Last Epoch - Wick93
Hello Travelers,

Welcome to another edition of Eterra Monthly. It’s been an exciting year for Eterra. New enemies, builds, and opportunities. But October saw some old faces return to the world of Last Epoch. Get ready as some new initiatives are taking the lead for some old friends (and foes) to light the way toward a bright future.

Patch Review

The team has been focused on Season 4 and beyond, so they delivered one patch in October to resolve an engine vulnerability in Unity..

Patch 1.3.6

- Patched Unity Engine vulnerability
- This engine upgrade is for Unity Security, and we do not expect any noticeable differences with this engine upgrade. Please continue to use the in-game bug reporter if you happen to encounter any bugs or issues.

Eyes on Eterra

The EHG team has been doing its best to “exterminate the nest” of bugs. Sometimes it’s a simple task, and that’s why you see so many patches and hotfixes at the beginning of a season. But there are still more running around impacting your gaming experience, and we're asking for your help. We’ve opened up this forum post where you can record your own long-standing bug problems. The Community team will be your voice and put these in front of developers to prioritize. With that in mind, we have a forum post here where you can record your own long-standing bug problems.

We’ve also seen a few people who do not want to create a forum account just to report a bug. We get it and completely understand. But please know that having your responses in one place, instead of having to hunt for them elsewhere, will make solving these issues exponentially easier.

In an effort to help us locate any new bugs, we’d like everyone to be aware of some new information on our Support site. You can find a handy How-To guide on submitting bug reports right here. It’s important that bug reports are as detailed as possible to help the team track them down and find their cause, so please give it a read so we can work together to squash them quickly.

Mike's Teasers

The month of October was a bit lighter on teasers, but what we did see sparked lots of discussions amongst Travelers.

First on the teaser list were two skill cards for Fire Aura.

Mike gave us a “cryptic” teaser, which sparked a ton of theories. Feel free to hop down the rabbit hole. We might see you on the other side.

Build Spotlight

You can fire your gardener; he’s not cutting it anymore. It’s time to mow the yard, and Eterra is looking a little overgrown with enemies. This month’s Build Spotlight goes to Wiz52 and their Holy Lawnmower. A Melee Tank Paladin build focusing on Rive, Healing Hands, Smite, Sigils of Hop, and Holy Aura.

Rive is the star of the show with this dual-wielding build that can push 1000 Corruption and more. That means your white Nikes won’t be stained with void ooze anytime soon. Check out the Official Build Guide to see exactly how it works, but here are a few things to get you started.

According to Wiz52, “The core of build is to use Rive in order to proc Healing Hands, which is going to be our main source of damage and ward generation.” That means you only need to focus on one skill. A nice passive change of pace compared to some of the more involved builds we’ve showcased. Using Palarus’s Sacred Light will auto-cast Smite 3 times per second while also buffing fire damage and attack speed.

We already mentioned you’ll want Palarus’s Sacred Light, but you’ll also want Eye of Reen for increased damage output thanks to stacks of Reen’s Ire. Orian’s Sun Seal seems to be the only other must-have for this build, which means there is room for you to lean into a few other items you really love.

So, give this a try and get to mowing down mobs.

Community Fun

Halloween has come and gone but Autumn is still in full swing. Let’s see what’s cooking in the community kitchen!

This Fall season, we are making Sweet Burning Amber. A delicious candied Pumpkin recipe that is sure to be a hit around the house, or at your next party.

And don’t worry, if you don’t want to use sugar, you can use alternatives and still get the same tasty results!

We all remember the phenomenal pumpkin carving made by Vezidroga last year. If you missed it, take a look for yourself. After that, they put their skills to the test and built the Last Epoch Logo that Mike proudly displays on the Dev Streams.

This year, the pumpkins are back and sporting some truly incredible work. Pumpkin carving is so much fun, and some people go pro! But the team is just honored to have a few ghoulish gourds dedicated to their hard work. Check out The Reddit Post to see it all and more.

And to you, Vezidroga, the little things matter, and this is no small achievement. Well done, and as always, thank you for your time and effort.

What's Next?

As we approach the long-awaited Season 4 of Last Epoch, you can bet the team is working hard to build all-new content for you to enjoy. But we can’t do it alone. That’s why EHG has chosen to raise up the CT Program. The CT Program is filled with players who are passionate about Last Epoch and the future of its content. Thanks to these Travelers, Last Epoch Season 4 will be getting the attention it deserves, having been tested and broken by members of the community.

Now, some of you may be wondering how to join the CT program. Testers are selected from the community based on their knowledge and passion for Last Epoch’s success. As it stands, we have more minds than a zombie buffet to help us craft another awesome season for you all.

Coming Soon: All-New Community Corner Streams

On an unrelated note, you may have noticed that Wednesday mornings have been quiet in the Discord. The CM Cozy Stream is going on a bit of a hiatus. We can promise you, the CM team is still around and the streams will be coming back, but we’ve taken some time to put our heads together looking for some new activities to bring you. To give you a Fun-Sized taste of what we’re working on, you’ll soon be able to watch the new Community Corner Stream on Twitch. Enjoy new Challenge Streams, Game Shows, trivia, Dev guest, interactive streams, and so much more!

It’s no small task, and the team is really working hard to make it worth every minute. In the meantime, we encourage everyone to come join our Discord and hang out with the community. It really is a great place to find like-minded gamers and keep up with the finer details of Eterra. If you need a link to get there, look no further! https://discord.gg/lastepoch

Dead Metro - Doc.TOR
In this update, we’ve enhanced environmental details by improving scene props and adding new gameplay elements in certain areas.

Call Horde

There’s now a chance that when opening a car door to search for items, the car alarm will go off — attracting a horde of infected to attack the player.
Be cautious and always have a plan ready, because if that alarm starts blaring, trouble is coming.

Detail

We’ve added more detail to vehicle bodies, enhancing surface textures and visual definition to make them blend more naturally with their surrounding environment.

Sit Down

We’ve added a new system that allows players to interact with chairs and sofas by pressing E to sit.
Currently, this feature only works with player-owned decorative furniture, but we’re planning to expand it so players can also use benches and other seating objects placed around the map.

Repair Limit
Previously, the weapon repair system allowed unlimited repairs, and its importance in gameplay was not significant enough.
As a result, losing a weapon permanently never really happened.
To balance this, we’ve added a repair limit ensuring fair gameplay and making weapon durability a more meaningful part of the experience.

Crafting
Players can now craft repair items such as the Gun Repair Kit and Sharp Stone.
We’ve added this part to support more frequent repairs.

Fix
Fixed HG1911 from police cars being destroyed in a single shot.
Fixed the issue where the equipped item was automatically switched.

Voice of Flowers - KoBeWi

The Metroidvania Fusion Festival is happening on Steam once again. Voice of Flowers has been featured, among over 200 other metroidvania games.

Metroidvania Fusion Festival event page

Since the "Final Demo" is not yet ready, and the current demo is quite outdated, we decided to release a new demo called

Dual Demo

This new demo combines the former 2 demo versions, i.e. Desert Beginnings and Haunted Tundra. You will be simply be able to select them when starting new save file:

The demo will come with a new set of achievements (some new, some returning). Content-wise there isn't much new, but the Haunted Tundra demo includes a couple new rooms. Also the music room is expanded to include music from the Final Demo, so check it out if you want "music spoilers".

There are also several improvements not related specifically to the demo. The most important ones are:

  • Added text speed option.

  • Added progress bar to save point.

  • Revamped Hana's jumping animations.

  • Changed save file format.

  • Fixed jump reliability.

If you already played the demo before, you can check it out again with the updated experience, and to get the new achievements. If you never played the demo, now is better time than ever to try Voice of Flowers and add it to your wishlist.

The demo is live now. As always, it'd be appreciated if you report any encountered problems and leave feedback.

Final Demo

As already mentioned, the so-called Final Demo is still in the works and not ready yet (though Discord users were able to test alpha version). For a small preview of what's to come, here's a WIP design of Hana's home:

Remember that you can join the Discord server for more frequent updates about the game.

Stay tuned for more news and enjoy the Dual Demo!

Dark Hours - Raven

Hey burglars, Raven here 🖤

It’s been one wild week since Dark Hours left Early Access and stepped into 1.0. If you’ve been with us through the ups and downs (the bug hunts, the broken lobbies, the cursed microphones), thank you. Truly.

I wanted to take a moment to share what’s been going on behind the scenes: how the launch went, what went right and wrong (and why), and what we’ve been working on to improve things.

⏳ Before Launch: Building the 1.0

The two months leading up to 1.0 were intense, and honestly, tougher than we expected. There were so many things we’d been wanting to bring into the game for a long time: a reworked gameloop, new heist items, more interactions with monsters and the environment, etc. All of it with the goal of improving the overall experience, adding more fun and depth to what was already there.

In reality, much of that time was spent deep in technical work, especially integrating Epic Online Services. The goal was simple: make Dark Hours ready for crossplay between platforms, and bring custom microphone settings into the game (something many of you had been asking for since Early Access).

But that integration took longer than expected, with more than a few tricky challenges along the way. That extra work inevitably delayed or de-prioritized a few features that were already in the pipeline but not quite ready for release, things like the new gameloop, item lifecycle across missions, custom van interiors with their special items. The PvPvE mode was also affected, limiting its release to a PvP Training mode, while the full PvPvE experience (with seasons, progression, and leaderboards) is planned for a future update.

And as if that wasn’t enough, we also had the bad surprise of a major server outage hitting Dark Hours right on release day and in the days that followed, something I’ll dig into in the next section.

That’s why we’ve spent the past week solving issues and catching up on the polish for features that weren’t fully ready at launch, all to bring the experience closer to what we had in mind from the start.

💥 The Launch That Started With an Amazon Outage

When 1.0 launched, we expected a busy release, but not quite that busy. Within hours, reports started flooding in about voice chat not working, lobbies failing to connect, and crashes during missions.

We immediately knew something was off. As soon as we started receiving reports, we began investigating, and honestly, it wasn’t easy to figure out what was going on. Our first clues pointed to Epic Online Services: lobbies weren’t being created, and voice chat simply refused to work. We stayed in constant contact with Epic’s team, but at first, even they couldn’t pinpoint the cause.

After a few days of testing things on our own, we noticed that some players had trouble connecting directly to the web services behind EOS. That’s when we discovered what had actually happened.

As some of you might already know, on October 21, Amazon EC2 experienced a major 12-hour outage that impacted services all over the world. We thought things had gone back to normal the next day, but for Dark Hours, they hadn’t.

To make it short: one of Amazon’s root certificates had expired, and the version of EOS we were using wasn’t able to renew it automatically. That single issue broke a chain of dependencies and caused the connection problems many of you faced at launch.

Once we identified the exact cause and reported it back to Epic, their engineers were finally able to help us patch it. On October 30, we pushed the fix live, along with all the other gameplay and stability improvements you’ve seen in the latest update.

💡 What Got Better With the Regular Update

While all of this was going on, we didn’t want to just sit still. So, during that same week, the team kept pushing forward: fixing, polishing, and adding a few of the features that didn’t make it in time for launch.

We’re a small team of about ten people, and with both of our devs focused full-time on the EOS situation, the rest of the crew took the week to polish some of the features we’d mentioned earlier: the new item lifecycle across missions, the arrival of custom van interiors, a more refined gameloop — while also tackling a long list of bug fixes based on your reports.

You can find all the details in the dedicated patch notes here:

https://steamcommunity.com/games/2208570/announcements/detail/809085268448510138?snr=2___

By the way, something I didn’t mention in the patchnote: each van now includes a few unique starting items that fit its theme. For example, the Ice Cream van comes stocked with Ice Grenades.

And just for fun, here are a few screenshots of the new van interiors, in case you haven’t seen them yet.

🧠 What We Learned

This launch reminded us of a few important truths:

  • Even carefully tested systems can buckle when they meet the real world.

  • Sometimes, things will break that you couldn’t possibly predict.

  • And most importantly: a small, passionate team can keep pushing forward when the community has their back.

We’re a tiny team, but we're doing our best to deliver the best experience possible. It’s not always perfect, but we’re working hard to fix issues as fast as we can so you can enjoy Dark Hours the way it’s meant to be played.

And this release reminded us why we love this community. Your feedback, videos, and patience have helped us more than you know. Thanks for your unwavering support.

💖Time for Positive Feedback!

I’ve already mentioned how grateful we are for all the feedback you’ve shared, it’s been incredibly helpful in improving the game day after day.

I also want to thank you for all the positive feedback you’ve sent our way, especially about the Mafias, and the new gameplay items. It means a lot to us to see that you’re enjoying them as much as we enjoyed creating them.

📆 What’s Next?

Our immediate focus:

  • Keep monitoring your reports on Discord, the Steam forums, and by email.

  • Gameplay and quality-of-life improvements.

  • New map rotation and monster behavior improvements.

  • Preparing the next round of major updates

From all of us at the studio: thank you again for everything.

Get ready for your next heist night — and if you run into anything odd, drop it on the forums or Discord. We’re watching your reports every day.

Good luck on your heists!

Raven
