No Game Left Behind: Stardock Brings Update to GalCiv II!

The crew here at Stardock cares a lot about our community and the games that we produce for you.

That's why we're pleased to announce that version 2.20 for Galactic Civilizations II is available for you today!

Even when a title is "finished" and put out to market, there are always little things we find that could use a tweak or a change here and there. We also know what it's like to enjoy an old game so much that you keep going back to it, even when there are newer and "better" versions of it out there.

With help of some awesome community members, the Dev Team has taken all of the suggestions and implemented them into this update. You can find he entire change log (spoiler alert: it's long!) at the bottom of this post.

A few words from our CEO and President, Brad Wardell:"It was awesome being able to work with the fans to integrate years of their own mods and tweaks into the base game. They also gave me a long list of areas where they thought I could improve the AI, which I used to dig into the now 10 year old AI source code base to implement."

We hope you enjoy the update. We have an awesome community here at Stardock and are so very happy that you're a part of it. Have a great holiday season!

Special Thanks

About This Game

Get the complete Galactic Civilizations II saga including the acclaimed PC strategy game of the year Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords, the award winning expansion pack Dark Avatar, and the newest expansion pack Twilight of the Arnor!

Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords: Galactic Civilizations II is the sequel to 2003's hit turn-based strategy game of the same name. The player takes on the role of the leader of a space-faring civilization and must guide its expansion in a hostile galaxy. Gamers must balance their economic, technological, diplomatic, cultural, and military power to forge alliances, fight wars, and ultimately dominate the galaxy. The game is single-player and allows the player to play randomly generated galactic maps or play through a multi-mission campaign that tells the story of an ancient enemy called the Dread Lords.

Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar: The expansion pack for Stardock's award-winning hit strategy game, Galactic Civilizations II: Dread Lords. This expansion pack not only adds the usual content that expansion packs tend to do such as new opponents, new units and a new campaign. It also greatly expands the game play of Galactic Civilizations II. New features include asteroid belts on the map that can be mined for resources, unique planets that require special technologies to colonize, spies to conduct sabotage and destabilization (or used to protect your worlds from the same), new types of diplomatic treaties, an enhanced artificial intelligence engine, and much more!

Galactic Civilizations II: Twilight of the Arnor: The year is 2227 and the fire of war is consuming the galaxy thanks to the manipulations of the evil Dread Lords. But the remaining factions, led by the humans, have a plan to rid the galaxy of the Dread Lords once and for all.

Expand the Galactic Civilizations II universe with Terror Stars, unique technology trees per civilization, Map editors, Custom Scenario makers, campaign editors, new types of ships, new planetary improvements, and much more!

Key features:

  • Beautiful 3D engine brings planets, stars, asteroids and ship battles to life.
  • Create custom 3D ships piece-by-piece with your Shipyard.
  • Play as any of a dozen unique civilizations or create your own.
  • Multiple paths to victory: Military conquest, cultural domination, political alliance, technological supremacy or ascension.
  • Addictive gameplay: Dynamic galaxies ranging from tiny to gigantic.
  • Superior multi-threaded artificial intelligence enables computer players to provide a challenge without having to cheat.

To all of you who are having trouble with the Game's RDM it's eazy to sort out if you follow these eazy steps

1) once you download the game and have installed it and you go to launch the game for the first time it will come up with you CD Key DO NOT close the window

2) Click the Copy to Clipboard button in the window that shows your CD Key

3) Create a Stardock Account using the E-Mail address you use for your Steam Account (You can use any other E-Mail address you own but I find it easier to remember) ((This will also alow you to redownload GC 2 if steam ever stops working))

4) When the Stardock Window opens asking for your User Name and Password just put in the E-Mail address (And Password) you used to create your Stardock Account

5) If for any reason your CD Key isn't on your clipboard reclick the Copy to Clipboard button in the window that shows your CD Key, then once you have done that copy your CD Key from your Clipboard to the space that is asking for the CD Key using the Control-V Shortcut Command

6) Click next, and the game will take about 5 minutes at most to regester the game for that computer (This can be done for other Computers as well)

7) Now that the game is regestered you can play...

At most this process should take about 15 minutes

GalCiv 2 is a love hate relationship for me.

GalCiv 2 is like an old lover. Who visits, stays a couple of hours then disappears again for the next year or two. Which is fine, she's a bomb but gets on my nerves quick.

I can spend hours designing my ships, forming my fleets.
Only to have my neat formations confronted by a never ending, undisciplined stream of enemy ships. Like a laser beam they target one spot on the map, and keep on coming to that one spot. For hours realtime. No flanking, no sneak attacks elsewhere, nothing. Just that endless stream of bots.

If you try it out, make sure to have random events deactivated. Those release what some nutty gamedesigner considers to be fun: overpowered super race waltzing all over the place.
MoO had it as well, precursor motherlovers that suddenly appear and mess it all up with ease. Must be a religious defect in the producer's noggin.

Do I recommend it? Would I recommend drinking alcohol? That would be a no, I myself drink too much.
Hm.
I recommend the old bomb bum. That I can do.

I just logged in after 8-9 months of not playing and the registration worked fine. Just put in the code that steam gives you for every game and boom, it works. IDK why others are having problems but this is still the best space 4x out there (much better then galciv 3).

This is honestly one of the best games I have ever played. It offers an unlimited number of options with the sandbox mode, multiple races and tech trees, as well as custom races. In one month I have put in 168 hours into this game and I'm still going strong. It can be as easy or as difficult as you wish which is why I am addicted to this game. Get IT!!! You won't be sorry.

Great fun, sort of like Civilization set in a Galactic war...they should call it Galactic Civilization...oh right.
Anyway, yes, you should buy this game if you're a fan of turn based strategy and want something different. The enemies are great, the combat system works well. I really enjoyed this game, but you do need to be into this sort of thing to enjoy it.
