Here's exactly why this game got low critic scores. The game is from start to finish: mash X to attack. That's it. Every so often you press X-X-X-Y for a combo to knock enemies down to give yourself breathing room. That's all you do in this game. Had it not been a pure hand breaker of a game and nothing more than pressing one button from beginning to end, it would be great because the graphics are awesome. I want to thumbs up it but I can't even lift my thumb now.

5/10 missed opportunity

Great potential that falls on it's face due to overly basic combat system.

The framework here is good. Good artwork, visually interesting levels, mounts, rpg elements, lots of enemies. You have all the elements to make a great beat/slash-em-up. But it falls flat on it's face within an hour or two because the combat is idiotically simple. You essentially only have one combo, XXXY, and you will simply mash this combo for the entire game. It never stops. The whole game is played by almost mindlessly repeating XXXY with the occaisional evade or potion drink. It's initial offering of moderate fun evaporates very very quickly under the heat of repetitive enemies, similar levels, and the awful, boring combat. Double Dragon II for NES is more fun, has more moves, and requires more strategy and it only used two buttons!! A modern beat/slash-em-up should have tons of different moves. There's no reason a character couldn't have dozens of moves, akin to a fighting game. Sorry I'm getting off topic. Bottom line, this game gets boring very very quickly. The combat has no substance.

In the heritage of arcade hack-and-slash games, somewhere between the complexity of Golden Axe and D&D Shadow over Mystara. It has secondary attacks, weapon upgrades, character levels, but don't expect anything beyond that. If you have liked Golden Axe, you will like this one, too. If you are looking for couch-coop, this game supports up to three players.

BTW. people are unfair. This game offers the same as Dust: An Elysian Tail, but everybody is crazy about that one while this one receiving bad reviews.
