detail into a small game. At the end, the player feels accomplished of what they had done. I have never seen a game with such a great and short storyline. This kind of emphaizes the saying, short and sweet.

I would highly recommend this game. It is a short, filled-to-the-brim game of detail that also, contains trading cards and achievements. (Yay, more value!) For those who just want a quick break from long and serious games, or just want a game to unlock some trading cards and achievements, then this is the game for you.

One of the most amazing indie platformers I've seen yet.
The mechanic of this game is awesome and funny at the same time.
If you want about 2 hours pure fun and are person who will always try to find everything this is your game.
As i said it's rather short, but it's certainly worth its money.
Sadely no replayability.

A hilarious platforming satire into the world of DLC and modern gaming, poking fun at everything from ME3 to Oblivion to COD. Well worth a play through, although don't expect a great game underneath the parody fascade - play it for teh lulz not for gameplay :)

An interesting concept, but loses momentum very early in the game and becomes rather repetitive. I'm not a fan of the art style either, I don't feel that it was executed very well. It feels rather unpolished, as if this should be a free flash game and not on the Steam Store. This might be worth trying out on sale, but merely to explore the concept.

Why is this game getting so many positive reviews? This would have made a better 4 minute YouTube video then a 20 minute fetch quest game. I get it, it's satire, it's humorus. It's just not fun.

A very good idea executed in a disappointingly mediocre way. The initial hook is simply brilliant: everything is a DLC. From moving left to animations to jump and so on. The problem is, there really is no "and so on", it's an extremely short game and you can feel the creators have run out of ideas very quickly into the game. It doesn't take an hour to complete everything in the game - if at this point we can even call it that. Now, it is possible that this is only a segue into the next episode (undoubtedly coming as a DLC), but while I really applaud the developers for putting in the effort to create a game and hope they will continue to work on games in the future, at the same time I can't recommend it because when it comes to DLC Quest, they didn't really put in all the effort needed to create a game.

Clarification: This game is meant as a joke. It should not be taken too seriously, you'll enjoy it better if you don't.
Clarification 2: This game does not move real money. If you find it trying to do so, you've downloaded a bogus rip-off.

This is really two games in one. There's not much to the gameplay. You make your way through the maps, purchasing DLC to let you continue further.

Standard platformer keyboard controls, once you buy them.

The graphics & sound are fairly good. Once you purchase enough upgrades for them, obviously.

As a commentary on the state of gaming, this is fairly good. I mean, no game has gone this far with paid DLC (as far as I know), but it does show the dangers of where we could all end up.

While the humor behind the satire is moderately funny, once you've played it once it doesn't really lend itself to being replayed, as far as i'm concerned. Also, in order to find it funny you need to have a fair bit of insight into the current arguments for/against in-game payments.

How far would I go for recommending this? You can probably skip playing this one.
