Limits are reasonable for light games as a demo mode.

One problem. It needs a way to change the font. As far as I know, it's only possible through script editing which is disabled in this version. Therefore you are stuck with the current one which is 3.7 MB, unnecessarily large. I belive it's because the font contains asian characters as well. On top of that we have 2 of it but deleting one (P Gothic) seems to do no harm.

Wow.

I love it.

The program seems amaizing, and many say the limitations are harsh, but I LOVE IT! The only limitation I noticed so far was that the maximum enemies/weapons/items/armor cannot be changed, but to me that doesn't matter! :)

LOVE THIS PROGRAM!

useful for getting the hang of the software before you buy the full version. The lite version is limited but in the full version you can really get creative!

I forgot this even existed.

Basically, if you've ever thought about getting RPG Maker VX Ace, but don't know if you want to and/or can spend the money on it, try this first. It's very much like the full version, the major differences being (in the lite version):
Less resources
You can't use scripts (game functionality, not words)
You're limited in some of the things you can use
You can't make any money off of the projects you make in it

So, it's nice and free, and it's a good start. I recommend it.

I really recommend getting this before actually buying the real thing. This version may have limitations, but you can still have lots of fun with it. All you really need here is your common sense :P

This was really fun to use and nice to have, but they don't say ANYTHING about there being a limit of twenty maps that you can make. I spent many hours making a good rpg but then suddenly it says I can't make any more maps. That was so frustrating after all the time I put into it. But I suppose if you just want to try the software before officially buying it, I do recommend this software.

It's really fun to try out on a whim, and while the restrictions are harsh they force you to become more creative with it. Once you get in the zone you'll be sucked in for hours trying to turn a bunch of maps into a memorable experience. Hell, even the various spelling mistakes and errors force you into wanting to change the item descriptions. To give a good tip in keeping your game balanced, just keep testing the game over and over until you find yourself having fun with the build you got. Even as a demo this is worth picking up for a few hours. I can say once you buy the full product, it's definitely worth looking into finding Ruby scripting tutorials. This is a tool that just keeps expanding and expanding the more you dive into it, and who knows, maybe the scatological joke game you made from downloading this will eventually unfold into a genuine game development interest.

for people toying with the idea of making a game or just to get familiar with things while deciding if this is right for you it gives you a good point of reference and is very helpful. I recommend this to anyone if they are unsure of buying the full version.

I was looking at some of the free tools on Steam today and I found this version of RPG Maker. Now as I have tried using the full version of one of the RPG Makers when it was on free weekend a little while back, I went in just to see what was different from the full version. The Lite version of the RPG maker software here has alot of what makes the full version a good tool. It is limited in a lot of ways though, you cannot use some of the more detailed tools. Also its worth noting I dont think you can sell any games you make with the Lite version of this tool. RPG Maker VX Ace Lite is free though, so its a good tool to try if you are interested in the full version of the software.

Fantastic taste of what RPG Maker can let you create. It allows you to navigate the software and get used to things before you buy. This is particularly useful for people who have been considering the full software, but want to know more about it and get a view of what the software can do. Please note that this is basically a demo for the full software, so don't be expecting unlimited access to change what you want; that's pretty much what you get when buying RPG Maker VX Ace,

it's fantastic. The lite version isn't terribly limited either, tho if you're planning on making an entire RPG with a lot of characters and things, you'd prolly still need the full version.

The few hours I spent with this free trial version have impressed me and I will definitely be buying the full version in the near future. It's extremely fun and addictive to build your own game world, characters, dungeons, and more. Check it out - it's free. You've got nothing to lose.

This trial version is obviously pretty limited, so I was only able to create a very small and quick game with a little map and a few NPCs and monsters. But it gave me a good feel of how RPG Maker works and functions.

The interface is very well designed and detailed. Spend a couple of hours with it and you will get the hang of it. I was able to create a small game in about 4-5 hours. It's very intuitive and user-friendly, and there's plenty of help menus.

This is an amazing trial, likely the best I have ever experienced. However there are some limitations that you need to know about, before you get too caught up in creating your game. You're limited to twenty maps, the starting amount of characters and monsters, and ten events per map. In short you're limited to creating a rather small game, but its a blast and great fun for hours. For free everyone should try RPG Maker.
