A very good software to record games or your desktop. But i'm little angry about the advertising on steam. When you buy it , you're supposed to have access to stream. Here on this software you'll have to buy a monthly license to stream something on twitch or justin tv

[NOTE] Action! Live subscription is an optional feature only if you want to stream live videos to Twitch, UStream, etc. You are not obligated to have it and it does not affect using the Action! recording software.

I have been using Action! since it's release a while back on its official Web site.
What you get here is the Commercial version of Action! recording software.

I have used Fraps, Playclaw and Litecam and have found that Action! does offer better performance, even with Playclaw running through Fast settings with Uncompressed AVI, Action! still performed better.
Action! includes a lot of features and especially performs really well when recording a custom active desktop region for windowed games and emulators using OpenGL. None of the other recording software could either record those or keep a steady framerate on them.

Action! encodes in both AVI and MP4 but also, if you encode with AVI, after the recording it offers you the ability to convert the AVI file to an MP4 file if you wish.

On top of that it can upload your finished recordings directly to Facebook and YouTube removing the hassle of having to access them through a browser to upload.

Another cool feature is that if you are running an Android device, Action! has an App that you can download to use as a remote control to control your Action! recordings. And I use that feature a lot.

Everything else about Action! you need to know they have already explained in the description.

I have to admit, Action! works really good and it is often updated.

Also, the Live Streaming subscription to allow Streaming to Twitch, Ustream, etc. is cheaper than the subscription service found in XSplit. So you are also getting a good deal with Action!

If you want a great performing software recorder with a lot of features, live streaming and remote App control, Action! really gives you the bang for your buck.

If you looking for a program that allows you to make let's play videos with facecam overlay, quick and easy, go and try the Action! demo from the Mirillis's website first to see if it does the job. If you like the results it's produces, feel free to grab this software.

The Pros

- Works perfectly with my webcam - Xbox Live Vision Cam for the webcam overlay feature. No more spending time, trying the get the facecam overlay synced with my recording in Sony Vegas. Very convenient feature for me.

- For $30 at sale price, it's pretty cheap recording software compered to other competitors in the market.

- Built in re-rendering feature for converting your recording to mp4 - Very useful feature for people like me who use Sony Vegas for much faster rendering speed.

- You can also record gameplay directly to compressed mp4 format however it's comes at cost of CPU power.

- A adjustable audio settings for game sounds and microphone.

- Watermark support for recording videos - Although I prefer adding it when I'm editing my recordings in Sony Vegas.

- Nice benchmark feature - It's can tell you the average FPS you get while playing a game.

- It can record the just audio part or the desktop - Useful for recording Skype conversation.

The Cons

- Not enough flexibility settings for webcam overlay - I can't put the webcam overlay right onto the corner of the video. PlayClaw 5 allows you to do move the webcam overlay where ever you want but however, the webcam feature it's self is completely broken. So Action! wins in this category and this disadvantage will not heavily effect the rating of this review.

- This program needs a lot of setting adjustments to get Action! to record the video correctly for the first time.

- VLC can't not play the raw recording due to VLC's decoder not supporting the FICV format. Windows Media Player, Zoom Player and Action!'s built in video player plays them fine. You have to use Action!'s built in re-rendering feature to make VLC play your recordings.

- (New Discovery) For some reason I can't put my recordings in proper queue for re-rendering feature. It's seems to re-rendering the first file over & over again. This is simple bug that can be easily fixed.

If you want to see how does webcam overlay work, here's my example of how would the results turn out.

My rating - 8.5/10

Before I start reviewing this, I must say that it probably is best software you ever end up using. I used this software when it even wasn't on Steam and I really like it. If you want good recording software, I strongly recommend this.

~~~ Good things about this software ~~~
¤ Really easy to use. Usen interface is really nicely designed and everything that you need is mainly on one page. There are helpful boxes and forum of this software is really helpful.
¤ It doesn't affect your FPS and if it does, then only a bit.
¤ Small size of video files. If you have good PC, you can record directly to mp4 format and then videos are really small.
¤ Exporting videos doesn't take a lot of time, which is really nice.
¤ Ability to record only system sounds. I use this feature really often.
¤ You can buy streaming "pass" so you can stream directly to Twitch or YouTube. This is one of the best features in my opinion.
¤ Directly upload your videos to YouTube.
~~~ Not so good things about this software ~~~

¤ If I want to record Audiosurf videos, my audio is "choppy". This is probably because my PC isn't very good.

¤ You have to pay for streaming "pass". I hope it becomes free to use.

As you noticed, there are more good things about this software, than bad things. If you want to record your videos without learning what some feature does, buy this. With this program you don't have to worry about that.

I can not recommend this software for the following reasons:

1) It can not broadcast my game. I have to use full screen, or set up a selection window around the Windowed instance of the game. The latter doesn't work, as the controls get permanently attached beneath the selection area, rather than staying in the seperated interface the controls began in. Since my game is the hieght of my screen, it kicks the controls off screen, rendering them inaccessable. There is no work-around short of short-cut keys.

2) There is no preview. It appears that there will be one, but when streaming, there in fact is none.

3) It can not handle overlays with transparencies. It can only use straight-up square images as they are. No Chroma.

4) It can not handle audio intelligently. I have Game Sounds, TeamSpeak, Media-Monkey, and a microphone. Ideally, you could have each on a fader in a mixer with a side-chain compressor dynamically lowering all sounds but TeamSpeak and Mic when they are creating sound above a set threshold. This can't do anything but select an audio source and/or a mic - period.

5) This software actually performed worse than Open Broadcast in my testing. I run a modest game (DC Universe) on a Core i7 3770, 16GB RAM, Creative Labs X-Fi HD Titanium, AMD HD6890 and I have 18Mb d/l and 11Mb u/p speeds from my ISP. Open Broadcast reliably, and repeatably, outperformed this software.

6) This software sells as though it were a "buy this and then use it all you want" title, when in fact it is actually a subscription model. I find the sales presentation of this title deceptive. Period. I had no idea it was subscription based until I had already purchased, downloaded, installed, and run the program for the first time. Once you run it, the Subscription Model is the very first thing it talks about. Keyword = DECEPTIVE.

If there was any semblance of a Help->Contact Us within the program, and they could be reached with this feedback and all of the above issues were resolved, it would be worth the money to buy - not to subscribe - to buy.

As it is - totally wasted my time and money on this and will have to return to OBS just to broadcast properly - which it did for free in the first place.
