MateEngine 2.5.0-2 – The Finishing Update

Performance Update

  • Fixed an issue that caused slow boot times on the Steam version.

  • Improved startup speed by up to 2×, allowing MateEngine to launch much faster.

  • Added automatic mesh data optimization to reduce GPU usage. Note: User-generated content such as Workshop avatars may still perform worse than MateEngine’s original avatars.

VRMLoader Update

  • Added managed RAM allocation to minimize memory leaks when switching models frequently.

  • Reduced overall RAM usage to improve system stability.

Dance Player Update

  • Added smooth transitions between dances and animation states, including idle.

  • Improved transitions when switching dances for a more natural and fluid experience.
    Note: A brief lag may still occur when switching dances, as audio and animation are loaded and unloaded from mod files to conserve memory.

  • Dance Player is no longer available during the intro animation and becomes active only once the avatar enters the idle state.

Internal Changes

  • Reduced total script usage.

  • Removed redundant code to improve stability and overall performance.

The Last Shores - BlackFrogStudio
  • French language is disabled du to an Unreal 5.6.1 bug. Game is only english for the moment.

  • Add some dialog for the golem on the bay

  • Now player can disabled music in the options ingame

💀 Projectile Cleanup Fixed

Projectiles now clear properly between waves.

No more surprise “death storms” when the shop unpauses — what’s dead stays dead.

🪙 Looting Stability Improved

Fixed inconsistent loot drops and item registration issues.

Coins and drops now appear and collect as intended after each wave.

🩸 Lifesteal & Healing Adjustments

Lifesteal effects now deactivate cleanly once combat ends.

⚔️ Post-Wave Safety Fixes

The player can no longer take damage after clearing a wave.

The arena now transitions smoothly into shop mode with no lingering hazards.

This update focuses on refining combat speed and addressing several key issues reported by players. Many of you requested faster-paced battles, so a 2x battle speed option has been added.

The next major update will focus on unit movement, including drag-select group orders and auto-move options.

First off, a huge thank you for all your support! I’m thrilled to share some great news:

The game has already recouped its development costs (including art assets and personal living expenses) on its launch day.

This development journey has been full of surprises and passion, and it has been incredibly fulfilling for me. As long as it’s financially feasible, I’m fully committed to continuing to polish this game until it becomes the vision I’ve always had for it—only after that will I consider starting a new project.

So far, I’ve received tons of thoughtful optimization suggestions and bug reports from my dedicated players. Thank you all so much for your active involvement!

Now, I’d like to share my preliminary update roadmap (timelines are approximate and subject to change based on my development progress):

Short-Term Updates (Oct 19 – Oct 26)

Improvements

  • Improved auto-targeting logic

  • Better skill description for weapon ultimate

  • Added current Noble Phantasm info to the status page

  • Fixed issue where items near portals were hard to pick up

Bug Fixes

  • Fujiwara no Mokou’s HP may not recover after clearing a stage during her ultimate

  • Some of Mokou’s talents may reduce ultimate HP recovery

  • Gold loss after unlocking the coin purse at Keiki

  • “Heart Excerpt Slash” talent unexpectedly not working

  • Incomplete scroll display in ultrawide screen mode

  • Charge attack sometimes failing to dash


Mid-Term Updates (Oct 27 – Nov 26)

  • Mid-Stage Save
    Players will be able to exit during combat without losing progress.

  • Training Mode Improvements
    Added option to freely test specific talents.

  • Voice Recognition Upgrade
    I plan to replace the current outdated voice recognition system with a newer solution, as it currently causes issues on some Windows setups.


Long-Term Updates (Starting Nov 27)

  • Enriched Level Content
    Adding randomized stages and challenges.

  • Performance Optimization
    I’ve identified key performance bottlenecks, but addressing them will require significant low-level changes and extensive testing.

  • DLC

  1. Language Synchronization Improvements
     Resolved an issue where certain interface texts did not properly reflect the selected language, ensuring a more consistent display.

  2. Rhythm Accuracy Adjustment
     Fixed an issue where edge timing hits on TIK were not properly registered as MISS, resulting in smoother and more precise rhythm feedback.

  3. “Continue Game” Feature Now Available
     The option to resume from your previous progress is now officially available.
     > Note: Returning players must complete the tutorial once before this feature becomes available.
     After completing the tutorial, players can use “Continue Game” to enter the main roguelike mode and enjoy continuous, repeatable playthroughs.
     ⚠️ Please note: Progress lost due to exiting mid-run in roguelike mode is not currently saved by the Continue feature.

  4. Developer’s Apology & Note
     Due to a critical issue with the initial release of the “Continue Game” feature, we had to postpone its rollout. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.
     The issue has now been fully resolved, and the feature has been restored. Thank you for your understanding and patience.
