The gameplay and plotting of Haunted Houdini requires a lot of patience and attention, but those who manage to stay on board are rewarded with an intricate ghost mystery thriller worthy of the Midnight Mysteries name.

Long version:
Playing through Haunted Houdini, the fourth entry in the Midnight Mysteries series, I had the feeling that this hidden object game was made for a very specific audience, that is, those who were playing this series at least since Salem Witch Trials. The game just expects you to know how the story is structured or how the mechanics work.

The familiar gameplay hides a different kind of story. The plot almost entirely removed the semi-historical bits to dive into the heart of mysticism, not even trying to build itself around credible elements.
Ironically, this completely fictional plot is about Harry Houdini’s crusade against spiritists, where our task is now to look into the exact details of his death. The investigation jumps around time and space continuously and (to keep the consistency from the previous games) involves another famous writer, Arthur Conan Doyle, a well-known spiritualist, who serves as a counterweight to Houdini’s views.
It is hardly the best-written in the series, but those who like the made-up world of mediums will most likely rank it as their favourite in the series.

Another hidden object adventure game in the Midnight Mysteries series. This time we follow Houdini intertwined with a little bit of Sir Conan Arthur Doyle. You are trying to find out who has killed Houdini and why he died. Another decent hidden object game. Definitely worthwhile of playing. Good graphics and decent mix of puzzle and hidden object scenes.

This is probably my favorite of the Midnight Mysteries games. The resolution is very good, and the puzzles pretty well tied to the Houdini theme. If there's one complaint, that would be not enough Hidden Object puzzles in the story mode. I like this series, and hope they make more.

Good point and click hidden object. Also like the rest of the seires a follow the ghost style, only draw back to this one is how unPoe like Poe acts. It's not too bad though.

This game was a lot longer than I expected. There always seemed to be a new room and the artwork was great. I found the mystery challenging but fun. I liked this game overall

The Midnight Mysteries series contains some of my favorite hidden object games. These are the more typical hybrid type games, that have some adventure elements (puzzles, moving between locations, talking to people) as opposed to the find-objects-only style.

Midnight Mysteries are interesting in that they are based on real historical events, then add some fictional what-ifs to fill in blanks or give alternate explanations for known events. As a result, not only are the fun as a game but they spark some interest in reading about the real events on Wikipedia.

MM4 goes into the death of Harry Houdini and proposes a little mystery, that maybe the accident that sped up his death was actually intentional, and if so, who wanted to kill him.

Another in the series of lunch or break time point and click mysteries on rails. This one had more complex puzzles than the past three, but even the hardest were doable in a couple minutes. The scavenger hunt scenes were good as always. MM4 seemed to have a nagging lag in object activation and in some animations -- it's not enough to be unplayable but it is noticeable for me. Lastly, the story was...ok. It seemed like a stretch at times, but it was good enough for a few bucks. 6/10

Finished my 4th Midnight Mystery and must say I enjoyed this one the best. Very similar to #3 in the amount of hidden picture puzzles, other "logic" puzzles and story. Graphics remain very similar as well. Ran a bit over 4 hours to get through the main story and the bonus chapter. I would guess there is likely another hour or two in the bonus content...possibly a little more if you go for all the achievements. The story was light, but overall fun. I think these mysteries also do a great job of letting you get "Unstuck" if needed with both the in game strategy guide and the numerous hints allowed.

Again, I would recommend if you like this type of game or are looking for something casual. If you did not like the other's in this series, I don't think this one would change your mind.

Essentially a very easy graphic adventure mixed with a hidden object game. I suspect given Houdini's attitude towards mediums that being portrayed as a ghost along with his wife would probably not have sat well with him. On the other hand as a fun story with conspiracies it serves its purpose well enough. There is some nice usage of actual historical records/places and of course some very heavy artistic licence!

If you enjoy hidden object games, the Midnight Mysteries series are the best you'll find on Steam. No, they're not as good as the Mystery Case Files series but they're damn good in their own right. Each game have interesting historically based stories with hidden object goodness, mini games and bonus levels. There are even Steam Achievements. I also recommend Sherlock Homes: Hound of the Baskervilles and Season of Mystery: The Cherry Blossom Murders if you're looking for HOG games with Achievements.
