This game is okay but it is very laggy because its poorly optimised and my computer can easily run rebirth without any lag so I would recommend rebirth over the first one

The permadeath system combined with the extreme difference in the randomized item giving, makes the game to hard and puts a strain on the fun that the game also gives. I don't mind that you can't save all the time, but this is too much. The extreme randomizing means that many playthroughs are basically lost from the start and time being wasted instead of having fun, not just because given items aren't very good, but you can end up not having any items for the first couple of levels, for example due to items room being locked and no keys being found. Many fun aspects of the game, but the difficulty is to frustrating.

PS: My negative vote is a "light negative", some players will undoubtedly enjoy the game, just make sure you consider yourself one of those player-types before you buy it.

Very fun game - lot's of options and surprises. Uses JoytoKey for controller support - wish it had internal controller support. It would be much easier! But other then that, super enjoyable!

If youre a self-mutalating masochist, who somehow enjoys torturing yourself, with the idea, intent or prospect of playing a game, but instead, secretly or subconsciously, enjoys a game playing you into submission, then this game is for you.

Think Im joking? Really Im not. Its either that or too many kids/people these days dont know what the hell really makes a good game any more. This game has sooo many Pos reviews, it has to be one of the above reasons why this game has so many Pos reviews.

I usualy trust that a game with so many good reviews HAS to, just HAS to have some pretty good stuff to it to merrit such acclaim...but this just a joke.

Random generated in a game can be a good thing. This game is just too much so that skill has 99% nothing to do with it & really just comes down to pure, blind, dumb luck on what items & enemies youll find each & every play through.

I wanted to like this game. It can be fun for a little while...IF & BIG IF, youre lucky enough to get decent pre-gened levels & items. Even then your luck can run out half-way through & youre screwed & die for no good reason with all progress lost & nothing gained.

Im writing this review in pure disgust & anger atm, hence the tone if it. Theres a difference between a game being hard-core & difficult & requiring skill to get better at it...& then there is this game which has NONE of those qualities. Its for those reasons & the fact that so many people seem to enjoy being punished with no real rewards that Im venting as I am. That & a game should not leave you feeling plssed off & cheated after playing it. This game does just that.

Take some time to read some of the other negative reviews for more, less colorful & in-depth info on what Im talking bout. For now, Im done with this game. F*ck this game, Hulk Smash & rage quit.

One of my most played, most loved games ever. So much gameplay for such a little price. This game has endless replayability. This is honestly the best indie game there is.

In the beginning you think that this game is just for fun you think that you need about 20 minutes to end it but this game is unpredictable and after 10 minutes later you crying like a child. You feel a bunch of emotions from despair to anger and that's why everybody (yes, everybody) should buy this game.

In Short -

The Binding of Isaac is a fun game. The concept, the storyline, the effort put in, are all key to what makes this game actually pretty good. However, the game has a big giant problem; performance. It isn't only me that has this problem, it's not that I need a better PC, it's that the game is very poorly optimised. Even with my graphical settings on low, when battling enemies that don't just require one hit (anywhere from one fairly bulky enemy to a boss) will slow the game down, delaying inputs and sometimes even just ignoring them. I cannot play the game when I move up after pressing W literally 10 seconds ago. And so, even with eight hours, the furthest I've gotten is the third floor. You need to get really lucky and just hope that the boss isn't too hard or the items you find are really good, otherwise you physically cannot move on. Now, I know that there are people who don't have this issue, and ways to fix it exist, so I'm still going to recommend the game, but nothing seems to be fixing it for me.

More In Depth -

The Binding of Isaac is a difficult game, no doubt about it. The game gives zero checkpoints, so even if you get to the second floor of the basement, you die and you're back to the first. While this is never made easy in any game, usually you'd be able to simply memorize where to go and what to do. TBoI? Nope. You see, The Binding of Isaac's basement floors are randomized every time. So, your items, enemies, and even boss is completely different every time. This means every time you're going to just have to do your best rather than rely on previous knowledge. Of course, you can learn strategies, how to work with certain items, etc to make the game easier, but for the most part luck is a big aspect of it. This is what sets TBoI aside from other games, and one of the reasons it is such a popular game. Along with it's unique setting, story, music and characters, obviously. And, weirdly enough, despite the difficulty and fustration the game brings, somehow is keeps bringing you back for more. Hell, if it wasn't for the occasional terrible input delay, I probably would've finished the game by now with many more hours. The concept gets you so addicted, because you end up thinking 'Okay, so I failed terribly this time, but maybe next time I'll get some good items and do amazingly. Yeah, just one more round!', but then suddenly it is two hours later and you still haven't gotten anywhere.

PROs and CONs -

PROs -
  • A large array of items, bosses and enemies. You'll never get the same room or even game every time you play due to the matches you'll get.

  • A pretty good soundtrack, it is very atmospheric and sets the mood for the game well.

  • Achievements. 99 of 'em to be exact. That is a lot of gameplay just to 100% the game. Good luck ;3.

  • Steam trading cards. Yeah, a little of an obvious one, but it has trading cards and that is cool.

  • More than one playable character! Not only your model changes, but each character has a special ability (or multiple).

CONs -
  • As mentioned before, terrible optimisation, resulting in really bad input delay. Not something you can put up with, it is completely game-breaking. However, it doesn't always happen.

  • The game runs on flash. Although very similar to the previous statement, the point is that it runs on flash, which makes the game play terribly.

  • There is very little in settings, which is pretty annoying. Not really much to change.

    Finally -

The Binding of Isaac is a fun game, assuming you have no problems with it. Of course, I purposely left out the idea of the remake, Rebirth, as it fixes a lot of problems. So, yeah, I'd recommend The Binding of Isaac. If you have the money, though, maybe pick up Rebirth instead.

The Binding of Isaac is a punishing, deeply disturbing, and addictive rogue-like. Come for the challenge, stay for the mommy issues.

Would play this again as long as no one I loved was looking over my shoulder.
