Hands down the best recording software i have ever used, absolutely amazing.

I've used everything from fraps, OBS, ShadowPlay, Bandicam, Dxtory and more.. And for some reason they never really recorded high quality video's without handing me a bunch of lag and not producing the best video possible.. (Not sure why, possibly it came down to my PC specs? but in all honesty my computer is near high-end, so it bugged me.

Then i came accross Action!, and i never knew steam had recording software for sale, so i was intrigued about this.. I wen't on to read reviews and watched some video's about it, and nearly everyone was giving it positive vibes. Sooo.. i thought, let's give this one a try, and let's fork out some money and actually pay a little extra and hope for something good. So i sold some items and bought it.

I will say, this is the best money i have spent on anything related to recording and creating videos.. Honestly i am blown away at the quality it produces & allows me to record in, and it doesn't play heavy on my PC, i don't lose frames and my video's turn out just like i would be playing the game. I can actually record in 1080/60fps! It's just amazing.

Livestreaming is also now possible on here, it let's you stream to YouTube, Twitch, HitBox, etc.. Supports video, audio, facecam & BM recording, the file size of your video's are very small, Start recording from your phone and so much more.

It's also very user friendly, you can just about change anything to how you like it. And it's extremely easy to set up! Takes no time at all, click away and your done.

I really hope this also works for many others, as i know the pain it is finding a good recording software for your PC. Best of luck.

My computer specs if you are wondering.

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz

Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti

RAM: 16 GB

OS: Microsoft Windows 10 (build 14393), 64-bit

Doesn't always work, and not always perfectly. But 9 times out of 10 it will work fine with anything I'm recording (some times needing to convert the video so it behaves with the audio in my video editor). And a lot of my videos wouldn't be as high of a visual quality as they are now without it.

Bought the program, opened it couldn't invite my friends to any games cause steam said I was using action... couldn't refund it. Went and bought it on their website worked for a little while then stopped opening. Wasted $100 on a program that I can't use.

This is an update to my original review. As of today, I have upgraded all my hardware and have a pretty decent computer. I run most of my games as well as Action! on my SSD. I have 16GB of memory and a CPU that is i7-6700 @ 3.4GHz. Now I am on Windows 10.

A few observations to share after extensive experience with this software.

[1] Action! doesn't crash as often but may stop recording without you knowing it

Unlike the Win 7 experience, Action! seldom crash on Win 10. But what it now does occasionally is prematurely stop my recording. This means I could be recording my game play, keeping on talking, and after half an hour of recording only to realize that I have to do it all over again.

[2] Action! tends to crash my games.

I am recording 24 frames per second and I limit my game to 60 fps.

I use Action! to record games like World of Warcraft and Marvel Heroes. I have seen Action! crashing my games so much as that I have a black screen and unable to do anything but to restart my machine.

[3] HUD cannot be hidden for some games.

I notice for most games (like American Truck Simulator and Marvel Heroes), the HUD can be hidden. For other games (like World of Warcraft), with the same setting, the HUD cannot be hidden. This means my viewers can see the frame rate of the video as I record.

[4] Not fast in resolving customer's issues.

This could be a temporary problem. But it is one that I have reported a few weeks ago. By the time you read this, this could have been resolved. Right now, I can't record Google Chrome full screen. At times I create tuitorial video and record my Google Slide (presentation) while I talk through it. Action! starts recording for 5 seconds and then stop recording the video (as in freezing the image but the audio recording continues). I have reported in Steam and they are still looking into it.

So, base on my recent experience, Action! while has good feature is not a reliable tool to record videos. Still not a recommendation for now. I hope I will change my mind in the future.

*** Original Review on Windows 7 Platform ***

Initially I have written a negative review on this software. Then Mirillis support team contacted me so I took that review down wanting to see how things unfold. It is the same in the end so I am reinstating my review with some edits. As you can see, I have spent a lot of time using Action! and all these observations have been there since the beginning. Over time, my hardware has changed (including changing of graphic card), software has changed, but the headache from using Action! remains.

[1] Action! crashes often

I use Action! to record in-game videos and post them in YouTube. I have more than 150 videos recorded and most are beyond 30 minutes long. In short, I am a pretty heavy user when it comes to in-game video recording. Action! crashes almost every day. At times, several times a day. I have experienced this for as long as I have Action! Even changing hardware would not help.

What this means is that you may spend 30 mins recording an in-game scene. Just as you stop the recording, nothing happens. Toggle to desktop you would see it stops working and force closed by Windows. You would lose all 30 mins of footage. That happens to me often. Some footage may need another week's wait to have it recorded (like MMO raiding with weekly lock). So yes, I have put up with this for almost every day.

To get around this, in as much as possible, I try to keep my video short - like 5 to 10 minutes. At least when Action! crashes - which is like very often - I just need to re-record that segment and not the entire video. But I don't always have this luxury.

[2] Action! may not start recording the moment you want it to

This does not happen often. But there are instances whereby I lose a chunk of video footage at the beginning. Or video recording just doesn't start.

[3] Action! may crash even when your CPU etc. load is low

One potential reason of Action! crashing I gather from interacting with the support team is that my CPU etc. load is too high. That interfere with the recording software. Fair enough. But how do you explain Action! crashing even when I am recording a video over Google Slide (just a browser) with very low load to CPU, GPU etc.?

[4] Action! may not work for your recording device

I have a home studio. I have a digital USB mixer Zoom R24. AMD Gaming Evolved Raptr (free) is able to recognize it and record my voice as well as in-game video with no issue. But not with Action! Finally, I spent money to buy a Blue Yeti in order to work with Action!

[5] Action! may not save your setting if you shutdown your machine without exiting the application

For the longest time, I was puzzled why I need to adjust all the settings every time I open up Action! I have to re-adjust mic level, positioning of webcam, size of webcam window as well as key binding. Every single time I start my machine. I wrote into their forum, reported this issue but received no help. I interacted with their support team via email. In the end, no resolution.

Then I accidentally discovered that Action! only save my settings (at least for me) when I properly exit the application and not let Windows shutdown closes it (read: it is not a force shutdown). Also, I have also discovered that Action! crashes less when I exit the application after changing the setting and re-open it again before recording. If I change the setting on the fly, there is a high chance Action! will crash.

[6] Working with their support team doesn't help to resolve my issues

When Mirillis team contacted me via Steam and informed me that the proper support channel is through email. So I complied. Here is the event timeline.

End Jun, 2015 - I wrote to Mirillis team via email officially informed them of my issues.
Jul 4, 2015 - I supplied them with screenshots and all the info they have asked for.
Jul 18, 2015 - I sent them the dxdiag report as per their request.
Jul 25, 2015 - I sent them a 2nd dxdiag report as per their request.
Till Aug 16, 2015 - I receieve no response on how these reports would have help them in diagnosing my issues.

[7] In closing

While I would love Mirillis to continue making money so as to continue supporting this software, I just can't recommend this software based on all the issues I have faced for so long as well as all the time I have wasted just to re-record video.

personally i tried this product... i hate multple things about it... here are my list of things

1.) HIDDEN SUBSCRIPTION FEE, yes i said it, hidden subscription fee.
The subscription is basically something that removes "this was recorded with (inset recording program here)!" then expect you to pay $50 on top of it to expect you to be satisfied to have a recording device... Also, it requires Subscription for other things, like streaming and other small detailed items.
2.) requiring a seperate log in while having to be connected to steam to even use it...
To even has accessible to streaming or any other good features you have to be logged into the account connected to your key and signed into steam...
3.) The login for the 2nd time around is longer then usual...
4.) unusual lagging while non-recording.
It basically uses more resources to NOT record then it is recording... how stupid is that?
5.) I can get a Free recorder to do just as much if no better then the recorder here without a subscription fee and less time consumed on having to relog in on everything everytime...

I got a refund for this product once i found out all this stuff that i believed to be wrong with it, honestly... I would say don't spend $50 to have a video recorder and then have to pay $8 a month to get good features for a video recorder that should already be there or shouldn't be there after paying $50 to get the thing.

After 900 hours of recording and almost 200 videos uploaded on youtube i can now say that Action is far the best recording software i've ever had to buy. Encoding in MP4 and uses almost nothing of your CPU, you can easily record every game you want. Uploading your videos directly on your Youtube channel thru the software as never been so easy. For a 30 minutes Video at 60 FPS recording i only had a 6GB Video File or less, it all depends of what the game you are recording.
With the New Time Shift system you can record only the last action you made without recording the whole sequence by pressing a simple button that saves the last recorded seconds.

-User Friendly Interface
-Easy to use
-Doesn't use much memory , so your gameplay isn't lagging
-Easy Upload to your YouTube Channel
-Time Shift System is awesome for recording only your best moments/actions
-Streaming is free since a few patches, no more monthly subscribing
-Recording in MP4 so no more 100GB files any more
-720p or 1080p of 4k support
-30, 60 or even 120 FPS recording available
-Still updated when needed.

-Not a freeware but ok, it deserves to be a payware.
-Recording HUD doesn't Support some games in Windowed more

I Recommend "OBS" its free. It works flawlessly. and is capable of so much more, to even green screening.
I bought this thinking it would be better quality. for some reason it will not stream on anything from twitch to
youtube or hitbox. I went through everything with "Contact Support" went through evey step possible,
and still not anything to get the streaming working. its pretty buggy too, like it changes its setttings sometimes
without you even knowing. I still use it for recording and uploading, thats the only thing it seems to work for me.
I can't say eveyone will have this problem, But I can't recommend it to anyone either, when OBS is free, they are
always updating it too making it better everytime. with OBS, you can manually set up your recording screen to how
you want it. I think maybe this program is for people who need the setting automated for them, but still I recommend
OBS and taking the patience to learn.

I have been using Action! since it's release a while back on its official Web site.
What you get here is the Commercial version of Action! recording software.

I have used Fraps, Playclaw and Litecam and have found that Action! does offer better performance, even with Playclaw running through Fast settings with Uncompressed AVI, Action! still performed better.
Action! includes a lot of features and especially performs really well when recording a custom active desktop region for windowed games and emulators using OpenGL. None of the other recording software could either record those or keep a steady framerate on them.

Action! encodes in both AVI and MP4 but also, if you encode with AVI, after the recording it offers you the ability to convert the AVI file to an MP4 file if you wish.

On top of that it can upload your finished recordings directly to Facebook and YouTube removing the hassle of having to access them through a browser to upload.

Another cool feature is that if you are running an Android device, Action! has an App that you can download to use as a remote control to control your Action! recordings. And I use that feature a lot.

Everything else about Action! you need to know they have already explained in the description.

I have to admit, Action! works really good and it is often updated.

Also, the Live Streaming allows Streaming to Twitch, Ustream, etc. So you are also getting a great deal with Action!

If you want a great performing software recorder with a lot of features, live streaming and remote App control, Action! really gives you the bang for your buck.

Absolutely love this software! Had to buy it from Steam tho because the direct purchase from the site didn't work for me at all so I ended up spending about $65. However this software is perfect for YouTubers!

I love this but you have to have a powerful gaming pc to use on certain games. You will run into some problems at one point so be sure you are good at fixing software. It is a cool interface that is pretty easy to use so you can just launch it and record. If you cheack out my youtube channel I use action in most of my videos so check it out! heres the link:https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqKdf8kiWugab_782Owx0cg The software is kind of overpriced because it does not come with a video editor but movie maker works ok if you are on a low budget.
