A really great beat 'em up with pretty smooth graphics. The gameplay feels good-ok, artwork and music are beautiful.

The only thing that could've been better, is that the equipment as it is mostly 2 or 3 drops (one of each type -mace,axe,etc...-) that fit the character per 2-3 levels, which feels like there aren't many options to choose from. In addition I didn't really understand why you can't have 2 same 1h weapons equiped both at a time.

Combat mechanics are enjoyable and also is the idea of having potions, which can really make a differense.

I totally recommend this game, and even more if you are going to play it in co-op mode.

A short, highly simplistic, without any inspiration game with DLC that was supposed to be included in the main game, meaning that without paying some more for it the game has no end to the story. Quite dissapointing.

Okay so where should I start..
Let's start with the negative stuff cause that's usually what people look at anyway.
The game has a few flaws that I cannot get over:
-Depth Perception Issues. Not only is it often so, that you're being attacked by enemies that you cannot attack because you're not in the same depth, but it's also hard to tell which depth they're in at all, leading to some frustration from time to time. Also some items might sometimes drop in a depth that you cannot even reach.
-It's not hard. Now you might say this is very relative, but for me, these kinds of games is about growing in power, since you level and acquire new gear, so that you may overcome harder challenges. This point is especially important since your experience & gold is saved, even if you die, so you can just keep doing the same thing til' you get past it. Sure, you might die here there once or twice, but we beat every level in the first try and overall found the game to be too easy. Even on the last boss we made it without grinding a single level twice and we didn't even dodge most of his attacks.
-The game is very short. A little over 5 hours of gameplay was enough to beat the entire game with one class, and that's taking into account idling in the menu probably about 30 minutes and restarting it due to bugs like being unable to move or even just crashes.
-Tanky monsters. When I'm saying that I'm not talking about the bosses, the bosses are fine. But this is something I see very often in games. Instead of making the monsters challenging enough, you make them very tanky, so that it'll still take time to take them down. It's not fun, it's just repetitive and tedious.
-Constant knockback. You're constantly being knockbacked, there's really nothing to explain here, you'll spend at least about 30% of your time in combat lying on the ground.

Those are the main points for me that are bad. But here's the good ones.
-Story. It's definitely not that great of a story, but it's somewhat humorous and you want to find out what happens, so I have no complaints, the story did what it was supposed to do, it made me want to play on.
-Gear, I felt the excitement for getting a better weapon/armor. That's at least more than what many other games do.
-Pretty fun multiplayer. Since you're constantly getting knockbacked, mashing buttons, filling up the screen with you power attacks or getting thrown around and ending up in bad positions, it's pretty fun to play co-op in it. As always it's more fun to play with friends.
-Music. The music was not that kind of music that got stuck in your head or something you'll sing/dig along to, but it was decent, and I have no complaints about it either.
-Graphics. The graphic design is nice and overall I enjoyed going through the world, especially paying attention to the background scenery at times.

Overall I must say this is a pretty mediocre game from a game design perspective, but it was decent entertainment for the 5 hours I played it. Do I consider it to be worth 10 euros though? No.

Sacred Citadel trys to pluck every single mechanics from the classic side-scrolling fighters that may have played and loved: Golden Axe, Double Dragon, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and tries to intertwines these mechanics with fun and exciting RPG elements in a simple yet elegant visual style more suitable to modern day. On the side note im not going to blabber your head off for this indie game review and I'll just list some cons n pros.

Simple, Elegant, Stylish Interface and Aesthetic
Solid Pacing to Levels
Overall Challenge
Challenging Boss Fights Minus the DLC
Interesting RPG elements
Great visual effects
Basic Button-Combo System

Online Co-Op Needs Work
Was only able to play with my friends not entirely sure if it was because nobody plays this anymore

Combat may get stale after you learn the stun combo

Would i reccommend the game YES, BUT not at this price..maybe 5$ or so based on how much content was put into it.
IF you like easy achievments % then by all means this is the game for you if you dont mind spending some dinero for the DLC to reach max level.

A nice arcade hack-n-slash.
Feels like a well-done arcade game I would play when I was a kid at the mall.

1) Responsive controls, fluid animations and satisfying hack-n-slash action.

2) Story is supposedly tied to Sacred/Sacred 2 story line, but make no mistake, this is not an RPG.
It's an arcade, side scrolling hack-n-slash, no more, no less.

3) You do have some small improvement choices.
Between levels you can enter a town and purchase new weapons (Better weapons seem to drop in levels than what I find in the stores), new armor and potions to increase your health, rage and powers.

4) You can choose between four different classes that are standard fare for most RPG's.
Warrior, Ranger, Wizard and Shaman are the only choices I believe.
However, there is very lite character development included in the form of distributing two points per increase to one of four attributes, you can also add limited-time crystals which give you higher stats for about 10 minutes.
One unique feature is while in town you can place a bet with an NPC as to how well you will do on your next mission.
For example, I can bet 100 coins that next level I won't die, or will finish the level in record time.

5) Some multi-player/coop features included if you care about such.

1) Nowhere to sell loot.
After a while, I had 20 something swords way below my level and no way to sell them or even get rid of them other than swapping one out for another.
Granted, I have not progressed too far into the game, but it seems like if the feature to sell items was there I would have already found it in town.
If I discover otherwise I'll modify my review.

2) Pointless powers and attribute bonuses.
After leveling my character, I am hard pressed to see any difference in my abilities.
The temp restriction of the crystals and potions make working with them a pain and a money sink that really doesn't help.
Learning how to play skillfully and investing in better gear will go a long way to being better at this game, rather than relying on buffs.

3) By default the game could not go higher than 1600x900 resolution.
This was easily fixed by changing the resolution line in renderconfig.txt in the My Documents/Sacred Citadel folder.
I felt this simple fix should have been caught by the developer, and if not, fixed easily enough through a small patch.
People who are not comfortable modifying game files might feel hesitant to fix this themselves.

4) Very general, bland story without much emotion or drive to make you care about the story or the characters.
I assume if you play the Sacred series there might be some useful canon here, but I don't think it would be much.
But I honestly didn't really know why I was killing the trolls/orcs and so on until I made myself read/listen to the small amount of back-story.

5) Other than choosing your class, there is no character customization as far as appearances go.
You get what you get and you do not alter it as you go.
My level 10 ranger looks just like my level 1 did, only with some better weapons.

I give this a general 6 out of 10.
A touch above-average but not by much.
If it's cheap and you would like a mindless hack/slash game that will hold you for 30 minutes to an hour at a time,
then I say go for it, just don't go expecting a decent story, choices or mind blowing loot.

I don't mind DLC as much as the average PC gamer, and I found this one better than most. Some argue that when DLC feels like it was something stripped out of the original game and repackaged (and sold) the publisher is ripping off the consumer. In some cases yes, but here it feels more like a complement to the main game, in that Jungle Hunt's Act, and the several bonus levels added onto the main game's Acts, require high-level characters. There's also the matter of not having the DLC preventing a 100% of the game's achievements, but that might only perturb a certain subset of gamers.

- Very hard achievements. Some of them are approximately unable for unlocking. Because, if you grow your level without knowing achievements, then you can't unlock some achievements, because, you must be a weak hero for it.

My advise for you:
Do missions for one level, then begin a new level.

Sacred Citadel is a fun litte side-scrolling adventure game brought to you by the same guys that made Dead Island. It has a hgh replayability. The story is that you take on the role as one of four different classes in a mercenary group. Eacgh class has different fighting combos and you unlock new combos as you level up. To add to it you can earn different levels of medals as well as take on various challenges to raise the stakes. You can buy on a DLC which gives you a 5th act which is nice but not really necessary unless you want to complete all achievements (which I do though). If you like classic side-scrolling games you'll probably enjoy this one as well.

This is a good little side scrolling RPG... Graphics are very nice and the game play is really addictive. Would recommend everyone give this a try at least once. Great fun... 5hrs of my weekend gone already!

You walk around and beat up stuff. Occasionally you ride an animal. So I guess it's like a modern-day Golden Axe.

There are some light RPG mechanics to upgrade your loot and abilities, but by no means is it a deep or complex game. You might get bored with it if you try to marathon it all at once, but the levels are short, so if have 10-15 minutes to kill and enjoy old-school beat-em-up style games, playing one or two levels at a time may be a better approach. I played it that way and had a great time.

I really loved the aesthetics of this game, although the gameplay itself leaves much, MUCH to be desired. You can get through most enemies by mashing the main attack (which stunlocks them every time) so you barely need to touch the glitzier heavy attacks and combos-honestly waiting to power them up without getting hit only makes the game slightly harder. If you DO use them though they're pretty fun to watch (I once accidentally turned a group of monsters into chickens. NICE). Since every stage allows you to move up/down you can miss enemies that appear to be right in front of you, which is annoying but thankfully not as often as you'd think. Overall fun for what it is. I've only played the single player campaign and can only imagine that the multiplayer modes would be much more entertaining. The voice acting is excellent, the writing is good enough to carry the barely existent plot and the graphics look great.

Having played a little over an hour I must say I like the game visuals and gameplay concept, however the control scheme is very difficult to get the hang of. I beleive this game just begs for a joystick control scheme. The control scheme results in eary frustation in the game and makes progrssion very difficult as you die quite often.

I really enjoyed this game. Best played with a friend, but fun alone as well. It's not the greatest sidescrolling beat 'em up created, but it's just fun. Wait for a sale and have some fun with a friend.

A very well rounded game all the way through, with a fresh art style to boot. Gameplay is very smooth and combat isn't far from what you would expect from a side scroller. Bright visuals, exploding enemies, challenging bosses and LOTS of baddies to fight. Character stats only have four categories, and there are only three main weapon types aside form each classes speacial wepons. But aside from that I give it a solid 8 out of 10.
