Remember when the Chinese fought the Russians in the Caribbean? How about when they built entire villages in Texas and defended against Germany?

Historical accuracy is on point.

Do I recommend this game? I do. I really do.

It's like masterpiece of music or artwork. You can make beautiful colonies, great armies and great battles. It's not about accuracy, but about tactic, strategy. You need to get resources as fast as possible, get units and destroy your enemy. Simple, but hard, since different nation has different bonuses. So far I loved France and Portugal. France for unique settlers, which are strong and gather faster than usual settlers. Voltigeurs and Gandarmes are strong together. Advanced formation for Gandarmes recommended. (able to turn on in gameplay options)

Portugal is... just beautiful. I love the language and voices they have. Cassadores are powerful long-range units with cute voice. Organ guns are ideal against infantry. Jinetes (dragoons) are hardcore enemies for cavarly, so use 'em to keep your artillery safe from enemy's horses. There maybe hard choice for pikemen or halbardies, but imo pikemen are way more useful, even if weaker. I work with 45 Cassadores and 5 Heavy Cannons (also +1 for voice) which are powerful formation, but also weak. So I used to work with weaker (low hp) units, but faster and more powerful. Rathauses (or how do you call it) are a bit annoying, since if you want to build beautiful looking colony, 3 rathauses are enough imo.

Even tho price may not be very convincing, spend money on this (or wait for sale, it's always an option) and have fun. Company is fun either.

Super fun game, especially if you play with your friends online. There are many different civilizations to choose from and each one has a unique playstyle which can be strong or weak depending on how you play them and how your enemy plays as well. Very difficult but very fun at the same time. So much strategy and thought goes into every match and you have to make very quick and precise decisions or else you can set yourself behind from the very start and lose extremely easily.

Keep in mind that this game is over a decade old now so the graphics are not "cutting edge" but the game still looks good, and graphics don't really matter in this type of game anyways. With how old the game is, the online functionality can be pretty bad at times. I've had many time with my friends where we struggled to all get into the same lobby together as some of us could connect and others literally could not join no matter what.

There are rumors of an Age of Empires 4 possibly being made, but I wouldn't count on that too much. Despite the online problems, all the game mechanics work very good and the strategy required to succeed is insane. I recommend this to anyone who likes a thought invoking game.

Words can't truly describe the amount of indulgance I've gotten out of this game. There is nothing more gratifying than playing like utter scum - Pressuring your adversaries by rushing/raiding. Neglecting them of resources. I mean you could play honourably - but where is the fun in that?

Pros:
-Endless amount of playability as every match will be different.
-Every civilisation in the game is unique providing an array of different play style.
-Lots of maps.. To despite the only 2, anyone ever plays is great plains and Deccan.
-There are Scenarios meaning there is alternatives to competitive gameplay (if that isn't your thing).
-The game I wouldn't say is necessary difficult (as in the concepts, villagers chopping down trees get you wood), but definitely a difficult game to master. This game rewards you on the amounts practice and hours you put into it.
-The Dlc is a must buy in my opinion, but it's good to play the villania game first. Alot of civilisations/units get nefted in the dlc.

Cons:
-The servers... my god the ♥♥♥♥ing servers.... They go down alot to say the least... and there is nothing more frustrating when you win a game, but you don't get XP, because after you leave the match "lost connection to the servers". Out of Sync is another massive Issue, Mainly happens when loading scenarios. I think I speak for all players when I say "please fix the ♥♥♥♥ing servers".
-Some civilisations aren't balanced in my opinion such as Portugal and Spain are definitely really underpowered in contrast to other high teir civilisation like Ottoman, France and Iroquois etc. And Japan is just broken. way too overpowered in my mind. Basically if you don't rush them in age 2, you lose...
-This isn't the game's fault, but more of the communities, alot of the time, people will be irritating, as they can't stand losing, as you lose xp towards your "rank", So people will turn of their internet, or try to put the servers in out of Sync. Another issue is hackers. And people will hide their settlers around the map, in the hopes of trying to postpone, as the servers seem to go offline all the ♥♥♥♥ing time meaning they won't lose xp, and those who won, won't either.
Another issue is, because of the rank system and hackers, people don't trust people with high win rates, mine is 76%, and I constantly get kicked from games, because people are too scared to play against me, Or that they want one sided, unfair match ups, where I'm put with new players. So it effective becomes a 1 v2.
- The only really action you can do about this, is to block these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s, or shame them on chat browsers. But essentially, people don't get banned. As they've pretty much given up on this game...
-Also, you only get 1 product key meaning you only get 1 account unless you rebuy the game. So, take time when you're coming up with your username, because you can't change it.

Conclusion:
I really do love this game, yes I've encountered problems and players which have really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ me off, but it honestly you get all these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥s in practically all game, nothing you can do about it really. Plus it really doesn't come close to the amount of enjoyment I've gotten out of this game :). One of the best Rts out there in my opinion. For my verdict, I'd give this game 8- 10.

Arguably better than Age of Empires II in some aspects. Big improvements almost everywhere.

Beautiful graphics, smooth gameplay. Wish there are more civilizations though...

Ths game used to hold a special place in my heart as one of the last breaths of a wonderful series, now i cant even recover my password to play online because there is no support, cant even blame this on steam support since its not their services failing. My reccomentation, not worth buying anymore.
